Let's get right to the chorus, er, review... I took a day drive to Clermont to do some business. At noon, feeling that familiar grumbling in my tum it was time to find a cure. Under the iconic Citrus Tower is where I found Uncle Kenny's! This place IS the real deal! If that wonderful oaky smoky smell doesn't lure you in, then the succulent sweetness on the breeze will. I LOVE it! I was greeted and treated to a seat by Pam. She immediately took my drink order and made a few recommendations. As soon as she said "Ri" I was sure of what I wanted, but I listened happily as the rest of her words were uttered. "Ribs", she said. I wholeheartedly agreed! Don't you just love that mouthwatering anticipation feeling as you sit patiently, waiting for your first glimpse of YOUR plateful of plenty? OH! how rewarding it was, as Pam slid MY ration of ribs into place! Opting for just a half slab, sizzling before me were 3 succulent looking mighty fine pieces of meat. My fingers trembled slightly as my first bite was imminent. Drawing closer, a bouquet of fire and smoke curly swirled about me as I inhaled the scents.. One word. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I gazed in wide wonder at the joy I had found! (Thanks Mr. Thorogood! AND now Uncle Kenny!) I 'thorough'ly enjoyed each and every bite. Indeed. After savoring the sauces and succulence of my menu selection, I was treated to a 'tour' of the place. That's when I learned Uncle Kenny's has a downstairs area! Downstairs! In Florida. It was there, amongst the additional seating and back stage kitchen areas that I met the proud namesake of this quintessential 'Q' joint. I met Uncle Kenny himself! We talked like we'd known each other for years. I learned some of his backstory. His years of competition BBQ and some of his inspirations. Uncle Kenny asked IF I'd tried the 'Dirty Rib'? I had not. He went on to explain that it is kind of an off menu item but it is listed in a few places. It's a deep fried rib with a special sauce applied generously. Uncle Kenny took me to the front by the kitchen and got me a sample Dirty Rib to try. How cool is that? Let me tell you what! Deep Fried Rib? That process locks in a lot of moisture giving this Dirty Rib a great texture and an easy bite! It was a magical thing. Back to the song. This review is strictly for their Saint Louis style pizza but I'm hoping to try there barbecue soon. Currently they take Over the phone orders or you can go In an order at the counter so we called ahead to make sure they were open since we live 45 minutes away and ordered when we got there. Everyone that was working was extremely friendly. The sweet lady that took my order was Listened intently to make sure she got everything I wanted. She loved the fact that we enjoy their pizza so much and that it reminds us of home. For those that are unfamiliar with Saint Louis style pizza you either love it or you dont. It's a thin super thin crust that some would describe as cracker like. So if you are a hand tossed or pan person this is not the pizza for you. But it never hurts to try something new. We decided to wait in the car and when our order was ready they brought it out to us. Everything was hot and fresh. The only snafu was we didn't get utensils for our salads so we had to wait until we got home for those. Can't wait to go back and try their bbq...maybe after another pizza. read more

Found another BBQ place close to us worth mentioning in our Florida stay, Uncle Kenny's BBQ right here in Clermont which boasts good solid bbq with all the fixings and St. Louis style pizza. This place is not fancy but typical decor of a small town bbq restaurant. When your looking for good bbq you don't need candlelight and linens for sure! We decided to try their pizza first which was ok, nothing special, but to be fair we are from New York so enough said! We ordered the special of the day of the burnt ends with sides of fried okra and side salad with Texas toast stop. We also had the Pitmaster's combo plate of ribs and chopped brisket with mac and cheese and homemade chips. The meats were good and tender and we had four choices of their own sauce to dip in, original, mustard, vinegar and my favorite spicy! I loved the fried okra and homemade chips but the mac and cheese was lacking flavor. Next time I want to try the pretzel bites, fried pickle spears and toasted raviolis! We ended with their sweet chocolate overload cake but will be trying their caramel cheesecake and ooey gooey butter cake next trip! They have been here over 10 years and have a whole wall of awards for their BBQ and you can even purchase their rubs and sauces to bring home to make your own BBQ! read more

