Only giving three stars for a few minor reasons and probably because I've gotten older and picky about things that only rub me the wrong way, but are perfectly ok with the rest of the world. First, IMO, it's not exactly the family friendly experience of other drag strips in Texas. KINDA. I mean, it IS family friendly, and my kids had a great time, but they are kids, and weren't aware of what all the drunk locals where doing and or saying around us. Not too us, nobody messed With us or gave us a hard time, unless you count the fact my wife, walking without me, and with our 6 year old son, was getting cat calls and whistles on her way to go buy us drinks at the concession stand and back. (I'm fine with this, I'm a dude, I understand, and I knew this would probably happen, and I asked her if she wanted me to go get the drinks, but our daughter seriously loves drag racing and didn't wanna leave our seat by the Christmas Tree, and our son wanted to go get the drinks, so I let them go, she had a phone, I could bring "Hell and Fury" to her side in an instant if I needed to pretty quick)
Anyways, it's an old track, I hear the oldest in Texas, and it shows, if your into nostalgia, this is your kinda place, the track is even built with a slight incline, damn near a steep hill at the burnout box, I'm guessing it was designed that way back in the day to help get a good burnout for those 57 Chevys I imagine used to line up for a go.
Oh yea, my BIG problem with this place, is you better bring CASH, they don't accept plastic for anything. Nothing, period, if you don't, you gotta leave the track, like we did, drive into town and hit the ATM, they do NOT have one at the track. You will need paper cash, in hand, to get in the gate, or even buy a bottle of water.
It's 2018, you can get a FREE card reader from Paypal, or most any banks these days. FREE, it attaches to any smart phone, and you can then swipe any credit card to conduct business, I've even bought peaches off the side of the road, by a dude in the back of a pickup truck near Fredericksburg with my MasterCard.
If you don't want a sun burn, go at sundown like we did, or go at night, or if you wanna look funny bring a parasol, but if your a guy I wouldn't, that might get you some funny looks.
They have aluminum bleachers to sit in, but they ARE NOT COVERED. Bring sunblock, or go at night. Just go at night, it's Texas, gets hot around here anyways..
The people I met that worked there, were really nice and friendly, we will definitely be going back, now we know what to expect, things will be 100% fine I'm sure. I'm attaching a few shots I got with my phone because this yelp is lacking in all kinds of photos, was just a Street legal shootout, so no big HP pics. But some is better than none. read more
