This is a great looking school in person and on paper. This college is one of the best community colleges in New York State. It is ranked number four of the top ten community colleges in New York. The campus is very diversed. There are many different clubs and sports for my daughter to choose from. The grounds are very clean. The dorm rooms are pretty spacious with a mini kitchen in each dorm space, no community bathrooms thank goodness. The cost of attendance is about 16k per year that including the room and board, but not books. This is a wonderful option for parents that have children who do not qualify for TAP or PELL (us). I'm hoping my daughter decided to go to this college. It's a perfect transition from high school to college. read more

Great school to get an associates degree. Has almost any course for almost any major. Most professors are wonderful, services are wonderful, and are very accessible as far as adaptive equipment for students with either a learning disability or a visual impairment, there is act, dadoes services which allows students to take their test in that office if necessary and allows extra time to take the test then any other students. If you live close by you may want to commute because even though the dorms are nice, new, and big, a lot of the rules and the policy is messed up. Although I haven't selected courses at this college in a few years, this college hasn't changed much. Although this college is a community college on paper, most of the funding and help comes from the State's University program (called SUNY, for short). It features several 2-year programs for almost any one person. The fees are generally less than those high-classed colleges, but as bad as the situation with the rising fees has it, it's choices are definitely worth it. I'm not a big fan of people wanting nursing - but no matter who I talk to on campus, they tend to push their nursing classes. They have a large turnout of nursing students. Their buildings are all rather huge and the college - like most others - sits on a hill. Organization of classes tend to reflect around Hudson Hall for most courses within the core subjects - Math, English, Science and Social/Government Studies. But, for anything else - expect to have classes in one of the few other buildings here. Time frames can vary, and with some courses you might not be on much of a waiting list. The professors at this college are well educated here, and will take their time to explain things in depth to the students, in a time slot that suits them best. There are so many courses within these core subjects they have to devote seven buildings to this college, along with a few online classes that can be taken off-campus (Internet, too). If you aren't focusing class study on the core subjects, you will probably be in one of the other buildings. Accounting classes and similar are taught in Taconic Hall, Drumlin Hall is the cafeteria building while the nearby Dutchess Hall is where most music/theater courses are taught, the Center for Business and Industry Building is where business and industry courses are taught, and the Washington Building is where Science lab and Art classes are taught. read more

Dutchess Community College is a diamond in the rough and it doesn't get the fair shake that it deserves. First, the NYS resident per-credit tuition cost is the lowest out of any SUNY 2 year or 4 year schools in the state and has been for years. Second, there are tons and tons of classes offered at night, on weekends, online (not so much online but there's some) so it's very flexible for the working professional or the individual trying to save some cash before they transfer to a 4 year. Of course, this school is known for their super competitive nursing program (there's a huge waiting list so be warned if you're looking to go there - you'll need to plan ahead and accordingly) but it has a lot of great professors and good facilities. A lot of their labs are pretty new (the big science building was built in 2000) and their library is extensive and beautiful. You are really getting a great bang for your buck at DCC! read more

Good college to go to, I've been going here for a couple semesters and I've really had a good experience here and just learning about life in general just from the people I've met. The pricing for courses is also really good on the wallet and most professors who teach here are pretty well rounded and down to earth. I definitely recommend this place to anyone just starting out with college and wants to save money, or is still figuring out what they want to do. read more

Let's get real. DCC is an alright School, but they're staff is super unprofessional and rude! The professors half the time don't even know what they're doing or how to explain things. When you want advisement there's no one there to help you, unless you have hours of the day to sit around waiting for someone to talk to you when they all would rather socialize and tell you to come back. The advisors take a long time to get what you need done as in helping they aren't helpful. A lot of students transfer to WCC due to the lack of responsibility within the facility. Many professors are very unmotivated and have weak teaching styles that cause a great deal of students to fail. This school is definitely not the school I wish I chose. I really needed advisement and to talk to someone about what is happening in my schooling career and it's been 3 weeks since I emailed and I've gotten no response. I don't understand how this school expects students to succeed when they don't encourage it. read more

This college has the absolute worst financial aid/student financial services department ever. They hardly answer the phone and when they do, you are met with attitude. The woman who answers the phone likes to talk over you, be louder than you, and not give an ounce of attention to the questions/concerns you are inquiring about. Complete lack of professionalism. My fiance and I are both starting our first semester this month and have experienced nothing but unsatisfactory responses. They do not respond to emails, the only response we receive are automated responses that are the same emails over and over. Its like pulling teeth trying to get help and assistance. If I were you, I would take the drive up to Columbia-Greene community college. Unless you're okay with getting spoken to rudely, unprofessionally, and do not mind having none of your questions answered then go to DCC. At this point we aren't even sure if DCC is right for us. Spare yourself and look into other schools. I tried contacting Michael Roe today to make a complaint and hopefully have something done about this 3 month long battle. He directed me to the VP of financial services, Susan Mead, who unsurprisingly did NOT answer the phone. Absolutely tired of this. That department is one of the most crucial departments and they do NOT care about you. I thought when there was a problem with staff, the people that are in charge are supposed to ask them what's going on and talk to them about their behavior. I guess this either doesn't happen anymore or DCC just doesn't care and allows their staff to be completely nasty to others with no repercussions. In this time with the pandemic and everyone struggling and for those where school is a major first step-often a scary and intimidating step-you would think there would be some compassion towards others. It baffles me that people are allowed to treat others like this. read more

It's pretty understandable that people turn a blind eye to DCC and what it has to offer. Community Colleges are usually complete jokes but I don't feel like that is the case here. All the professors I've had have been challenging, the student services offices are super helpful and most of the people I've met have been really cool. Being tight with money all the time and having to work, DCC is a saving grace. Plus, once you've finished there you can transfer to a four year school with great ease. This place is a gem. read more

though i did enjoy my time at dcc, it was definitely not all positive. i loved a majority of my professors but some of them quite frankly either should not have been teaching, were teaching the wrong subject, or were just plain rude and unprofessional. secondly, the advising sucks. i had no advisor through my entirety at dcc and when i went to apply for graduation last spring, i got yelled at for not having an advisor! also, graduating took me 3 years instead of 2 because i had no advisor and just used degree works to help me. otherwise, dutchess is a good option, especially for those who plan to go on to 4 year schools and want to save money. read more
