This is the closest coffee shop to my mother-in-law's place, and I was hoping it'd at least beat Biggby--nope. The espresso here tastes like bong water. My latte was scalding hot, with a terrible flavor profile--bitter and unbalanced. Honestly, I can make a better latte at home on my Miele. This place is just not about it, and seems more like a bored housewife passion project than a business. I asked for a sticker, and the cashier didn't ring it up. Then someone walked out from the back, made her cancel the whole transaction and ring up the tiny sticker for $4 --nearly the price of my awful coffee. I've printed plenty of stickers for my own brand and give them away because I like people being proud to rep my work. Unfortunately, there's nothing here to be proud of, and I wouldn't dream of gouging people for supporting my brand. If you're in the area, save your money and just drink some Folgers lol. read more

A great hidden gem in Buchanan. They have healthy options to fill you up and great selection of cafe drinks, and homemade pastries. The service is fast, you can order online and when you arrive it will be ready to go. Or you can walk in and have your food in like 5 minutes or less. The Union Coffee house is a gem nestled in a historic building in downtown Buchanan. The U always has a great selection of seasonal drinks, baked goods and small plates. The staff is friendly and everything is promptly prepared. There is a great selection of food as well. My favorite was the grilled veggie burrito plate but sadly that is no longer offered. read more

Walking through the alley behind the historic Pears Mill, you glance upon the Union Coffee House and Café on the corner across the street. From the outside, it has the original store front looking like an old bank, with a marble entryway into the café. Once inside there is an eclectic feeling of history, modern café and small town. Being greeted by a nice young lady, I ordered a decaf Americano then chose my favorite seat; a seat with a view of the building across the street that used to be The Eclipse, a Christian Venue/Club that we ran in the early 2000's. It brought back so many great memories of my wife, Dana, my son, Jeremy, and my daughter, Kylie, who we lost in a tragic car accident last year. The Americano soon arrived at my table, easing me out of memory lane. It was served in a coffee cup with a random design which was all part of the eclectic feel. Now, this was not the best americano I have ever had, but it was a good Americano. The barista on staff did not know what a ristretto shot was so comparisons are already off, but the espresso had a smooth flavor with an earthy after-taste that left a turpeny finish on your tongue. I enjoyed my Americano, enjoyed my memories and thanked my barista for an enjoyable afternoon. If you're looking for a friendly, relaxed environment to work or chat with your friends, Union Coffee House and Café is a great option. It is on my Great Coffee House of Michiana list and I will visit again. If you visit, look at the pink building across the street while you sip on your well crated beverage and know that that building is full of great memories for thousands of young adults. read more

So every single time I've been here, which is like 6 times so far, I'm waiting almost 30 minutes for a bagel sandwich. The iced coffee is great. Husbo says the lattes are okay. And the food isn't bad but why am I waiting 30 minutes for bagel sandwich? Or just a panini? I don't get it. I'll keep coming back because, this is the only place in Buchannon that has fresh good food and coffee, but it's super annoying. read more

This is my favorite coffee/breakfast/hang out spot in Buchanan, MI. The atmosphere is very hip and relaxed. This would be a great place to hang out and play board games with a friend while sippin' coffee or to study/work. And, of course, a great place for breakfast. Their Chai Latte is delicious, iced or hot. I tried it twice. I would also recommend the cold brew - you get one free refill! Their veggie wrap was very good, and their bagels were delicious. Friendly staff. They make this space feel welcoming and hip. There is free water available, board/card games, local newspaper, and a list of events happening for the month. The bathrooms are very clean and there's a mirror with sweet, positive messages written on it. Don't know that we'd enjoy Buchanan as much without this place around. Definitely a place you won't want to miss here in Buchanan. read more

It took me a couple tries to find Union. It's located on a corner in the tiny downtown of Buchanan and it's easy to miss, but I am persistent, so I found it! I believe the building is a historical site and you can see those old touches throughout. They do a great job mixing the old and the new though. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, they have a full menu of coffees, smoothies, and sandwiches, with some baked goods sprinkled in there. This is a very chill place where you could do some work, or meet up with friends for lunch. They even have board games for you to sit and play a while. I didn't try any food, coffee was the only thing on my mind. They have more flavors than I've ever seen in a coffee shop. I decided to mix lavender and vanilla. My latte was delicious! If you're feeling adventurous definitely try mixing some flavors! read more

This is an amazing cafe. For two years it's been my favorite place to go and study at while I grab a cup of coffee. The menu is diverse for vegans and vegetarians looking for a great meal for either breakfast or lunch. Great place to hang out or just pick up a to-go order. We were in Buchanan to eat at Wheatberry originally, but it wasn't open until 4 :/ Came here instead after looking on yelp, and I think it was a good choice. It looks like the shop is located in an old bank building. The air conditioner was on high this warm afternoon, and I ended up ordering a mint green tea smoothie and the turkey Gouda wrap with broccoli salad. Yummy smoothie served in a mason jar :) I wanted something light and refreshing for lunch, and they definitely had the type of food I was looking for. If I lived in the area, I would definitely come back for more smoothies. I feel like they're a little on the pricier side for the area, but I'm not from around here, so I found their prices about on par with other coffee shops I've been to. read more

I really liked the natural lighting that was in this coffee shop. I thought the customer service was good too. What I didn't like about the establishment was the drinks. I got a cold brew honey drink and it just tasted like water and honey. I LOVE honey, and I still wasn't impressed. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

There is a great atmosphere at "The U" and there is always great coffee including specific, seasonal coffees that change on occasion. They have a great menu for a good price taking in consideration the small business factor. There is also a nice arrangement of local goods. What a gold mine! We were staying in an Airbnb across the street and were lucky to stumble in to the Union. Not only is it super cute and friendly but the food and drinks are awesome!!! I enjoyed a smoothie bowl for breakfast with a chai tea latte. YUM!!! I devoured every bite!!! I wish I had a cafe like this back on the east coast, but this is reason enough for me to stay in Buchanan again! read more

Unfortunately for me, my experience at this place was not so hot. All was well up until I looked up from taking a bite of my food and I see the barista picking his nose, rubbing his hands together to "clean of" his findings in his nostrils, and then goes straight to coffee machines to keep working on orders. Totally disgusting! Did not even wash his hands!!! Should NOT even be doing that to begin with! And he unfortunately brought my order out to me earlier, so needless to say I did not finish my meal since I was super grossed out. Then, another employee seems to have a chronic cough going on and she was coughing up several times in the coffee bar area and the kitchen. She was also serving food. If she is going to be allowed to work, please wear a mask. Simple hygiene measures and consideration for your customers. read more
