I did not really expected anything besides a nice hour or so, but it was really great. The salon is located in Chapelizod so I was not familiar with the area but it is not very far from Phoenix Park and can be easily reached by the bus 66 from the city centre; if you're driving, there is free parking right in front. I booked beforehand and the service was attentive and polite, followed by a text confirming the booking, date and address with bus/routes tips. Nice touch! Getting there, they are located inside an artificial tanning establishment called "Sun beds". The place is small but it does the job well. There are the usual gossip magazines - which I gladly skip - and some comfy seating while you wait. I saw that they do several promotions, display products for sale and that the environment is relaxed. There were 2 people working; a man and a woman. It seemed a bit unusual but the man was doing feet treatment in several woman and he seemed very professional. After 15 mins wait I was greeted by Gemma. She was very friendly and very well-mannered. As I had arrived a bit earlier she decided to help me then, leaving her break for later; even though I said she did not have to do it and I could wait but she gladly did it, again being very professional. She took me to a corner where they have a massage bed (those with a whole to pop your head through......i'd love one of those for myself!) and a thin blanket. She massaged my feet with nice oils and fragrances and wrapped them in hot mittens and left it heating up for about 20 mins - it was soft and warm. Meanwhile she showed me the colours that were available for the tint process and applied it all very slowly and carefully. I had a full head/scalp massage - which stimulates hair growth - and my brows were trimmed just the way I normally do it - as she was asking if it was okay for me every now and then with the mirror. Also some more essential oils and a lovely mist were sprayed on my face right after the exfoliation. During the whole time I had headphones on with relaxing music to help me chill out. By the time you are thinking "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I want this to last forever" it is over...I was feeling energized and happy. She gave me their price list and 2 cards that I can give to people I refer and they can get a massage/hot mittens/pedicure treatment for 39 euro. Plus she gave me plenty of water advising me to drink more and more at home as the massage tends to make your body really need the 2 litres a day. Lovely experience and I can't recommend it more!

Well its the place I freqeunty probably the most and I'm a big fan of Carlisle. Its a great gym, always busy, with big changing rooms which are kept clean, with staff always available and ready to help. With the pool in the middle (no under 16's allowed) to divide the main hall up a huge range of Carido machines; treadmills,bikes, elliptical and machines which I use but don't know the name of. Also plenty of weights gear too. Theres also a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi in the pool area. As well as this theres classes, personal, trainers, a small café area, that doesn't have a café but has coffee machines and snacks. And theres a barbers, beauty salon,spa and hairdressers.As as result its very busy, but off peak its normally fine and the place is so well stocked you'll always get a machine. At the moment they're offering membership at €295 for 18 months, take that Westwood.

However, there are few issues. First I'll say what's GOOD about Carlisle. It's massive and it has more cardio and weight machines than any other gym I've ever visited. It offers a full range of fitness and well-being services: a swimming pool, sauna and steam room, yoga and spinning classes, a supplement store, sandwich bar and lounge, spa treatments and hair styling for both men and women. Its prices are the most affordable on the market. Annual membership for one person is about €235, waaay below what other less equipped clubs are offering. Which basically explains my first problem: Carlisle is full of scangers.....hard-faced, foul-mouthed, macho-swaggering, tattooed, Fred Perry-wearing SCANGERS. You might think I'm a bit of a snob, but until you've witnessed a knife fight in a changing room (I kid you not) or listened to their bovine banter reverberating through the showers, you might want to hold that criticism. The knife incident aside, mostly it's just annoying and lowers the tone somewhat, but that's what happens when prices are this low. Haha...I AM a snob :P. The other point I wanted to raise is about the staff, specifically the male staff, discounting one or two. Their attitude can be apathetic, cold and abrasive; they have a smarmy cliquishness about them, much like high school jocks and aren't very approachable. I also don't appreciate their obvious resentment of people who train late. I often go at 9pm and leave at 10pm closing, simply to avoid the rush hour. They stomp around the place banging weights down on racks as if to say "get the hell out already!" which I don't appreciate. However, these are only a specific few. The last thing is a more recent issue. The new spinning classes are held in the middle of the gym floor and are obnoxiously loud. Saturday morning training is almost unbearable now thanks to the overwhelming cacophony of blaring dance music and Nazi-like yelling. Sometimes it's so loud I can't even hear my iPod. I've just learned to go at different times to try and avoid it, but it's still really annoying and inconsiderate. Those gripes aside, you won't find facilities like this for such good value! The hairdressers can do or fix any hair colours, styles or cuts you might desire. I had been searching for years to find a salon that could give me the perfect blonde as my hair is so dark. These girls looked at my hair and within 5 minutes had told me what I needed and said it would not be a problem. You also do not break the bank going here and as the upkeep on my particular hairstyle requires me to visit the salon once every month I love the atmosphere along with paying a reasonable rate. The entire salon from clients and hairdressers are engaged in interesting conversation as it is a very relaxed and girly environment. Every once in a while the beautician might throw in a free treatment if you are waiting for a colour which is an added bonus. The lady that owns this place "Tish" is one of the most professional and nicest people you will meet and I love when she advises on product etc as she is always spot on with everything. Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

I need to update this review with major news!…read more After a hard training, I usually go as far as the shower and don't even take the time to dry my hair before I go home. This time I felt like pushing my boundaries, wearing my bikini in public, and going to the spa. 1* For the spa: It's called spa but it's basically a huge swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jaccuzzi, and tropical showers - meaning different water temperature. The place is warm - not too warm ! - and clean. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to hygiene and this place has my stamp of approval. 1* For the sauna: Dry heat as you would expect. The interior is made of wood and the heat place is made of stones. There are 3 different levels and - of course - as the heat goes up the highest seats are warmer. It's not too hot so you can have a good sweat. Don't stay too long though and do not wear jewelry - you will get burnt. 1* For the showers: I love to alternate sauna / medium heat shower to cold / steam room. Some people like to take a cold shower right away but I don't appreciate the extreme change in temperature. I go for medium heat shower and possibly cold after that, it has to be step by step. 1* For the steam room: What a great sensation to be in a steam room! The heat and humidity is no overwhelming and that's a plus. You can't stay very long - as per usual - but you can still handle a good moment. Also there is an ambiance music played in the room to help fully relax. This place is a treat ! You eliminate the bad toxines in your body, you work on your breathing system, and you relax all at once. I haven't tried the swimming poor nor the jaccuzzi but that should happen very soon. 1* For the hair dryer: OMG Those hair dryers are so amazing it only take a few minutes to get my hair completely dry. And my hair is long to my waist. And not easily cooperative when it comes to drying! I need to take a picture of how everything is set up, but in short you can find 4/5 hair dryers and 1 hair straightener along a long mirror. You have space to put your brush or other hair/make-up products and get ready. Even when it's busy girls always make space for one another. Very friendly changing room ! 1* For the free trial: I asked for a few trial tickets for my boyfriend. They couldn't give any because this gets sent from the headquarter. At first I thought it was a bummer but then I remembered that a couple of months ago I received free trial tickets by post and a 5 day pass as well ! Should I remove a star ? It's true there should be more flexibility on that aspect but on the other hand they send a lot of incentives by post. I leave this star for now :D 1* For the beauty centre: Today I noticed a new poster in the entrance promoting a new beauty centre. Opening soon facilities for waxing, semi-permanent make-up, manicure, and pedicure. There was something else but I don't remember...
