The area surrounding campus is rural where housing supply is scarce, unaffordable and inconvenient. Bard is a residential college, however the percentage of its students living on-campus is much lower than other residential colleges. This issue has persisted for years! The administration has failed to address this crisis. I would not recommend enrolling there. The academics might be ok, but there will be no campus life whatsoever. Do not just take my word for it. Google it. Do your research.

They say you can't make a second first impression and vibe from the current students we saw walking around just didn't make the place seem like the right fit. Every time I come up there is something new. I love seeing the fall foliage here and the bright happy spirits of all the townspeople. It is right next to the wonderful town of New Paltz with its bustling nightlife and restaurants. You get the full college experience in a couple miles. It is easy to walk around and do everything you need. It is far enough to get away from the craziness of the city but still be able to enjoy yourself.

I was accepted to four schools and chose this one, and it was absolutely the right choice. My professors are very supportive, I love my cohort, and our practicum coordinator is great. I had to take undergrad statistics there before applying to the master's program (my bachelor's is in a different subject), and my professor Glenn Geher was really helpful. This might sound hyperbolic, but it's rare in life to have something turn out even better than you hoped. I feel very lucky to be here.

I took the elevator down and they just took the group on the stairs and took off without waiting. So I had to leave. I took the issue to admissions and they had nothing to say. If you have any mobility needs don't go here. Nope! Came here for a campus visit and the guide mumbled something and then took the group off at a fast pace, to climb three (or four) flights to the lecture room. Zero access for people with disabilities. I raised with them (as it was not accessible for us) and the first question asked was "did you fill out the form for people with disabilities?" Yes we did. But that is all you got? They say in other reviews that this college is too "woke." How about not woke enough?

Route 2 goes right into the middle of campus where you can see a delightful range of classic New England architectural styles in a rural setting with peaceful views of the surrounding mountains. First, the mid-morning information session was well-organized with a senior associate director (who was a Williams alumna) and rising sophomore from Seattle. Second, we did the 45 minute walking campus tour with a junior from Philadelphia who was refreshingly honest about her experiences. In contrast to Amherst College (which we visited the day before), Williams had a more organized and polished information session. One could see personal and specific examples of various Williams alumni being proactive in helping current students. Finally, the campus did not impose a KN-95 mask requirement. Overall, it's a lovely campus that is worth a stop if you're in this neck of the woods in the northern Berkshires!

I attended their summer program in 1983 and enrolled in the following fall. It was an intense experience challenging me socially and academically. The administration, faculty, and support staff were accessible. Even the food service workers were there on difficult days to assist with a listening ear and some advice. The Chaplain's Center provided for transitional counseling and the Learning Center provided qualified peer tutors to assist students. It stressed independence but offered structure to mature safely. Troy, Albany, Saratoga, Lake George, and the ski spots were among some of my favorite distractions in the Capital District. Having a bowling alley in the Student Union provided a great stress relief nearby. Focused undergraduate research was highly valued, flexibility in fusing disciplines, and focused balancing long and short-term objectives prepared me for my unanticipated career and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and thoroughness, responsibility toward facilitating for our community's interest, and reflecting the RPI initiative. "Why not change the world?"

We were really impressed by the students and staff. The students we met seemed happy to be there. The faculty seems to care about the students along with their success and well-being. He has overseen the development of Bard as a powerhouse of musical activities. The Summer Music Festival is focused this August on Puccini. But beyond the festival itself, Bard is a virtual buffet of music of all genres set in unique venues set in a bucolic Hudson Valley setting. I just saw a cabaret performance in the Spiegeltent. It's an easy trip north to Bard from Grand Central Station and a reason to plan a trip to the Hudson Valley. There's nothing comparable in Napa Valley, and New York even has some decent wines now. I cannot overstate how beautiful Bard College and the surrounding countryside is and how much music is packed into these few months. BTW, Leon Botstein and I were in the same year at Music & Art High School many years ago. Even though he definitely doesn't know me-he never did-I admire what he has achieved, and the pleasure it brings to music lovers.