We had been here a couple of years ago based on Yelp reviews but before I was an active contributor to the #YES. It left an impression so given we were in the area, I knew we had to come back. For our late afternoon lunch, we started with the pulled pork eggrolls. The order comes with two but they are the size of mini burritos so definitely enough to share with four people. Loaded with flavorful pulled pork and just the right amount of slaw for that ideal balance. As much as I wanted to get some chicken or ribs, I knew my late lunch was going to collide with my early dinner so I went with a brisket sandwich basket. I like that you have the option between sliced and chopped - which is my preference. I also asked for the sandwich on toast vs. bun and they are more than eager to accommodate. This sandwich along with my side of fried okra was a perfect meal to fill my bbq cravings. My meal today was 4 stars but I know if I had ribs or chicken, that 5th star would have been easy to add. We ordered the pick two appetizer and chose the wings and the fried pickle spears.The wings were smoked and then fried and offered with assorted flavors of sauces. The pickle spears were cooked to perfection and hot and crispy. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken breasts, so I settled for the leg/thigh option. Although I prefer the white meat, the chicken was cooked well and very flavorful! It was fall off the bone tender and extra juicy. For side dishes I chose the fried okra and macaroni and cheese. The fried okra is the best! The Mac and cheese was very creamy and tasted great. Okay, so here's the thing, this place was highly recommended by locals and I feel like it kinda didn't live up to the hype. And to be honest, I can be a garbage disposal, I eat and enjoy everything. The appetizers felt like they came from a bag in the frozen section of Publix, something you could get on your own instead of going to a restaurant for. The sides lacked flavor in my opinion, but the portion is fine because you get to have two sides along with the buttery toast, and the bbq meat is generous in size. But both times I went, they just didn't have a taste really worth going back for. Now, as for the BBQ: the chicken and brisket was okay, can't say it was great and can't say it wasn't, but what made me return a second time was the gigantic Flintstone beef ribs or whatever they're called. The flavor was really, reallllly good. The first time they put me in a food coma. This is a soft drink only joint. CUSTOMER SERVICE- Excellent! They use the team approach here to expect to see more than one face. FOOD- Yup, it's all there. Brisket, ribs, pork, chicken, sausage and all the sides you expect are represented. There is a nice selection of sauces on the table. I had a simple brisket sandwich with krinkle cut fries. Along with a soft drink it cost me about eleven bucks. It was comfort food at its very best. A warm soft bun and perfectly smoked moist brisket. I added the mustard sauce and just moaned with delight. If I'm going to have frozen fries from a bag I like my krinkle cuts. These were cooked very nicely. I would have sold my Mother for fresh-cut fries but hey, you can't have everything. My fellow Yelpers average 4.5 stars and I agree. I'm not sure how I never wrote a review of Uncle Kenny's - we lived about 10 miles south of them for six years, and it was our go-to place for BBQ in a land of chain restaurants. We've brought​ both local and out of town friends here frequently. You'll find them located in​ the back of the Citrus Tower complex and if you blink, you'll miss them. I always felt bad for the people coming out of Weight Watchers next store because​ the smells alone make me break my healthy​ eating. There is always plenty of parking in their lot without walking too far. You enter through the takeout​ area and seating is off to the left. Don't walk past their bottles of BBQ sauce without getting some. We keep our house stocked with their hot BBQ sauce. You'll find about six big booths, plenty of room for larger parties and larger guests. two small tables in the center and two smaller booths, perfect​ for two. The staff is friendly and efficient, getting orders in quickly and keeping drinks filled. I'm always impressed with the fact that both Kenny and his wife are there a good amount of​ the time. Honestly, I can only really speak to their BBQ dishes as I don't​ know that I've had anything else. But, we have never had a bad meal here. I highly recommend starting your dinner with their BBQ Pulled​ Pork Egg Rolls ($8.49) these are two big, fat, crispy egg rolls cut in half. They are stuffed full​ of lightly smoked pulled pork with just a touch of BBQ sauce and a little​coleslaw​w for added crunch. They​ are served with a slide of coleslaw,​ and I like their mustard BBQ sauce with these. I think I've had their​ pulled pork, pork ribs, pulled chicken, brisket and their sausage. I'm obsessed with their smoked jalapeno sausage. I had the Pitmaster Plate with the sausage ($11.99), two sides and two pieces of Texas Toast. The sausage is moist and flavorful but not too spicy. For my sides,​ I got their​ greens (you'll want to save some of the toast to sop up the juices) and their wonderful BBQ baked beans (I love the chunks of meat in them). My family and I recently visited Uncle Kenny's BBQ for lunch at the recommendation of several locals we met at a shopping center across the street. We were told what it lacks in decor, Uncle Kenny's will for sure make up in it's food. They were right. The service was fantastic. The staff was very attentive and we wanted for nothing. We started our meal with the Pulled Pork Eggrolls. They were so good and honestly, could have been a meal by themselves. Seven of us were dining so we were able to try various items on the menu. Items ordered were the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich, Slicked Brisket Sandwich, Chopped Brisket Sandwich and the special of the day, the catfish platter. And don't let me forget the dessert! Let me just put it out there now, that may have been the best damn peanut butter pie I've ever had! The testament to this visit was when my Step Moms plate was left empty. Great BBQ! We really loved the food. Brisket was beautifully sliced and tender, ribs were delicious, pulled pork was chunky and flavorful. The variety of sauces were wonderful- they nailed the vinegar based Carolina style sauce, and we loved the spicy sauce as well. We did a takeout order since they only have indoor dining. A warning to those actually following CDC guidelines during the pandemic; none of the employees are wearing any PPE including masks, and most patrons walking in and sitting down were never wearing masks. Visited Uncle Kenny's for a friends birthday lunch today. We had a big group so they set us up in this den like area downstairs which was pretty handy for the rest of the people since we had some loud kids, lol. Our orders were taken right away which was nice. The waitresses were very attentive the entire lunch. However when the food came I was a bit taken aback and how little meat was served. Could've used another scoop of pulled pork and my husband a few slices more of brisket. Our sides were delicious! Loved the Mac and cheese the best. Overall a great lunch. I can't believe I've lived in Central Florida for so long and haven't tried this place until now. They have recently added St Louis style pizza to their menu. The pizza reminds me a lot of Chicago Style thin crust, which I love. It's a thin cracker crust, square cut. The cheese, however, is different. It's a creamier style cheese. The BBQ chicken pizza we had was very good, as was the pepperoni. We also had the pulled chicken nachos, and those were great too. My only complaint, was that the pretzel bites appetizer that we had was overcooked, burnt really. We will return though, and highly recommend this place if you've never been. read more

