This experience is based on the emergency service. There is a nurse name Shane that was of great help! He has a country accent and he mentioned being a traveling nurse. There was also a woman named Heather that was super friendly and helpful as well! Great staff. Any emergency hospital will take awhile just know that. The rooms are fairly large. The doctors seemed to know what they are talking about. "Seemed". I feel like if you go to an emergency room, please be very descriptive on how you feel so the doctor can narrow what you have easier. My brother was the one I was there for. This was his second time and he same the first doctor was RUDE and did not seem like he was just in a rush to get him out of there. There is plenty of parking and there is vending machines that take credit card. Just a heads up. Past experience? My father died in this hospital from health reason but the way the doctor announced his death scared me for life. I hated this hospital every since. Staff was terrible! But!!!! Last night I experienced the absolute worst bedside manner I have ever seen from Dr. Matthew Kramer. He was rude and condescending from the moment he entered the room. He completely dismissed and invalidated all of our concerns and all but accused us of lying. He spoke with an extreme level of disrespect and directed more of his attitude toward the people of color in the room. I would recommend that no one with any kind of urgency visit this ER and no one who wishes to be treated with basic decency and respect see Dr. Matthew Kramp. His horrific complete and total lack of beside manner completely derailed any hope we had of finding some answers, let alone timely ones. When we informed the nurse of our experience, she suggested we fill out the survey they'd be mailing us, and when pressed, offered that we could call the manager (but no contact info was provided). I got to the hospital at 2pm and waited til 5pm and still wasn't seen. The security guard came over to me to inform me that I was bumped up again after I already waited for 3 hours. just now New I was transported to this facility due to severe weakness and illness, seeking proper care. Unfortunately, my experience with Nyasha Simoyi, RN/BSN, was deeply troubling. From the moment she arrived in Room #9, she was confrontational and unprofessional. For example, when I requested a blanket, she sarcastically asked if my arms were broken, dismissing my request and demonstrating a lack of compassion. Her demeanor was consistently hostile and unkind, and I felt that her treatment of me was biased and unfair. I strongly deny her accusation that I made any racial slurs toward her--an unfounded and hurtful claim. I come from a diverse family and value respect and inclusivity. Moreover, I observed a stark contrast in her behavior when family members were present, as she suddenly became more attentive and cordial. This inconsistency only reinforced my concerns about the quality of care she provides when patients are most vulnerable. Her actions were belittling and unkind, and I urge management to address her behavior to ensure that no other patients endure such an experience. Providing compassionate, unbiased care is essential, and patients deserve to feel respected and safe during their time at the facility. read more

My mom came in at 3:47 for pain in her arm. It's now 11:10pm and she is still here. BTW, I drove her here. They have 6 Physicians parking spaces not one damn Dr here. They have you come come back take your vitals then put you back in the lobby. Call you back again to take your blood then back on the lobby. Went here for a scheduled surgery that started almost 4 hours late. Had to push my button 1.5hrs after scheduled time to ask what was happening and if the nurse knew when I'd be getting in. She didn't know. I also had to ask that they take their complaints down the hall so I could rest. For hours listened to them complain and strategize how to get what they wanted but no one could talk to me about my surgery delay or check on me. The receptionist left at 1:00pm so I had to ring my button for the nurse to let my partner come back to my area. After the surgery they didn't give me any rest time and were in such a hurry to go home they had 2 nurses dress me so I could leave. Only 1.5 hours after starting the surgery to begin with I was being wheeled out the front door. Which I might note the nurse noted how much pain I'd be in and called to ensure that someone would be home with me so it was not a quick surgery that I should have been out that quickly. Especially considering I was told the procedure itself would take between 1- 1.5 hours, not including post-op rest. The staff were nice when speaking to them, but the unprofessionalism was not acceptable. As the night went on and it was clear they were going to work late their lack of care for patients dwindled. I even heard one nurse ask another who I was after I'd been there for hours. I understood their frustration of working late but that is not the patient's fault. To make matters worse by this time I had fasted for about 17 hours to then have the nurses yelling out about what food they'd be ordering and their favorite snacks. As someone who's been to other hospitals for surgical procedures this was not up to par. I was told I'd be there for about 4 hours but instead was there 7.5 hours, with almost 6 hours of that being laying in the pre-op room just waiting. I didn't receive a feedback survey so I hope they utilize this platform to make the necessary changes for improvement. read more

