It makes me sad to see this restaurant's parking lot with so few cars when their food is so superior to the one across the street whose lot is full! Last night we dined for the fourth time at the Union Tavern. We got to meet the owner, a charming and friendly woman who made us feel so welcomed. My wife had the Lobster Roll...served on a Brioche hamburger roll rather than the typical New England roll...it was plentiful, cold and delicious as always! Her Merlot was served very generously and she loved it...I'm not a wine fan so I couldn't offer up an opinion. For the first time I had the Grilled Cheese with Tomato and Bacon...so delish as were the Pub Fries that came with it. And best of all, the bill was $30 to $40 less than it would be next door (where we eat quite often) or across the street. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of several other friendly customers and the bar staff. A thoroughly enjoyable Friday night at one of our newest favorite neighborhood-type establishments...please give them a try!! read more

We were very disappointed in the Union Tavern. The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu at all. My friend got the Fish Fry which she said was mostly breading and very greasy. I ordered a ricotta & olive oil dip with Italian bread. Turns out they were out of olive oil and bread, it came dry and with pita chips instead. I sent it back and then had to struggle with the waitress to take it off my bill, since I had never touched the dish. The place feels run down. They had advertised a Fireplace seating. Well, the fireplace was boarded up and had junk in front of it. Arrived around 4:20 Friday night for our first visit. Beautiful old building with ambiance. Large bar seating on first, second floor and outside. No problem getting a table for two. Already knew we were ordering the fish fry because it came with many recommendations, and also tried the lobster bisque. It was thin with no texture of lobster or anything else. Would not order again. Fish fry's came out and they were huge! Pub fries were like steak fries but not thick cut and tartare sauce lemon and coleslaw. Brought a bottle of Malt vinegar to table also which I appreciated. Coleslaw is made with sour cream or it was bad? Didn't eat it. The fish had a really nice tasty crunchy coating, but the grease was evident and they placed it over half the fries which made them soggy. Think they need to change their oil. read more

We thought we would try the Union Tavern tonight on a Friday night. I have heard ads on the radio of how much they would like to host your party, etc and how it has new owner / manager.,. We arrived at 6:00pm (a group of 4) and requested to sit upstairs because it was very noisy on first level. They had no problem with our selecting table on upper level. As we headed upstairs, the stairway was definitely "dated and worn", it looked like they still had Christmas tree decorations out (9perhaps St. Pat's bc they were green). When we wanted to order drinks, two out of four couldn't get the drink (wine) they preferred! Oh well, Rohrbach Scotch ale works... They had no fish fries, but they had haddock (I think that IS a fish) came with rice - not French fries we desired! Supposedly no cole slaw, when we requested it extra, we got about 1/4" of slaw in a miniature container about the size of a thimble!! There was no bread or anything to go with a $10 bowl of chili! The waitress (Ariana) was not very helpful or alert - perhaps bc we were on upper level. While Union Tavern is supposedly "quaint & historic", it is not some place I would recommend, and we do not plan on returning! read more

Went here for the first time since I was a teenager. It has since changed ownership. It's a cool place. It was a little dirty. The tables were sticky and the carpeting was probably the original. So it definitely could use some remodeling but I guess the old vibe goes with the place because It's suppose to be haunted. It's Halloween season so we were hoping to experience something but no luck. I was shocked that they had fish fry's on a Saturday so I tried it and I was not disappointed. The fish was so crispy it was very good. The coleslaw was good and the fries seemed homemade, they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the bonus was they were seasoned really good. SO enjoyed my happy hour drink at Union Tavern! Situated on Culver and directly across from Seabreeze, I took my laptop and sat outside - feeling super jealous of all the folks riding the Jack Rabbit. Union Tavern has a homey/divey feel to it and all of the staff I encountered was attentive, thoughtful, and super kind. The drink list is not overwhelming while still being robust, and caters to that lakeside kind of vibe. You'll find frozen