I never know what went into cotton ginning....heck, I didn't know what it was. the museum admission is free, but there is small fee for guided gin tours. Stormee is very knowledgeable and helpful. She showed us a short film depicting the history of the gin and the wonderful folks that ran it There is a little store where you can purchase items - we bought some homemade cinnamon honey. There is a small cotton patch and a path that leads to the gin. You can peak in the see the "Lady B" engine. If you can make it for the 3rd Saturday in April, that's when they have the annual Burton Cotton Gin festival. I bet that is awesome.

The price is definitely worth it. What I loved about this place (besides all the history) were the interactive exhibits. Listening to Sam Houston talked about the revolution and reading the declaration. Learning about what the pioneers had to endure and how they survived was eye opening. I can also see the value of taking the school children here. There is so much to learn and the activities for the kiddos is really cool. On the first floor you are greeted and are given suggestions on where to start in the museum. You watch a welcome video which was nicely done. There is so much to see I don't want to spoil it. You must check this place out for yourself. You won't be disappointed...plan on spending the day! There is a lot to see on this site.

It was a nice stroll. What caught my attention at this museum was the lighted Declaration of Independence. It was so easy on the eyes! A great place to come if you want to spend time thoroughly examining the Declaration of Independence. The battles from the past mentioned here brought some parallels to our current climate and allowed for introspection through more understanding of what happened in the past in this big state of Texas. I particularly liked seeing the Hall of Fame defining and depicting the trailblazers with the Texas Spirit. The Texas Spirit was defined as a determined and independent spirit who take pride in blazing their own trails. One of those featured in the gallery was Governor Ann Richards. Having personally met her at a women's leadership conference moons ago, the memory of moments with her flooded back where she talked about how men were innately more like hunters and focused on one thing, whereas women were multi taskers and gatherers. It was nice to learn about the Texas spirit as well as learn something from history. The learning was to stay kind and learn humility as the video illustrated how Texas could have belonged to Mexico if the cards didn't stack the right way. The battles showed how current leaders could learn from history to create progress.

The admission tickets are so cheap. There's a small gift shop as you enter and start your tour. The overall place isn't as big as you think, you can fly by everything without reading within 20-30mins, but if you wanna stop and read everything then prepare to be there for over an hour. There's a lot of awesome materials and display. I was also told that all the tanks on display are actually operational and every so often are driven outside during events. Definitely recommend to experience this with the family. Lots of cool souvenirs in the gift shop to take home. The staff member is super nice and informational. They give discount to current and former military. The parking is huge so you shouldn't have a problem finding a stall.

Not every exhibit dealt with Texas Independence. There is an amphitheater in the rear of the building, and a great reflection pool at the front of the museum. I knew it was small and not some big museum like some of the others, so maybe my expectations weren't as high as some of the other reviewers prior to going. We got there right as they opened, and we had the place to ourselves for the first hour or so that we were here. My 6 year old loved the play areas, which may not have been as fun if it wasn't just her in the facility. They had a fun paint station and coloring station as well that she had a good time with. The price isn't high, so for what you pay I felt it was definitely worth it and somewhere to burn off some of her energy that didn't involve being outside in the Texas heat and humidity. I'd definitely stop in again if I was in the area and there wasn't many people there.

In addition to a 25-minute video production about the life of President George H.W. Bush (during which I shed a tear), there are more artifacts here than you can shake a stick at. The guides are quite friendly and knowledgeable, and they are prepared to answer questions. During my visit, there were several original artifacts on display, including FDR's speech on Dec. 8, 1941, and Elvis Presley's original enlistment documents. But those are traveling exhibits. There is plenty of Bush family memoriblia to quench your thirst for some up-close history.

I was in College Station over the weekend for a Texas A&M Class of 1980 Reunion, and part of the agenda was paying this place a visit. The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library complex, located on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, includes the Presidential Library and Museum, the Bush School of Government and Public Service, and the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. My visit included the main Museum, a separate building holding the very cool Union Pacific 4141 Engine and the Marine One Helicopter, and the graves of President Bush, his Wife Barbara, and their Daughter Robin. The later involves a pretty walk around a scenic pond (and rose garden area) and onwards to a gated plot within a quiet woodsy area. If Gayle is reading this, of course I also took a look through the gift shop at the end of my visit. I found the main museum to be nicely curated, in chronological order, and with lots of interesting things to learn and remember. I found that I needed at least a couple passes through to help layer my visit. Of particular note (besides the 4141 and Marine One) were exhibits noting the fall of the Berlin Wall, Camp David, the family boat (Fidelity), and the car that the Bush family drove out to Texas for the first time. There was also a special (and worth visiting) exhibit when I was there Music America: Iconic Objects From America's Music History. Also, please don't miss the 22 minute orientation video when you first start in. I found that it really helped set the stage for what was to come at this museum.
