This is one of the best statues. Also it's good General/President Grant, is featured so closely to the Capitol Building. The work on this is hard to beat. Him perched tall on his horse is impressive. Also like that lions, and civil war battle statues are next to this. A lot of people get pictures here. That's a good decision, as this is iconic. Even if you're not familiar with the civil war, the design work here is remarkable. I greatly respect Grant, because of his bravery, but also because he was ahead of many on civil rights. What he did for people leaving bondage, is quite remarkable if you dig deep. There's so much misinformation about Grant, and I'll leave that to others to speculate on. By all means add this to your DC trip or visit.

Another presidential memorial. It's not as well known as others. The Ulysses S. Grant Memorial is located in front of the Capitol Building by the steps. It features him on a horse. This doesn't take long to see so it's something to look at while on the way to another site. If you don't know anything about Grant you should know a few basic things about him. In the Civil War he was the general of the Union. This is what made him respected among those into history of wars. It was him who met with General Lee to end the Civil War and reunite the country. This led to him being popular enough among Northerners to become president. He wasn't as good at this job. There was a lot of corruption and he isn't regarded highly by scholars. It's not even the best memorial to him. His tomb in New York is more impressive. Try to visit that as well.

The Grant Memorial is a large monument dedicated in 1922 to honor President Ulysses S. Grant Memorial. It's in between the U.S. Capitol Building and the Capitol Reflecting Pool and often overlooked. Grant is on a large horse intentionally facing the Lincoln Memorial tying Lincoln and Grant to saving the Union. The statue stands at 252 feet long and 44 feet high making it the largest equestrian monument in the USA. It's a great spot to see down the Mall to the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial or a great spot to photograph the U.S. Capitol Building. It's also a great spot to read as not too many people pass through it.

Located in front of the United States Capitol- the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial is a nice place to catch a sunset over the National mall. It's located in between the Capitol and the Capitol's reflecting pool.

This is one of my longtime favorite memorials in DC. No it isn't huge and grand like the Washington or Lincoln Memorials. It does have a lagoon in front of it which pretty much functions as a duck pond. However it is a nice place to sit and take a break if you're walking around DC in the Capitol and Mall areas. There are steps going down from the Civil War soldier statues (and Grant on his horse of course) to the lagoon that you can sit on and enjoy people watching. Or feed the ducks. You have the Capitol building as a backdrop with lots of trees etc and the Mall going down to the Washington Monument. All in all it is a nice little memorial park to hang out in for a while.

Yes, Ariana Grande is a good answer, but I was looking for the Executive Office on 17th St! A long time ago, the love of my life used to say that this building was the highlight of her trips to DC, and I can see why. I remember walking with her in the pouring rain next to it, and taking pictures of her exposing herself in front of it. Times change... But this building never did. It's glorious and resplendent. It reminds me of something in France, but better kept, perhaps. It looks palatial. If the White House is a little underwhelming then this executive office is completely awe-inspiring. It's level with the Capitol as my favourite building in the DC area, and is the easiest 5-star rating I've given since my Cousin Daniel got drunk and showed me the ropes.

I used to read…read moreeverything about the Titanic but I was not aware that this memorial was here, dedicated to the men who sacrificed themselves so the women and children of the Titanic would be saved. Just 10 days after the sinking, a group of women formed a committee to raise money for a memorial. If you've seen the 1997 movie entitled 'Titanic," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet then you can better understand the cost paid by many men to preserve the lives of many women and children on board the vessel that day. The memorial is located at the far end of The Wharf between the marina and U.S. Army post, Fort McNair. A true concrete park, the grounds has benches and when the weather is nice, it is a place for strollers, joggers, dog walkers, and picnic goers. This area also entertains people migrating from the marina and The Wharf. You'll often find locals pass through here as the memorial is adjacent to multiple mid- and high-rise housing units. The area isn't the most pristine, however, it is a great place to hang out during great weather as it is along the waterfront and is slightly shaded by trees. Historical Fact: this isn't the memorial's original location. The statue once stood at the current site of The Kennedy Center in Northwest DC. When The Kennedy Center was constructed in the 60s, the statue was removed and eventually relocated to its current home on the Southwest Waterfront. I believe the memorial is due for another relocation as it doesn't seem fitting in its current spot and is overshadowed by the commercial development on the Southwest Waterfront.
