I believe we grabbed a table just shortly after they opened for the day as staff seemed disorganized and they had just printed their specials for the day. Prices were a little steep so I didn't get an alcoholic beverage, the wine looked and sounded great though! I did try their soup and ordered the hummus plate since their only other veg option sounded spicy. The food was fresh and good, mushroom soup was just OK. I wish they'd served the side of bread with some butter. The coffee machine was being serviced while we were there and it was amusing to hear all the locals trying to order coffee and being told no in various ways by each employee. After one too many room service meals at the Clayton, I decided to venture beyond the hotel grounds for lunch. And I'm so happy I did! I walked in at around 12:30pm with 2 colleagues. The restaurant was certainly busy with the lunch crowds, but it wasn't overly noisy or packed. We were seated immediately and had a chance to place our orders quickly as well. 2 of us ordered the Fish and Chips which wasn't the smartest decision. The dish itself was HUGE. We would have been just fine splitting 1 between the 2 of us had we known. No complaints here. Everything was spot on taste-wise, and both of our plates came with a ton of fries (in addition to a decent portion of mushy peas). My other colleague ordered the pasta special of the day and wasn't necessarily thrilled with it, but maybe she just ordered the wrong thing? Ambiance was impeccable, a pure 10/10. The area has a ton of natural light and is super inviting. The decor is sophisticated and really adds to the overall 5 star feel. The location was super convenient for us. We were staying at the Clayton Hotel so we were just steps away. The restaurant is also conveniently located near a bus stop in case you are looking to visit and need public transport. Stumbled upon this place by accident and decided to give it a try. Overall, a pleasant experience that's a little off the beaten path. The menu was a little eclectic but we ended up enjoying it. We started with the charcuterie plate, which was good but a little smaller than I would have expected (especially needed more bread) and the gambas which were also good. For the main course, I had their pasta of the day which was fettucine with chicken- good, though again the portion could have been a little bigger. read more

It is hard for me to review this place. On a lot of levels I really like it, but on others I don't. For example the Eggs Benedict are usually really good and come with a nice side of potatoes. On the other, the service seems put out every-time they have to seat someone. For lunch once I had a salad that was great, and the chicken wings look good, but the price of everything is a bit higher than what it seems it should be. So, I'm conflicted, should I give The Canal Bank a good review or a bad? The food is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The service is consistently mediocre yet I find myself wanting to go and eat here. I guess all I can do is give them a three star review. Lower for some things, and higher for others. read more

Had a quick lunch here while traveling for work in Dublin. It was pretty busy but was able to get a table right away. I ordered the grilled chicken salad. It was enormous! While the ingredients were tasty, they were extremely heavy altogether. I had half and was able to function throughout the day. Too much chipotle dressing and chorizo can give you so much heartburn. The location of this place is great, it's really beautiful inside. Their menu is impressive, ranges from sandwiches to main course. I got the vegetarian omelet, not advertised as that but it has no meat and lots of rabbit food. It was really good and tasty and I can't fault the service. I've only been here once so I can't really give it more stars - just yet - but I'm thrilled to have found a new (to me) brunch place with so much potential. The menu is one of the best I've seen. Lots of choice. I had the Huevos Rancheros, which to my mind are exactly like (delicious) vegetarian soft-flour tortillas. My friend had the Chicken Club Sandwich and it looked very good - the skinny fries looking especially tasty. She normally never finishes chips and I get her leftovers but not this time! The portion size of both dishes was more than decent. The brunch menu I'm told starts at 11.30am on a Sunday and I would recommend getting in there relatively early because by mid-afternoon, it was getting very crowded and noisy. Up to that point, however, it seemed to me an ideal place to relax and nurse a hangover or just plain old exhaustion. Sister restaurant of Tribeca in Ranelagh, they also offer the chicken wings as a starter which is a great idea. Last time I was there I ordered the chicken wings to share and had a second starter as a main, nachos. I had made the mistake to actually have a proper main course after the chicken wings the previous time and was not doing it again. That was way too much food. I couldn't appreciate the salmon, even though it was tasty and organic! The nachos was just OK, not very garnished but it is a starter so I guess it makes sense. The wings were as good as ever. I like the front part of the restaurant with the big glass windows, the back room is a bit dark. The staff is OK, nothing special to report. We went here for breakfast and were both very disappointed. We both had the Irish breakfast (not an everyday event!) All of the meat (sausages, pudding & rashers) were deep fried. The eggs , while poached correctly, were bland and tasteless. The toast was from poor quality sliced white bread. Overall the experience was poor and not worth the price charged. It's a pity that this cafe cannot improve their offering of this standard dish as otherwise the location and cafe itself is great. Close to and recommended by the No 31 guesthouse nearby. I was seated immediately without a reservation. The food was all very affordable and surprisingly, some of the better food I had in Ireland. From the same people who bring you Tribeca, this is Canal Bank. This is a great restaurant for a casual dinner during the week or lunch on the weekend. They have the obligatory chicken wings which are finger licking good obviously. I normally share them with someone for starters but if you want to tackle a basket on your own you can. They'll wrap up the left overs so you can pick up where you left off if you can't finish them. They have lots of other good stuff too. I had never tried meatloaf before but this was delicious. I stopped in here with a friend after watching a football match at Obriens across the street. The atmosphere of the place was really nice - really light and airy, which was a nice change from sitting in the pub. I was actually surprised at how light the atmosphere was! The food was also very good - my friend got the Caesar Salad, and the chicken was really tasty. I had the hamburger, and it was very good also. Smart, trendy bistro cafe, serving excellent food at reasonable prices (i.e. the prices are good for quality food, etc.). Service is friendly, if sometimes a little aloof - some staff seem to have an attitude problem - but generally it is popular and busy, most nights. One word of warning - if you are seated in the back of the restaurant it gets stifling in summer, which is unpleasant, so best sit nearer the front. I went to canal bank cafe for dinner on 29 May 2013 (so 1 year ago) and I wrote this review back then for my blog juleslovesfood so I thought I would put it up on YELP now. I have not been back again to Canal Bank Cafe. Being Italian I do a a somewhat high standard for pasta so perhaps I made the wrong choice in what I ordered. I had sausage linguine with peas and spinach. There was honestly so much oil I had to decant it into a separate bowl. Sausages are , in themselves, quite oily so I am not sure why the chef added so much extra oil. My one friend had the hake which she said was delicious, the other ordered the chicken breast which was great but again the veg were very oily. Perhaps I will go back and give it another chance but I will try other places before I go back there. Very cute location though. read more

Came here with my husband and mom for breakfast and brunch a few times on a recent trip to Dublin and we all loved it. Really nice variety of healthy and hearty breakfast, brunch and lunch choices with plenty of gluten-free options if you are looking for that. The food was lovely, tasty and fresh and the portions were plentiful. It's a clean, airy, light and comfortable place. Not too noisy so you can easily have a conversation.