I went to the hospital last night March 12, 2024, and it was the "worst experience I ever had when I got there it was only 3 people in the waiting room. I sat in the waiting room for over 3 1/2 hours, and then they finally called us to the back to wait another 2 hours, the nurse told me there was only one Doctor there working that was unacceptable and I would never put a foot in that hospital ever. The absolute worst and a waste of time!. 4 hours waiting to be seen for a potential concussion. Urgent Care suggested an ER because they did not have the equipment for a scan. When my husband and son arrived it was not busy. Yet after several hours it started to get busy. So they basically made them wait around until it got busy. Why not see someone for a potential head injury and get him out under 2 hours to release the bed for the next patient? When my husband said we needed to leave and asked for a note saying that my son was at the ER and not seen by a Dr. as an excuse for work missed they declined. I came here on 11/30. My throat was closing from an allergic reaction. They took my vitals within 20 mins and then had me wait 4 hrs before I could be seen by a doctor. Once I was seen by one I was out in 45 mins. If there was an urgent care open I would have gone there. Overall the staff is great, it was extremely frustrating having to wait when you're feeling ill. One star only because I had to in order to leave a review. In short this was the absolute worst experience of my entire life. First I was there almost 5 hours and did not even see a nurse or a Dr. When I walked out to the nurse station they said someone would be there when they could. After waiting for 30 minutes I got dressed to leave and here comes a nurse talking about medication they were going to give me in a IV. First I haven't seen anyone for them to prescribe medication so what and why are you prescrbing medicine. A comment was made about me just being there for drugs. I wasn't there for drugs, pain meds or anything except to see why my face was numb. Then they wanted scans. I am walking out and and a Dr shows up and was basically well now that you have seen me you have to you have to sign a against medical advice. For what I haven't seen anyone to give me advice. I ended up allowing them to do the CT of my head since I was there for numbness of my face lips . They told me it would be posted to my chart in about a half a hour. This was yesterday and still nothing has been added to my chart. I will never go there again. I have contacted the neurology department at JHH. University of MD needs to do better by this community. Laurel regional was a horrible hospital and as a member of the community I had hoped that with University of MD taking over this hospital it would be cleaned up and do better by the patients. Unfortunately it is still a huge disappointment for us as sick patients looking for help. We can not even go to our local hospital for help. I work in the medical field so this is absolutely unacceptable that people are treated this way. And before a comment is posted about increase in ER visits it was not so busy that it would take that long. read more