drinks, a small sampling of wine, and ~6 beers on tap with a much larger bottle and can list. I enjoyed a blue moon for $5, with PBRs and Genny being your most economical option. I haven't tried any food items yet, but the menu looks wonderful. With seafood and classic American options, this would be a great spot for family dinner or casual date night. They have fast and free wifi for all my fellow remote workers out there! In the winter time I can totally see myself sitting in their comfy couch area during the day and knocking some work out over some soup. The building will be a work in progress, and there are still some elements of disrepair that are visible. Mussel Chowder Soup and Fried Calamari is so good at the Union Tavern. We stopped in for Sunday afternoon lunch. Good place to chill out, relax, have friendly good service and real good tasting food with a twist on the normal American fair. Good vibes with the lake decor and pub feel. Tables covered in the classic brown paper like you'd find up the New England coast. Fried calamari is seasoned with some pepper which I never had it seasoned with pepper, served in basket cradled in graphic news print paper. Loved the taste and presentation. Clan chowder move aside, as the Union's Mussel chowder is prepared to perfection loaded with mussels, potatoes and seasoned so tasty. Not sure how we also packed in burgers but nevertheless the burgers are so big I couldn't finish mine. Pub fries are a crispy addictive delight. Yum! We will be back. Went here twice over the summer since their reopening. The food and drink menu is pretty good, I had the lobster roll the first time I went back but I wanted to split it with someone so they were very gracious and cut it for us. However I realized I shouldn't have split it cause I wanted more. They didn't skimp on the amount and had a good mixture with the Mayo not too much. The fries were also pretty flavorful. The food came out quick but we were also the only ones sitting at the bar at the time on an off time in the afternoon. It was during covid restrictions and they just opened up so I'm sure that is also why. They have been great both visits with keeping people safe. Had to wear the Masks and kept people distant so I felt safe. Next time i went little more people were there so they ran out of the lobster roll thinking I'd get a full one that time. Decided to get the crab cakes and fries. These were also very good but almost wish they were on a bun or something. I had salad underneath so it was healthier and still good so it wouldn't mask the flavorful taste. The margarita was also amazing, nice and strong with the alcohol which made it feel worth it. What a fantastic place! The new owners really deep cleaned and changed a lot about this place to make it comfortable and cozy. My friends and I came for "dinner and ghost stories" and were not disappointed! The food and drinks are a steal, and delicious! Two drinks were only 12 bucks which is great compared to the other joints i go to and i got top wine. Check out my photos of the food... everything we got was amazing. The Union tavern host a lot of fun and unique parties. I can't wait to come back for the mediums that they have come here or even just for dinner! I must try the salmon and the bone in tomahawk! I live about a mile away from here, and never stopped in when it was The Reunion, so my husband and I made it a point to check it out The Union Tavern! We went around 7ish on a Friday, so before the bar crowd showed up. I ordered the Union burger with pub fries - delicious!!! Their pub fries are like crispy potato slices, and I could have filled myself up on just those! I also enjoyed a nice Prosecco & peach drink (I cannot remember the name of it, but it was fabulous!) My husband ordered the fish fry with fries, and he said it was one of the top 3 he has had locally. This means a lot coming from my husband, a self proclaimed Fish Fry-onnaire Do yourself a favor and get down to the Union Tavern, you won't regret it! This place has managed to either stay open or reopen with all the crazy covid crap. They took over part of their parking lot in order to expand their outdoor seating area, limited their menu to keep food coming out quick and on time and are really making the situation work for them. We had an awesome meal here the only sad part was sitting across from an amusement park that had no people in it. Drinks were good, I had a whiskey coke. The app was ok, comes with grilled bread that was not enough based on the amount of dip and also tasted burnt. Not inedibly so but def not yummy. Chicken riggies was solid and the fish fry was pretty good. Was not a fan of the slaw. Prices were ok, not great not horrible. if they were a bit cheaper wed probably go a lot more