    Cheeseburger and Fries

Who knew that Alto,Tx had this diamond in the rough restaurant. This burger and fries was so good! Fresh ground beef that was seasoned perfectly. I'm already thinking about when I can come through Alto again to get another! They also have a big selection of salsa, pickles, okra, jams, butters, and more :) Just look for the smoking gun and turn on in. You won't be disappointed!

Good food and the barbecue is outstanding for a place out in the country between Wells and Alto on Hwy 69!

The brisket baked tater was fantastic, because the brisket was smoked and seasoned perfectly.

We loved our meal at Mimsy's! The baked potato was huge and loaded--a really great value. The red beans did have meat cooked in them in case anyone is avoiding meat. The service was super friendly. You can order at the counter or through a qr code at the table. What a great spot to eat in Crockett. We'll be back!

Well, RIP Mimsy's. This place has shot themselves in the foot…read more Used to be great, but now has become "Pecan & Sage Supper Club ETX" (horrible name, but I digress). They really shouldn't be allowed to keep all their old reviews from the Mimsy's era, because it's a completely different experience now. The current rating on yelp is for the old establishment, not this new thing. I used to go here regularly and get some of the best BBQ in the area, but now they want to transition to some kind of hybrid counter-service-lunch + fine-dining-dinner place. We couldn't order dinner entrees during lunch, so I thought maybe I could get away with an appetizer and a side as a meal. The crawfish tails were $9 and I got less than 2 ounces of crawfish, and they weren't anything special. Maybe 20 total pieces. I should have taken a photo. I honestly couldn't believe it. If I got this for a table of 4, everyone would get about one bite each. The three of us spent over 70 dollars (FOR LUNCH, no alcohol) and two of us went home hungry. The only person who got a full meal was the person who spent 30 dollars on an average sized sandwich. No more brisket, no more ribs, no more cheesecake (among countless other things). All removed from the menu. Reuben sandwich - $25 for a lunch menu sandwich. Ribeye for $60? I'll just make my own and not feel ripped off. Probably never going back. Just pissed off afterwards, which is something I never thought I'd feel going to this place.

This place is always busy, mostly with take-out orders and when they are out of food, they simply close. It's best to order ahead, especially if you want something on a a Sunday!

Full disclosure. This is not some fancy bbq place. This is a humble building with a sweet couple…read morethat run it. Just so you know what to expect. We stopped by on a whim based on a Facebook post. It's a very small older dusty building with limited seating and no restroom. They do not take cards. You have to pay cash or Zelle. They will sell out and close without notice. But we lucked out. We didn't know that most people call ahead and preferably a day or two ahead. We did have to wait about 45 minutes for our food. We were glad they hadn't already sold out. But it was quite the foodventure. Based on the aforementioned Facebook post, I ordered the Mr Big loaded baked potato. It has ham and brisket, cheese, sour cream, and bbq sauce. It came in an open faced to go container because there was no way it was closing. I had to dig down through several inches of meat just to reach the actual potato. I had to give some to my husband just to be able to close it to take home. Then I had to ask for a piece of tape. Well worth the price. My husband got the strawberry lemonade. Too sweet for me. He liked it. But it is served in a large mason jar which you get to keep. It had real strawberries in it. She even came and refilled it when it was about half gone. He got the mix plate. You can choose one or two or three meats. He got brisket and hot links. Large portions of meat. You don't get to choose the sides. You get potato salad and baked beans. He was very pleased with the amount of food. If you come expecting too much as far as atmosphere you might be disappointed. But if you want great food and a lot of it then call them up and bring your cash.