First off the actual Doctors working here are great. They are knowledgeable and try to listen to your concerns. Some of the nurses working here are vets, others are younger or less experienced. I had some issues with my IV but due to my own body this happens often so no biggie. Although I don't have that issue with more experienced nurses. The main issue with this hospital has nothing to do with the actual staff. The hospital is out-patient only. Meaning if you legitimately need to be/think you need to be hospitalized, do not come here. You will be sent home with a bunch of meds and hopeful wishes for your recovery. I was experiencing acute pain in the ER during my second visit to the ER specifically, in a 3 day span, after being held for one day in the ER then sent upstairs to their observation unit for another 24hrs, before getting kind of better then being sent home. During this second visit I was told that only in the ER will they prescribe real (narcotics) pain killers. Observation won't let you stay longer than 24hrs, as with the ER and they will only prescribe small things like ibuprofen or other lesser painkillers. I had experienced this the first time I was sent there but I was recovering so at the time it didn't matter. The ER doctor at the time, Dr. Allen, who was very nice, then said since I had to be discharged she couldn't directly give me anything to make me drowsy. This is because I asked since I'm not better can they give me something to stabilize me on the way to the next hospital. Ultimately I don't blame Dr. Allen or the other wonderful Doctor I saw Dr. Zaib--I'm so sorry can't remember the rest but they were great and you would know her her name is unique!--its the simple fact that it's a short stay hospital. So you will be handled accordingly to that fact. If you need long term in patient care go somewhere else. If you just need quick short stay this is place Edit: after reading some of the reviews unless you are in obvious excruciating pain you will have to wait some time for basically everything. But! I didn't include this in my original review because I urge you to remember that in the ER there are constantly people coming in and out and other patients to attend to. I wouldn't call their wait times longer than usual ER times but yes there will be a wait. Expect this at basically any ER though. If--god forbid--I need urgent care again in the future I will try an urgent care clinic first. If it's very serious but manageable with the right care like what I have (H. Pylori) I recommend urgent care. If you are bleeding/experiencing a life threatening emergency, then yes the ER. But for this hospital I would more so go for an injury like a fall or a persistent covid like cough. Hope everyone feels better & is doing well :) read more

ER was swiftly taken away without a long long wait time. MRI no one waiting. Not even 20 min registering and quickly taken cared of without any appointment. Plenty of parking to unlike Providence Hospital in DC. One needs to understand ER works . Priority first life threatening injuries/patients then all in pain have to wait till you can't take it anymore. This place is not bad.. how about going to a hospital that ask $100 non-refundable fee before the registration/ doctor to see you and no refund no matter what happens even if you decide to leave due to hours and hours of wait...... read more

My mother was transferred here from another hospital for inpatient acute rehab following a stroke. During her stay the doctors overmedicated her causing her to have three seizures in one weekend. She was so sedated from the medications that she was completely unresponsive and unable to eat. Actual rehab (the purpose of her stay in the first place) was impossible. She wound up having to be transferred to a nursing home for rehabilitation and recovery. Laurel Regional made a bad situation 100x worse. Do NOT go there! read more