Just tried a St. Louis style cheese pizza for lunch; it tastes like the scrapple of pizza. I guess that if you're from St.Louis you enjoy Provel. Provel is a white processed cheese product particularly popular in St. Louis cuisine, that is a combination of cheddar, Swiss, and provolone cheeses. Provel has a low melting point, and therefore has a gooey and almost buttery texture at room temperature. It is the traditional topping for St. Louis-style pizza and it has a uniquely Velveeta cheese like taste to it. The red sauce is very good tasting and the crust is thin and cracker-like. The pizza was ready in under 15 minutes from the time that I ordered it. An extra- large cheese pizza lists $14.99 + tax. read more

While vacationing in Florida, we happened to be in Clermont and looking for a place to eat. Yelp pointed us to this BBQ joint. On the outside, it's unassuming. Inside, the ambience is that of a classic old BBQ pit joint. The seating is limited to about 50 people. The servers were all friendly and attentive. We ordered Big Daddy's Family Feast. This is supposed to feed 4-6 adults. With the three large sides and drinks, I would say it would feed up to seven people. All of the meats were fall off the bone and flavorful. We were only three people, so we had to stop at about the half way mark. We had to have dessert ! The Banana Foster and Chocolate Cake were phenomenal! The prices are very reasonable for the portions you receive. We highly recommend this place to anyone, young or old. We'll definitely be going back again ! read more

I read the reviews and was excited to try Uncle Kenny's BBQ. It's in an old rickety looking building that successfully hides the BBQ gem inside. We were curious about the egg rolls and so that was our first order. When the waitress brought it out I was surprised by how ugly and big the egg roll was. It looked more like a deep fried burrito. The taste was there!! It was really good!! The egg roll wrapper was fantastic. The pork was seasoned and cooked to perfection and the coleslaw along side it was delicious. I am glad that I tried their egg roll but it landed in the same category as a deep fried Twinkie... try it once for fun. Realistically.. It is an indulgent deep fried pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork platter came with two pieces of Texas toast and two sides. It was a lot of food and I was grateful that my daughter and I were sharing it. The pork was moist and flavorful and goes nicely with their mustard based BBQ sauce. The fried okra was delicious and a must order. The baked beans had nice pieces of meat in it. The real star of this restaurant is the service. The staff from start to finish are so welcoming and attentive. We love uncle Kenny's! Their brisket chopped up is divine. Their chips are great! They're a small place so I'd recommend picking up if you don't want to smell like BBQ. LOL! But food is great! Although, one time they did charge me twice for an order when all they had to do was charge the difference. I truly don't remember what the item was, but I remember being a bit disappointed. If you like middle of the line bbq or can't tell the difference between good and bad, then this is your place. Meat was somewhat tender and a bit smoky but not fatty or fall off the bone. You should be able to tell good bbq without any sauce and it needed it. We ordered the bbq nachos, you would think nachos with a bunch of toppings and bbq added, but literally just had a bit of meat and cheese. Also the chips were stale, I called and was told they fry them... Um I'm pretty sure chips are supposed to be crunchy not chewy. Two stars, they give big portions so if your into that and like middle of the line food, go ahead but I wouldn't spend more money there. read more

Stopped in Uncle Kenny's on a recent trip to Orlando. The weather wasn't great, so we got away from the theme parks to discover some old school Florida. We decided to visit the Citrus Tower in Clermont, which is in a hilly part of Florida - I didn't know there was a hilly part of Florida! The Citrus Tower is completely avoidable, but in the same parking lot is this wonderful little barbecue joint (a term I use very lovingly). The restaurant is lined with trophies that Uncle Kenny has won in competitions around the country. We read on Yelp about the pulled pork egg rolls & everyone was glad we tried them. Most of our crew got pulled or sliced pork sandwiches and loved them. The sides were great too - especially the fried okra. Fresh, not frozen and boy was it delicious!For me, the smoked prime rib was calling my name! It was lunchtime & I usually don't overdo it, but it was vacation - diet can start when you get home!
