Veteran's Day, I'm playing Taps in 45 minutes at a nearby cemetery. Very special veteran, built air strips on embattled Pacific Islands during World War II as a SeeBee, lived a century and passed away last year. I grabbed my cornet WITHOUT valve oil in my case. I HAVE to apply valve oil before I play, it's a thing. I only find out I have no valve oil when I arrive, but thanks to YELP I find a music store that's only 12 minutes away. Thank you YELP. As I'm hopping out of the car and walking to the front entrance, I open up YELP to check in and notice it doesn't open for 10 minutes. A second horrified surprise, but as I'm standing in front of the locked door the owner walked up on the other side and opened up early for me. Quickly, well sort of quickly, sold me a bottle of Al Cass valve oil (it's one of the better brands) for a reasonable price and I was able to properly honor a special vet at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. read more

I absolutely love Uncle Jon's. Jon Sr. I believe is the man that has worked on a few on my guitars. His work is exceptional and price friendly! He has fixed my Fender Strat when I thought it was beyond repair, he tuned up my PRS, and he completely hooked up my Ollandac. I had the Ollandoc custom made and when it arrived it needed lots of work. He adjusted the nut, straighten the neck, installed new Duncan 59 pickups on both the neck and bridge. The pick ups were a bit tricky because they are the 4 conductor model that needed to be wired up for straight humbucker, split coil, and parallel switching. UJM is the only place I trust to touch my babies and she sounds amazing now! The work is done fast, correct, cost effective, and you can tell they take pride in their work. Love the fact that they don't try to up sell you and they give great advise. Give the small guys a chance and stay away from big shop retailers that only care about $$$$. Brought a 4/4 violin there to have a new bridge set-up on it, new strings and basically have it playable after I did some minor repairs, stained and lacquered it. Jon was very attentive , professional and confidently assured me that the work could be performed as needed. I believe that Jon Sr. did the work. Picked it up today and I was very pleased with the finished product. Their prices were reasonable for the work done. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to hear a quick get rich fast sales pitch, go there and give them a try. They seem to really care about what the customer's needs are. read more

I've bought seven guitars, a bass, a uke, a banjo, and a mandolin here, along with amps, a keyboard, and lots of accessories. Friendly, family joint, and the whole family is musical. They have an amazing annual blowout in the alley behind the shop, with local bands, including a couple of the bands the family has formed. Between the various members of the family, I think they play 20 different instruments. I've also had them fix up three busted guitars of mine. After I gave them my original Kay for repair, a crummy little acoustic thing that was my first guitar from 1975 (the neck was coming out), Jon Sr. fixed it up, and it's like having a whole new guitar, and it's now my new/old favorite. A great local Ma and Pa guitar shop. Have been going here for years - since they opened in 2004. Took lessons, bought a couple guitars. Jon Sr. Is a great luthier and has worked on a dozen of my guitars. Very affordable rates too. Separately Jon Jr. and Jon Sr. are musicians themselves and belong to a great Swing band called the Flat Cats. A Chicagoland favorite. They're also very involved with the City of Westmont, run Food Pantry charity events. They're terrific people read more

Very friendly staff and always showed a willingness to help me with my guitar issues. They offered reasonable prices, and didn't try to get any extra services out of me for my money. I needed some Speakon adapters and cables for a show we were doing that night. I called guitar center and the guy was pretty rude when I asked how much the cables cost. He replied they are so many different types you will need to come in and speak to our audio pro. I called Uncle Jon's and they were very polite and accommodating. They checked to see if they had what I needed and they did. They had it waiting on the counter for me when I got there. They will definitely get my business in the future. read more

They halve terrible customer service with zero respect for their customers. This obnoxious and inconsiderate attitude is not permissible. Additionally, they were extremely arrogant and continuously interrupted every word I said. They seemed very apathetic and were blunt in all of their responses. I would never return there. read more

I have purchased instruments, string, books, etc from UJM, and each and every time, it has been a great experience. Whenever I need something, I can just send an e-mail. I get my replies almost immediately, and if they don't have it, they order it, and I usually have it within a week. They have a ukulele circle as well, and it is always a lot of fun.