often. So, I waited a day to see if I felt differently, I don't. Ordered 2 fish frys for 5:30 takeout @4pm. Arrived on time and waited until 5:50 to get it and the place was far from full. Although the portion was nice, it was greasy leading to indigestion for hours, and needed to be trimmed. The fries were good but the half portion of slaw (really ya saved a nickel) tasted weird and think they must have changed a good recipe, also forgot to include one tarter sauce portion. Heads up guys, you need to fix this if you expect return customers which for me and wife wont be soon which is sad after supporting you since your purchase and Barney since the 70's. Tonight was my first night trying Union Tavern, hands down one of the best meals I've ever eaten out. The burger was cooked perfectly to what I had asked for, and their fries are out of this world. We had a decent sized group and everyone was raving about their meals. The atmosphere made it a place you don't want to leave. First time here since under new ownership and a noticeable difference from the old spot, in a good way. No longer a dive bar but a destination for good drinks, good food and good times. Lots of dietary options and variety. We enjoyed the portobello fries, meatballs, mussel chowder, and fried cauliflower entree. Service was a little slow for a quiet night but friendly and worth the wait. One person at our table had a burger and did not enjoy their dish, a burger from a place like this should be better but maybe was an off night. Nothing to stop us from going back again. I was just simply not having a good day at all so instead of cooking we decided to go out. Been wanting to try this place so we went for a nice 6pm dinner. We start with drink I order a beer in a can she brings a glass perfect. Wife ordered a pink lemonade. When she brought it out it definitely not pink lemonade. Peach something? Ordered fried ravioli as an app and the table next to us which ordered after us got their food first. Oh no big deal. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch sandwich which was really good. (The only reason for this high of a review) my wife's chicken Caesar wrap was very dry. Just chicken lettuce and very little cheese. Very little dressing. The fries were terrible. The worst fries I've had in awhile. Greasy and not fires at all. All odd sizes so you get some that are rock he'd and crispy others huge and okay. Our little guy was not a fan either. He would much rather eat the tomato off my sandwich than these fries that's how bad they were, and I'm right with him! Our meal was $45 with no left overs to take home. Which I guess was kinda high but if the fries and other things were better I wouldn't be so mad about it. I forgot to mention our waitress was shouting the whole time. Screaming at us. In the summer, my husband and I sat outside and had one of the best fish fry ever. The piece of fish was large and hot and the French fries were battered and served hot. So we went again this past Friday because all the restaurants in Rochester are closed to dine in, only to experience quite the opposite. Had to wait until we were able to get to the side streets because Sea Breeze FD was holding a stationary parade at Sea Breeze Park and there was a long line of cars on Culver Rd- not Union Tavern's fault of course. Our waitress was very nice . Wish I could say the same about our meal. Our fish was soggy and warm just like the French fries. We were very disappointed to say the least. This was a huge let down. The website was not even close to what you get. Make no mistake, this is a bar. We were seated between an atm and a juke box. They claim New England atmosphere but aren't even the slightest. The cook had to come out to see how to make what I ordered. I ordered the house special. Wow. Went there with a couple of friends for dinner recently. I ordered the fish fry. The fish was super fresh, lightly battered and delicious. On the downside, the fries were overcooked (too hard and crunchy). Why do restaurants put a fried piece of fish on top of the fries????? It's a side. Put them on the side. I didn't like the coleslaw and tartar sauce and was surprised that kind of restaurant would serve them in plastic take out containers. I took my sister-in-law here for her birthday, as she has been going to this location for eons on this occasion. This was her first visit under the new ownership. The staff was incredibly friendly! The outdoor area was bustling with activity, laughter and general good vibes. This place appears to be very dog-friendly and we were greeted warmly by several well-behaved pooches and their peoples. Inside, we took a seat at the bar had a cocktail and were soon seated. We had the Rib-eye steaks and holy crap, Batman! Fantastic!
