Decent portions and taste - better than the fast food restaurants also located on post. It supports the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation fund for the Soldiers stationed on the post. You will be surrounded by Soldiers, former Soldiers working on post as contractors or government employees, or family members. Makes you quickly realize that you are on a military post. Rod and Gun Clubs are found on most (at least larger) Army posts. They sell fishing/hunting licenses, fishing/hunting supplies (rods, reels, lures, ammunition, and some even sell rifle, shotguns, and pistols). Depending upon the posts, rifle/shotgun range(s) are also available.

Tablerock is such an awesome place! We saw the Christmas Carol performed there, and it was just…read moremagical. The actors were great, as were the costumes and the atmosphere is one of a kind. You're out in a secluded grove, watching a play at night outside as it's performed on a big slab of rock. One of a kind! The folks that run the place are also very friendly and the concessions are quite cheap ($1 popcorn and $2 for cocoa with whipped cream and sprinkles).

Its claim to fame is that it has over 6,000 different spurs, which is the Worlds largest and part of a 10,000 spur collection. You will see spurs that date back to the early 1800, along with Jackie Kennedy's spurs and those worn by Poncho Villa. This place has two floors, housing thousands of rare antiques and artifacts. It is huge, covering a City block with unique artifacts, to include Native arrowheads, millstones and clothing. It is very tastefully laid out with an antique soda shop, a historic school classroom, a transportation section displaying Ford Model T, a full scale log cabin/jail and numerous antique farm equipment, including a huge old case tractor and other early farm artifacts on displays. You will see a full scale doctor's office, a dentist office and partial hospital, displaying artifacts dating back to the early 1800. This is the single most impressive place I've visited in years. We spent two hours in it and didn't see it all. This is a must see museum. It has a gift shop loaded with very interesting merchandise for sale.

I say hidden because it does not look that big from the outside, but has a lot inside. It was so nice to have visited on their first day of reopening due to getting a new elevator (it has two stories). The volunteers were so sweet and offered up their knowledge on the displays, which was truly appreciated. There is so much history here including the Lloyd and Madge Mitchell world's largest spur collection and stories behind these extraordinary people. I appreciated the diverse history in the museum. There were so many displays and narratives posted, that it would take all day to read through it all. If you appreciate Texas History, it's definitely worth experiencing this museum. I'd like to pop in again if I get the chance to read all of the narratives that I didn't have a chance to get to last time. The hours were: Wednesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.

We dry camped overnight at Little River Dragway on June 6th in order to attend a private event on…read morethe grounds the following morning that was hosted at the venue the following day. The June 6th drag race was a bonus to this stay as we hadn't been aware that the strip had reopened for their regular season. As I've never attended races in person, it was definitely an exciting night. This venue does not take credit/debit cards, so remember to carry cash for concessions if you would like to purchase refreshments from the onsite vendors. Hearing protection is very important if you are on site for the races or time trials before hand as some of these engines are insanely loud. Keep in mind that the stands are not shaded and you will want sun screen. We look forward to attending the regular races again later in the season and hope to attend another event in order to enjoy the quarter mile strip in our our rally car or on our motorcycle.

It is a great pool and full of teenage memories. My parents used to be regulars on the dance floor. Superb dancers. He retired from the military a few years ago, but they were the bell of the Officers Club when they were there. I had my senior dance here. Ah, I remember it well. In those days we all sponsored an end of the year event of some kind. Mine was a formal dance at the "Club." Everyone I knew was all dressed to the teeth, instead of jeans & t-shirts, bobby-sox and loafers. Over the years the club has been renovated a couple of time and it is even better today then it was then. Stopped by a few months ago to just make sure it was still holding its own. From the perspective of a lazy 17 year old lounging at the pool and eating lunch in the snack bar, it was pretty damn good then . . . . and still is.
