Most memorable moment? The education I received for wanting to order Sunny Side Up Eggs - which is a reasonable request considering the Irish breakfast did say eggs of your choice. But this being Ireland, "your choice" includes scrambled, poached, or fried. "This ain't the Waffle House", said the server to this yankee. Not to be deterred, I asked which is the recommendation, they said to get the scrambled, which came with Irish butter concoction. Beautiful. The meal was huge - I would always recommend it as a morning meal. I thought the black and white pudding delicious and the sausages were just insanely huge in portion. Not a bad problem. I brought some back to the hotel to my daughter who was sleeping in (college student problem). I also went to the to go counter and ordered some porridge and pasty to go along with a flat white (which still has not hit San Francisco). Flat white is the right kind of coffee. This nice neighborhood restaurant is a great place to eat breakfast if you are staying at the Radisson Blu St. Helen. A short walk. Great ambience. Excellent food - just don't order sunny side up eggs :-)! read more

Located in the heart of Mount Merrion, (prominently upper middle class of Dublin), I came here for early dinner one day while in the area. Surrounded by mostly residential area, they have a plenty of parking available. Other customers seemed to be local residents when I was there. Service was very friendly, and all listed on the dinner menu was reasonable. I was going to try something else but a server suggested today's special. Salmon with Chinese noodles, served with either a red or white glass of wine for 20€. Salmon was cooked well but parts of it was a bit dry, nice flavor nonetheless. Noodle was just okay, I think the dish would made it better if they served al dente spaghetti. Flavor was again very good, just lacking texture. If you pay by credit card, they bring a machine to your table for added security. read more

Very little effort on show On the way to a meeting I stopped in for an early dinner at 6pm, in a residential area I expected a decent family restaurant. I had a chicken burger and a tomAto and red onion salad. The tomatoes were so cold they tasted of nothing, they gave me an ice cream headache! The burger was fine, frozen chicken fillet deep fried, possibly reheated. Shallow fried fresh chicken would be much nicer, without too much effort. Salad served was a bit wilted. Shame. A little effort would go a long way here. Could do a lot better. Staff were more interested in discussing theirs outfits and make than in the customers. read more

I got the caesar salad here and it was ginormous and delicious. I felt like the food was really quality here compared to other places that i've been in dublin, and the area is very nice, right across from a park with ample outdoor seating and quick service. There's also a cute little food market attached and a cute pub attached on the other side with an outdoor screen and ample seating to grab a drink near by if you're interested. read more

Firstly this is a hard review as the Deli is fantastic from the service to the taste of the food. The Deli isn't over complicated with a short menu that delivers healthy fresh options. However the restaurant on the other hand just can't seem to get it right. I often go here as it's a convenient location and they have a good menu. The staff can be hit and miss some of them are great and offer fantastic service, others shouldn't be there they just don't know what customer service is or even the old service with a smile. Get the wrong person and you may get half drinks and than be chasing to get someone for the other half. The y also have this problem with the food. There is a great menu, when done right it delivers and when done bad it is bad. I have gone for dinner and had a fantastic meal to return the following morning for brunch to get the complete oppposite with over cooked food that had to back to the kitchen. Its been like this since day one so not sure why I expect more but then I see the prices and that's why. The prices are higher than a greasy spoon yet I get better service and consistency at some of those. There is no reason for the inconsistency, its part of a big chain and has enough business that it should be able to fix these issues. read more

I got food from the Union Cafe deli to go from for a fancy picnic at the weekend. The rotisserie chicken sandwiches with honey Dijon tarragon sauce were delicious! The staff were genuinely lovely too and brought us out our sandwiches when the chicken was cooked through (we got there early!). I also had a soy latte which was delicious. There's a nice outdoor seating area with heaters that gets some great morning sunshine. I will definitely be back (again)! read more

Had dinner there tonight and it was just great. Although they were under pressure, open only four days and packed out, the food was good and the service was great. The staff were working flat out, but smiling and taking great care of customers. It was our first night out in six months and they made it special. Wear yourself out stomping about Deer Park before grabbing a well deserved craft beer and perfect ribeye steak. I promise you'll be happy. I have my fingers crossed that this will become a neighbourhood mainstay. There are clues that they rushed the fit out to be open for Christmas and that the staff are green behind the ears, but I didn't care and those creases will soon be ironed out. The deli has half-roast chickens, salads/sambos to take-away and plenty of nice artisan fare (think Sheridan's cheese, crusty bread and expensive dips!). There's a lovely beetroot, carrot and goat's cheese starter (a little much pickle, but beautiful). The steak is super. The accompaniments, less so, but, again, forgivable creases easily excused when the meat had starring role. Lots of space for buggies (and, I guess, others on wheels). I wish I could give Union Cafe zero stars. This was the first time I've ever eaten in a restaurant where I hated absolutely everything about it. The place is one enormous cliche, an awful attempt to combine hipsters & the Hamptons. Makes your skin crawl. Then there's the food. I had the 1/4 rotisserie Chicken. Sounds delicious? Well it was dry, actually bone dry and zero flavour. This came with a fistful of rocket and two teaspoons of avocado, nothing else and they were charging €16. Now I know Dublin is a rip off but this rubbish for that is a joke on everyone who eats in this place. The others all agreed their lunch, burger & sandwich, was awful. How can you get a sandwich wrong? The staff obviously hate working here, seems the whole place is run by 1st year students in UCD trying to make a few quid. Zero evidence of any training. That is unless management ordered everyone working there to be surly and passive aggressive like dishonest little car exhaust mechanics. This place is a shambles. Next time I'm off to Michael's across the road, at least you get good food and good service. read more

An absolute gem right down the road! My parents live close to the site of this restaurant and whenever we were home to visit we frequented the previous tenant of the property - the old Kielys' of Mount Merrion - based mainly on proximity over quality. Kielys closed and the site was vacant for a while but the when we were home in February and needed somewhere to grab a bite we noticed that there was a new occupant and with fairly low expectations we chanced it on a Friday night. Score! The space has been completely transformed from slightly tatty neighborhood pub to hip bar-restaurant. The menu is varied and the quality is uniformly excellent. Throw in a friendly and attentive staff and you have yourself a winner. We have dined several times with multiple generations of the family here and from my octogenarian parents to my kindergarten aged daughter everyone was very happy with the Union Cafe. read more