This hospital should not be allowed to receive any ratings, or even to remain open, if I could give a zero rating, and still write this review, I would. Apparently, it seems that there are doctors and nurses at this particular ER, who should be inline for some major malpractice lawsuits, starting with my daughter, because of their inabilities to properly diagnose, and treat those who come to this horrible place for emergency care. On 7/11/2022, my daughter came by way of ambulance to them because she was in so much pain, they did perform several test including, an ultrasound and an MRI. They diagnosed her with being pregnant and assumed she was having a miscarriage, but her blood work reflected a high hormone level which indicated, she was still pregnant. The idiotic thing about this, is that despite all the test, they claimed that they could not, I repeat, COULD NOT, locate her pregnancy or her cause of pain, but was fast to give her narcotics in an attempt to ease the pain of a pregnancy that they could not find. Luckily, they called my daughter's doctor's office for authorization and they denied it because what these idiots was telling them, was not making any since, therefore; her doctor recommended her to come to their facility on the next morning of 7/12/2022 and thankfully she did, because she was sent to another emergency room, GBMC where they found the cause of her pain and located her pregnancy/an ectopic pregnancy, administering the same test that was performed at Laurel, the pregnancy that the doctors at this horrible place said they could NOT find. My daughter had to have emergency surgery performed about an hour after she arrived at GBMC and I am thankful to her doctors because my daughter could have died and the staff and doctors were amazing and they actually cared!!!!! I went to the ER here after I fell down a flight of stairs. I couldn't sit or bend my knee without extreme pain. The admittance & triage staff were very helpful and quick. I spent most of my time sitting in a shared room, directly across from the Dr/Nurse's station, watching my eventually-to-be Dr eat a Subway sandwich & talk to nurses. Granted, he did occasionally type on some keys, but he mostly ate a late dinner and bragged about how many more patients he was screening tonight than the other Dr. About 20 minutes later, a nurse finally stopped by my half of the room to ask why I was crying. Excuse me?? Perhaps, it might be because I fell down a flight of stairs and after a cumulative hour of awkward yoga to balance a straight leg & an opposing hip with no medical attention, I hurt. She offered my some ice.... Another 10 minutes later and the Dr came by, quickly surmised that i did infact mess up my knee and put me in a knee immobalizer. That was it. This is a hospital with many problems, most of them stemming from economics. This hospital serves a blue collar/poverty level demographic that has either no health insurance or relies on Medicaid. The low level of income shows up in many areas. This review is based on my personal experience (almost 10 hours for a recent emergency room visit), and reviews by professionals I have been able to find online. Problems I encountered included no mechanical way to summon emergency help, a 45 minute wait to get assistance in removing monitoring so I could use the restroom, and lack of personnel available when two "Code Blue" calls came in. The ER nurses seemed very territorial about not covering for other nurses. Orders to admit me took 2.5 of those hours. Once admitted to the hospital itself, the experience was rather average, with both mediocre and good nursing care. The pharmacy was particularly slow in getting the maintenance prescriptions I take to me, but visits from staff are infrequent enough to allow savvy patients to arrange to have prescriptions brought in by visitors, and taken. They do not have some newer drugs. The pharmacy refused to send a painkiller I have been taking without incident for months because it could theoretically trigger an allergy I have, although a review of the professional literature reveals no one has EVER had this reaction due to this drug. I suspect someone let the database to the thinking for her. I was also not impressed by their resident staff, who took so long to write orders to admit, but also the mis-diagnosed the condition that led to the admission. I would suggest getting a second opinion from a private practice, if possible. If, indeed, the first step of the problem is admitting you have a problem, then there were obvious efforts to address ongoing problems. Within an hour of arrival, I hadn't had any procedures done, but I was handed a survey to fill out. And when I was able to talk to a patient advocate, I was able to get an apology. There is an attempt to warn incoming patients at admittance, via a warning on the triage form, of the penalties for leaving before discharge. I have never seen this sort of disclaimer before, so either it is new or patients leaving before discharge is an ongoing problem for them. There are many resources for finding a good hospital online. In addition to sites like Yelp, professional organizations have online message boards viewable by casual Web surfers. In an emergency, it may not be possible to research alternatives, but if you live near Laurel, and think you might be transported to LRH, perhaps you may want to research an alternative. I wish those who took me here had done so. I hope I am never taken here again. My research for this review reveals there have been ongoing discussions with the state of Maryland over new management of this hospital. Presently, it is being managed by Dimensions Healthcare Systems. I hope the other hospitals they manage in the area are better run than LRH. I hope they can fix their problems before someone is injured or dies. As a side note, Laurel Regional Hospital has been in the news due to two shootings by inmates being treated in the ER. I suspect they are the closest hospital to a large state prison, and may be getting a greater than average number of prisoners. During the 9+ hours I was in the ER, I saw at least two patients come in, accompanied by several officers. Ironically, they were treated and released before I was, but I realize that is more dependent on the problem being treated rather than offender/nonoffender status. Edited to add: although this hospital may or may not do important research (and the previous reviewer should really offer some cites for that), this is a CONSUMER REVIEW SITE and what matters is HOW CONSUMERS ARE TREATED. They could be doing the best research in the world but does that matter if you're waiting hours to be seen, then hours to get test results? read more

