I remain very impressed with the service and competence of Herm Ungerman Electric. I had them diagnose a short in the wiring at my home and also install a ceiling fan in an income property. Both projects required extra work and skill as my homes are over 100 years old. The Electrician, Chris Linn, was polite and professional. Very Hard working. The staff at the office were courteous and professional. They even followed up to see if I was satisfied! I found their price was fair too. I will be doing a rewiring of lights in my garage soon. Unfortunately, I had a recent electrical emergency. We kept losing power to half our house (like 10 times in one night) and we called National Grid. NG said the problem was serious and I needed an electrician to come and diagnose/fix it right away or it could result in an electrical fire. This forced us to call maybe a dozen different electricians to see who could get to me the quickest. Ungerman had good reviews and said they had a field tech that could be to my house within a couple hours. This was the best option so we booked and waited. They actually got to the house in about 45 minutes, which was great! The two man team got to work and diagnosed that the problem was within my meterbox on the outside of the house and they needed to replace this. When the techs left to go purchase/acquire a meterbox, it began to rain. A man from the main office informed me that he couldn't have his techs there working on this in the rain, therefore they would have to finish it up the next morning. They returned at exactly 8am and had the problem fixed in 2.5 hours. They even checked out a small issue with my dryer. All together we were charged 1 hr of emergency rate ($170) and 2.5 hrs of regular rate ($120) plus materials which amounted to a total of $630. This was a steep fix, but I do not know the rates of other companies, and it feels good to have peace of mind that my house won't lose power randomly, or go up in flames. I had a very awful experience. I called and spoke with a very kind gentleman, to review my invoice. I was very clear that I didn't want to escalate the matter and simply wanted them to consider the circumstances: (two service calls for the same service were priced very differently). Someone by the name of Susan called back and she wouldn't let me finish talking. I had to end the call. I started off by repeating that I didn't want to make an issue of it and all I wanted to continue to say -- is that I was fine paying for the service call. I just wanted to explain myself, but she refused to allow me to finish talking. I'm sure they don't care, but they lost a customer. read more

These guys are great. The folks that answer the phone are friendly and knowledgeable. The technicians installed 4 ceiling fans, 2 pendant lights and a pool table light, all within a few weeks of moving into a new home. They are friendly, they wore masks and also took their shoes off. The work was done without a hitch. They even came back just to make sure I had the right kind of dimmer. Maybe a little pricier than other options, but you get what you pay for with these guys. Regret paying them before we returned, as we came home to find items broken ; items and cash missing;outlets that had worked before no longer working . They refused to issue even a partial refund. I called Ungerman Electric to ask about getting a couple small issues that came up during our home inspection process fixed. My first phone call was long, but went well: I spoke with both the owner and the electrician who would be doing the work. I was given a reasonable price and set up an appointment. Fifteen minutes before my appointment time the next week, I received a phone call from the main office informing me that they wouldn't be able to make it. I was frustrated, particularly as I had taken the time off from work in order to be there for the appointment, but agreed to reschedule for the following week. Thirty minutes into my new appointment time the following week (where I had again taken time off from work), no one had shown up. When I called the office, they had no record of my appointment. After getting shuffled around a bit, I found myself back on the phone with the same person who had rescheduled me in the first place. She was incredibly apologetic and we scheduled a third appointment. I politely asked if, considering that this was the second time no one showed up for my appointment, they might adjust the price of their service at this point. She was receptive to my request and told me that she would mention it to the owner and I would receive a call in advance of my appointment letting me know about price. I never received a phone call, and though someone did show up for my third appointment, it was not the electrician I originally spoke to. My overall price was not adjusted (the electrician had no idea what I was talking about) and the final bill felt steep at that, considering what was discussed when I made my original appointment. After the electrician left, I reviewed the receipt more closely and realized the reason it, in part, felt steep was because he had inflated the amount of time he was at my home by a half hour, therefore upping the hourly charge! The icing on the cake was when I went into the bathroom the electrician had asked to use and found he had left the toilet seat up. As a new homeowner, I had hoped to build a relationship with a reliable, local, women-owned electric company that I would feel comfortable returning to in the future, but it appears that company will not be Ungerman. read more

They were able to come and look at my problem very quickly and fixed it shortly thereafter. Very quick and have been to home twice on things. Were thorough and complete and found the problems. Very reasonably priced.

I called Ungerman Electric at 8:15 am on a week day and explained the electrical problem we were experiencing. They had one of their electricians, Randy, at my place within 45 minutes. He was professional and courteous and seemed to know what he was doing. He quickly diagnosed the problem - the main breaker at the pole/meter was corroded, causing reduced power to the house, and needed to be replaced. He didn't have the part in his van so he called the office and another worker would bring it to him. I felt comfortable enough to then leave Randy on his own and went on to work, having given Randy my credit card info for payment of services. When u got home everything was working beautifully. The next day I received a very friendly call from the office letting me know how much the charge would be. Here is where my only complaint lies. The price seemed quite steep. A dollar and change short of $1,000 to replace the main breaker? The explanation was that the breaker itself was expensive ~ about 1/2 the bill. Ok. But then an additional $500 for labor? Like I said, they definitely are professional, prompt and trustworthy, but also a bit pricey although I didn't price shop or get a price quote in advance. Will definitely ask for price quote in advance next time. read more

Electrical contractors don't get much better than this -- a prompt callback, a knowledgeable and competent person (John) coming to the house and getting the job done. Clear itemization of materials and no games about how long he was there. Finished work is neat and clean and we will enjoy the added functionality to our home.
