Yum Umi sushi - darling harbour
Tiarne H.

YUM! Umi Sushi Great selection and the service was very welcoming. Perfect for a catch up lunch with a friend or contact - cheap prices, high quality food. The whole experience is fun. The creative layout, food decoration make for a great topic for conversation and the food tastes as good as it looks. Soft shell crab, sashimi tasting plate, Prawn & Crab Meat Roll Volcano & Teriyaki Aburi Salmon, Volcano Prawns - AMAZING. I will be back.

Udon yum! I'm not totally sold on this being an amazing Japanese eatery. I've tried their Udon and the Chicken terriyaki. I also shared my edamame with passing people who stopped to ask what this dish was. Yes, I fed the locals. The food was good, just not awe inspiring. I guess I was hoping it would be the latter. Still. I've been to worse places and they do have a sushi train here too if you feel like sushi.

Really liked this sushi restaurant. First, the location is really convenient in a nice area with a lot of other restaurants nearby. The furnitures give a small touch of ancient, like a remember from my wanderlust in Kyoto, Japan. Then, let's talk about the food: really good, lot of choice. You can pick any plates you want ranging from 2.5 to 7,7$ if I remember well. Moreover, the Japanese sushi makers could prepare anything you want. Service is really fast and done with a huge smile! By eating 18 sushi plates for two and taking one glass of wine each, we payed 90$ which I found was really a good price! We will definitely come back!

Was very excited to try this place out because I walked by it numerous times. It was always filled with people and the sushi train was very attractive. However when I finally got the chance to try it, it turns out to be just an average sushi restaurant. Food: 2.5 - Sushi was pretty disappointing. It looked great, but the flavors just didn't mesh together well. Every ingredient within it seemed to be on its own and not meant to be eaten together with the others. - Portions were pretty small - Udon had great flavor! But the beef wasn't very tender/fresh. Drinks: 4 - Draft beer was great. Really refreshing and flavorful - Ice green tea latte was so worth! Less than $5 for a huge glass :) Service: 4 - Standard service. Accidentally spilled soy sauce and the waiter was patient and helped us wipe the table. Atmosphere: 4 - Great interior design. Loved the outdoor seatings next to the harbor. Sushi train (conveyer belt) is always a plus Misc: 3 - Too expensive for the quality of its food, but the location is great :)

Typical Japanese sushi train type experience, food is pretty good. However, the best time to go is Friday afternoon drinks whereby there have some $5 beer and wine happy hour specials....and with a sunny afternoon...great locale!

The unfiltered saki is awesome!

I've had this place bookmarked for years. Maybe I'll try their dessert tasting menu someday, but…read morejust the regular desserts I tried were nothing spectacular. And on a late weekday afternoon, they were sold out of the drinks that caught my eye. The desserts are fine, but some of the prices are so expensive that I don't feel like I'd miss out on much if I didn't get them. The average price seemed to be $28 for a dessert smaller than the size of my palm. While some of the flavors were more unique, based on the ones I tried, they weren't actually good combinations or just blended together so that you might as well be eating one flavor.

I had hope to visit Koi during my last visit to Sydney, but I ran out of time. But for my most…read morerecent visit, it happened to be beside my hotel. After eating dinner somewhere else, my friend and I stopped at Koi for dessert. We go there only 30 min before close, so there weren't a lot of desserts left. We tried two of them - a pandan cake and a mango dessert. They were both beautiful looking, but don't recall being blown away by the taste. And it was very expensive. I thought to myself that it was not what I hoped. But I'll give the benefit of the doubt that maybe at the end of the night all they have the less popular desserts left. Next time I'm there, I'll give it another shot.

I'm a foodie, NOT a shopper!…read more After walking around Sydney's CBD, we visited the famous Queen Victoria Building, a late 19th-century Romanesque Revival marketplace that is now a shopping mall filled with high-end boutiques and eateries. We crossed George Street to The Strand, where we were in search of the world-famous patisserie, Black Star Pastry. Although I don't use IG or FB, I heard about Black Star Pastry's Strawberry Watermelon Cake while reading an old New York Times article about this Australian patisserie, which declared this signature cake and most-requested cake as "The World's Most Instagrammed Cake." So, I made Black Star Pastry a destination during our pre-cruise stay in Sydney. We followed the directions posted on The Strand's directory to Black Star Pastry and ogled the artistically and attractively decorated cakes while zeroing in on the Strawberry Watermelon cake slices lined up next to the Raspberry Lychee and Mango Yuzu cake slices. Honestly, all of the cake slices looked lusciously delicious, but our taste buds were craving a refreshing slice of Strawberry Watermelon. We selected the cake slice, and the amicable countergirl neatly packaged it and asked if we needed eating utensils. Of course, we needed and wanted eating utensils as we dreamed about digging into the cake at their dining counter right away. My husband rushed me to finish taking photos, and he jabbed his fork into the tender yet juicy cake. Before I knew it, he unassembled the cake slice to reveal a fresh-cut slice of juicy, ripe, and sweet watermelon, light rose-scented cream, tender cake, and was topped with fragrant rose petals and fresh strawberries. He claimed it would be easier to eat because the cake slice was about 3" high and looked like it would've toppled when pierced from top to bottom. Yeah, it was HIS "thing" about eating this cake, I decided to take a bit of the top layer, then a small slice of the watermelon bottom layer together. It truly was refreshing, light, and not overly sugary. The lightness and flavors of this cake seemed like it might have been low-cal, but even if it wasn't, who cares when you're on vacation?!

Came here to try the most instagrammed cake, the watermelon cake. I thought it was good. It wasn't…read moreoverly sweet and not dry. I would recommend to try a small slice. Lines aren't too bad and it goe by quick!
