We loved the exhibition hall where all all of the exhibits were hands on including a sand table where kids can make impressions from cast animal prints and the touch table where rangers had set our objects found on the trail for kids to hold and handle (today was mesquite pods, a rodent skeleton, cactus fruits, feathers, a birds nest, and shells). There were also scavenger hunt pages specific to the park to make the hikes fun for kids. The upland trail was the perfect post meal walk for our family (4 year old and 7 year old), if we'd come in the cool of the morning or evening we might have gone for both loops. Even if you're not up for a hike the garden and bird blind behind the visitors center are worth the trip. There are a beautiful variety of plants from the park with labels and rangers put out water to attract animals to the garden. In just a few minutes we saw cottontail rabbits, two kinds of lizards, a family of quail, and many many birds - some of which a friendly ranger helped us identify.

Haven't been inside for some time, so not sure what all is currently there. Not usually too busy or crowded, but there is almost always someone there, either at the basketball courts, the field, playground area, picnic tables, or fitness court. The "Fitness Court" is a national fitness program, and has a Google App that you can download to find other "courts" in other towns across the country, as well as see examples of how to do the exercises with the equipment, and keep track of your progress.

Families swimming and couples kayaking in the Rio Grande! Best. Day. Ever. This park is pretty neat too. There's a small playground that seems well maintained and a trail that goes for miles following the Rio Grande. There are also fire pits placed strategically throughout this park on the river bank. And grass...grasssssssss galore! And frogs! The only reason I'm docking a store is because of the storm of mosquitoes. I grew up near water, but I've never walked into a cloud of mosquitoes. Bug spray is a necessity.

I cannot deny we were…read moreoriginally planning to visit the "La Union Maze" but after trying to get tickets for a whole week I ended up searching for a different one and were to get tickets with Messilla Valley Maze. We purchased tickets online. It was an easy transaction but most of all online user friendly. Their posted online address takes you pass its actual entrance location but it is obvious and once you do a u-turn its all good. We arrived early so parking was easy but for all the people who were arriving when we were leaving they parked across the avenue and had to walk a good while. We also encountered a long line to pick up the wrist bands but we were not in line any more than 5 minutes. Mesilla Valley Maze was beautifully decorated with plenty of activities for every member of the family. The one thing I loved the most were the picnic tables under the shade. They were perfect. Live Music, good food, slides, maze, pumpkin patch, pumpkin store (in case you don't want to go to the pumpkin patch), roping, etc.. Perfect place to go and spend a nice fall day for many hours with the whole family. Totally worth the price.
