On our way to Nacogdoches for a college softball game, we did a rapid U-Turn to head to the off the road BBQ, Farmers Market with whirlybirds and bird houses. Beautifully crafted outdoor garden, yard and patio accessories greet you just on the edge of the large parking lot. Inside the Market you find fresh local vegetables, fruit and excellent crafted syrup's, molasses, chocolate and a refresher of blackberry tea. The restaurant was extremely pleasing to the eye aesthetically. Color coordination was "SPOT" on. Every individual I encountered was pleasant and eager to please whatever we desired, to their ability. I had the pleasure to meet the owners. They were extremely sincere and pleasant to talk with. After talking a bit of culinary talk, I got a personal tour of the smoke house and the BBQ VIP facility. Oh my.... they have got it going. Red Oak is used (an East Texas predominant wood - but provides and excellent heat and great wood flavor to beef). Here's the kicker....... we had zero time to be able to sit and try the BBQ. so we did not get to enjoy what I assume and expect to excellent BBQ. My 5 STAR rating is based on presentation of the facility, the service and fantastic attitudes we received as well as the excellent Smoke House set-up for BBQ VIP's. I can't wait to make my way back down to Nacogdoches from the DFW Metroplex to try Uncle Doug's BBQ. I will be sure to make time for it on the next trip 05/19/2019 I left my heart at Uncle Doug's BBQ. Finally was able to stop in again and was treated wholeheartedly to the downright best BBQ I've ever had. As most know, I LOVE fantastic great Texas BBQ. It irks me to stop in to a place that is supposed to have fantastic bbq and it turns out to be either dry, dull in flavor, over cooked, over smoked, and or maybe just one good item out of several. Up to this point The Salt Lick has been my fave and go to bbq. My only disappointment at Salt Lick is there is a slight Vinegar flavor which indicates South and North Carolina BBQ. At Uncle Doug's you are going to experience real, authentic Texas BBQ. Slow Smoked on East Texas Hardwood. Flavorful but not salty, peppery, or hot. Flavorful enough in which one does not need BBQ Sauce. Now that's good bbq when no sauce is needed. Ribs: moist, meaty, smoky, flavorful. You sink your teeth in and pull off a nice mouth sized bite of meat with little effort. Perfect. Fall off the bone ribs are over cooked. These were deliciously perfect. Brisket: moist, smoky, excellent marbling, and plenty of it. Sausage: here is where I was impressed. Most places just use packaged from the store sausage. Not sure where Doug gets his but upon first bite my mouth jumped with excitement of the smoky sweet flavor that accompanied every down bite of my teeth. Yum. I love a good sausage. Pulled Pork Sandwich: another "Spot" on experience. Not dry. Not blah. Full of meat. Smoked Pork Loin: all I can say is my wife ate all of it and I didn't get any. Must have been fantastic. ***When it comes to East Texas Hospitality, it just doesn't get any better than Uncle Doug and his lovely wife. These two know how to make you feel welcomed and highly appreciated. They sincerely are thankful for your patronage. In all of my reviews to date, I have never been able to say with 100% certainty that this or that restaurant is my absolute favorite place to eat, unwind and just enjoy to socialize at any one particular place until now. It's a great place to eat, the ribs will basically melt in your mouth. The baked beans and potato salad were great too. There is an indoor farmers market along with a fudge shop. The farmers market prices were reasonable, but they are proud of there fudge. It's way too expensive. I would highly recommend this place, I will return. read more

I was in Nacogdoches, Tx this weekend, and my daughter and son in law picked up food from Uncle Doug's! Two had a brisket sandwich and the other pulled pork! Absolutely the best! On the way home to Waco, I stopped and bought a dollar ice chest, just to pack dinner for the family at home! Oh my! They went over and beyond! They perfectly packed an entire dinner with sides and heavenly homemade buns! AND iced it all down for me in the chest! We just opened up our meal in Waco to heat up, and I could not believe the abundance of what they packed! It was absolutely delicious! I got a sample of several meats and sides. EVERYTHING was superb! I've never tasted potato salad that good! This will be an absolute STOP for us going and coming from Nac in the future! Well done Uncle Doug's! Thank you! So the first time we experienced uncle Doug's was during their fried chicken pop up. The food was amazing! Today I popped in to the farmers market for some fresh produce as well as some eggs. Good selection of produce (it's gonna be a game changer now knowing if I forget something at the grocery store in town I always can just pop into uncle Doug's for fresh produce so I don't have to drive a half hour into town). I even purchased some delish pumpkin butter made in house! But what I appreciate the most...is the name of the farm. "Dougie Fresh Farms". Now I may work for a western boot store. But I have EXCEPTIONAL taste in 80s/90s hip hop. And I LOVE Doug E Fresh. When I saw the name of the farm I texted all my old homeboys in Dallas and show them the name of the farm! Today was our second visit to Uncle Doug's BBQ. The first visit was on their initial day of business and the food was GREAT!! I had a brisket and sausage plate with sides of beans and potato salad. The brisket was delicious, nice bark, delightfully moist, tender and flavorful. The potato salad was good but the beans were "to die for". My wife had a half chicken which was outstanding- juicy and well cooked with outstanding flavor. Today I had the brisket/sausage plate and it was again excellent. Ditto the beans. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich which she loved. Tender juicy delicious pork. The BBQ sauce is outstanding. She really enjoyed the meal as did I. The restaurant is brand spanking new incorporating a takeout food and grocery area with dressings, jellies, sauces and cobblers based on their family recipes. CHOCOLATE- yes they have an in house Chocolatier. Cocoa beans come in and delicious chocolates come out. I am in love with this chocolate. If you like tasty dark chocolate then you are in for a delicious treat. Who would think that Douglass Texas would have local handmade chocolate as good as any european country. This is one of the coolest new stops in this area. We were visiting for the weekend, and dropped by for lunch. This was such a beautiful stop, and the BBQ here was FANTASTIC. The brisket was melt-in-the-mouth tender, and the homemade rolls, fresh from the oven, were divine. The thing that really made this place great was the co-owner/co-founder. Victor was extremely friendly and personable, and the dedication and passion he has for Uncle Doug's really shows. This place is worth the drive ! The restaurant is very clean , comfortable and has a good atmosphere. The wait staff are all very friendly and attentive. Now to the food . I had the brisket and ribs and they are the best I have had in the Nacogdoches/Lufkin area . The brisket was perfectly smoked , tender and juicy . The ribs had a really good rub and were tender , perfectly smoked and not dried out . For sides I had the beans , broccoli slaw , and roasted Brussel sprouts and they were all very good ! They had free homemade ice cream and it was excellent. If that's not enough they have a market with lots of home made items including some very good dark chocolate made in house .