I'm sure a few things could have been faster, and the building is not brand new. However, I have yet to encounter an unfriendly staff member. From ER, to pre-op to post-op, they have all gone above and beyond. In ER (at 2am at least) their number 1 priority was getting me pain free. And my doctor even spent a fair amount of time with me. One ER nurse brought me her own cellphone charger when my phone ran out. Another ER nurse printed off directions for mother who was visiting from out of town, and didn't know how to get back to my apartment. Even the lab tech was friendly (and pain free) when drawing additional samples. Overall I would say the people have made my time great here, despite having to come for such undesirable circumstances. On 5/19/12 l was involved in MVA on 95 South the other car was in the Southbound Lane traveling Northbound in the wrong direction ,Struck us head on. We was taken to INOVA after many surgeries and physical therapy myself and my coworker /best friend was discharged to go home .The whole time I was in the hospital I was having a problem breathing ,from the tracheal being placed in my neck at the time of the MVA that caused damage. Nothing was ever done in the hospital (INOVA) fast forward to now .My PCP ALLEN PA. notice my heavy breathing and referred me to Uday. Nanavaty, M.D. who then referred me to Kunda S Biswas,M.D he diagnosed me with tracheal stenosis, he did the surgery by placing a stent in my neck with no complications .All is well . My mom passed away due to the very poor care of Dr. Bavani while at Laurel Regional Hospital. He discharged her by their ambulance across the street in the Rehab facility when she had pneumonia. We reported it and It took 2 weeks for the State to investigate and we haven't heard a thing even after contacting them several times. Wonder if the silence is due to the fact that Laurel Regional Hospital is supported by the State of Maryland. Please think twice about going to this facility. read more

Don't expect a lot in the way of clean floors in the waiting area or ER bathrooms. The decor is 'older' and there's peeling/chipping paint in the rooms but they were clean ( cleaner than the waiting area). Went to the ER today (4/8/17) around 7 a.m. and it was empty. Registration and triage only took 30 minutes total......including an EKG performed in the triage room. I was called to the back about 20-25 minutes later. The RN that took care of me was very nice and even brought me up a breakfast platter from the cafeteria. And get this...she even heated it up! The doctor was nice and friendly. Seeing as he was the only ER doctor there at that time, he got things done quickly. I had several test done and was finished up by 11:45 a.m. One of the shortest visits to an ER I've had in years. We had the misfortune of having several months of health issues that involved going in and out of four different hospitals in the Maryland suburbs of DC. Laurel was by far the best hospital for many reasons. The staff...all of them...we encountered were smart, caring, compassionate, and very good at what they do. The doctors, nurses, and technicians talk to one another. They share information and look for causes of conditions, rather than treating symptoms alone. The staff and doctors in the Critical Care Unit were stellar. They work to heal a patient, not just stabilize and transfer the person. Patients are treated as human beings with dignity and deserving of respect. I've read that the University of Maryland Medical System has bought this hospital and is going to redirect it toward primarily an outpatient facility. I hope the wonderful people we encountered at Laurel come through the transition well and the hospital maintains it's high standards of care and compassion. read more

My parents live in the area and have had 2 horrendous visits within the past 2 years. Several of their regular doctors have asked that they never go there again. First, mom fell and hit her forehead onto an acrylic vase, shattering it and causing a gash requiring many stitches. The lump on her head was still very large after several days, so her regular doctor reopened it only to find the Laurel team had left a large 2in by 1in piece of acrylic in the wound! Most recently, she had GI issues where they kept her overnight to run tests. They released her after seeing no issues on her CT scans. Two days later, she was back in the hospital to find out they completely missed the diverticulitis that was causing her such pain, nausea and diarrhea. She was also released without pertinent discharge instructions. The staff was fine- kind and polite. The lack of attention to important medical issues, however, is frightening. read more

Then waited around for 2 hours with no response thank God for the nurse staff because they acted like the doctors. As the 5th hour came we walked out. My 82 year old father took my 79 year old mother to the ER at Laurel hospital at 3pm for a chronic illness tat my mother has been struggling with since 2010 so we have a lot of history and understanding of the needed neuro-psychiatric care and her GI issues for the medical staff . 8.5 hours later the doctor still had not made a decision on whether to admit my mother.
