I wound not go back to Uniquely cats. Their charges are incredibly high compared to most veterinary clinics. My initial visit with labs was just over $900. The lab fees are expensive and the initial visit fee was double then what they quoted me over the phone. The doctor was nice but after all that I still did not have answers as to what caused my cats condition. I took him somewhere for his dental procedures, another issue, since the quotes they gave me we more then double then what i ended up paying at another clinic in Broomfield. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET! Only focus on diet for car and exam room are NOT cat friendly. These vets are incompetent and the only thing this vet focuses on is diet. I know diet is important, but any medical care, for animals or humans, should take a holistic approach. Diet is part of the care. But there was no conversation about exercise, keeping kitties mental engaged, or other aspects of care. I know cats are obligate carnivores and ideally should eat as such. And I went to this vet to try and figure out some affordable options for changing their diets. I said this upfront. And instead of talking with me about options and trying to figure out a plan that worked for my budget, they continued on their pitch as to why cats should eat all protein diets. It felt like a cult. They shamed me for what I feed my cat and if you rad the other reviews this seems to be common practice. Shame does not get people to change. My girl cat is 12 old and I think is starting to have some arthritis. I wanted to learn more about any supplements or exercise to avoid. What options do we have? And the vet went back to food is the only way to fix this. They did not address my concerns or share options. Then they started talking about vaccines and it bordered on vaccine hesitance. They tired to discourage me from updating their rabies and other vaccines. What the actual....They said that vaccines can have negative impacts. Yes, we know this from the science, but also if my cats get rabies they are dead. I have PhD in scientific research. While I am not a vet, I have high science literacy. I said I needed to see the research around why cats shouldn't get booster for rabies and other disease. They couldn't cite any peer reviewed papers or the peer reviewed journals this one paper was published in. I said this was the first I was hearing of this, and they tired to suggest that most vets are not as educated as they are. Wow. That is some woo-woo, anti-science bullshit. Additionally, the exam rooms are NOT cat friendly. So while they were giving their hour long pitch around how food is the only way to solve health issues, which I said multiple times I don't need the pitch I need help figuring out a plan, my poor kitties were having a melt down. The room was noisy and cold. There is a huge window and a glass-door in the exam rooms facing a hallway so any time someone walked by my cats got more scared. The hallway outside of the exam room was very loud, so any time someone talked in the hallway my cats also had a negative reaction. My girl kitty is very curious and outgoing and once she has time to get adjusted, does well in an quite exam room. She was shaking. I have never seen her so sacred in my life. This was the worst vet experience I have ever had and nearly the worst visit to a so-called medical expert. Stay away! read more

I've never left a review before, but I had such a bad/weird experience at this vet that I'm leaving one. Overall: The vet would not give my healthy 4 month old kitten his first rabies vaccination without $500 worth of blood tests first. HES A KITTEN and this was a general kitten appointment, $500 bloodwork for a HEALTHY kitten is not the standard of care. I was also told that a raw food diet was the only thing I should feed my cat, and all other cat food is "poison". Any questions I asked about teeth cleaning, growth, skin, etc. she insisted that a raw diet would "fix everything" and gave me no other advice. Raw food is not an affordable option for me, and I already feed my cats high end high protein food. The vet tech and other staff were lovely and kind to me and my kitten. But I was uncomfortable, guilted about what I feed my cats, and didn't receive any reasonable advice from this vet. I should have read the other bad reviews because they align exactly with my own experience. More detailed review below: I made a standard kitten appointment for my 4 month old kitten, to get his shots and general information to keep him happy and healthy. My parents and I have owned more than 10 cats and we know them well. My parents and I are also educated and scientifically literate. Multiple things she told me to do for my healthy kitten I had never heard from another vet before. They would not give my kitten his first rabies vaccine without a full panel of blood work. I was told it was very likely he would get sick if they did the vaccine without blood work to see if he has any underlying issues. He is a healthy kitten, he has had no vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc. He's also been seen by another veterinary clinic that confirmed he is healthy. When I asked how much it would cost she said $500. I want my kitten to be as healthy as possible, but I am not spending $500 on blood work if there is nothing wrong with my cat. Additionally no other vets I have seen have suggested blood work before vaccines could be administered or denied my cat a rabies vaccine because blood work hadn't been done before hand. Generally it is not the standard of care. It is a very standard shot that all house cats get! (I also did not want to sign a form to get the shot, that said I was doing it against doctor's orders. And if he got sick they were faultless.) At this point I already didn't trust the vet so I am glad I denied both the blood work and shot. The vet lectured and pushed about diet for an hour. How raw food is the only thing I should be feeding my cats and that everything else was "poison" (yes their exact words). I get that kibble is not good for cats, that they are obligate carnivores, and need a very high protein diet. I feed both my cats Weruva and Nulo and make sure that the main ingredients are pure proteins, with no additives that are inflammatory to their GI tract. I'm a college student and my cats eat top of the line food that is more expensive than my own. But raw food diet for 2 cats is not an affordable option for me. Lots of cats live healthy and happy lives without raw food. Every time I asked a question about his skin, teeth cleaning, growth, etc. they insisted that a raw diet would "fix everything". There are other educated answers and suggestions that a vet can make that aren't just: feed your cat a raw diet. Overall I left the office with a weird feeling about the vet and that they were trying to push me to spend money on unnecessary tests. Other than that the vet techs and other staff were lovely and kind to me and my kitten. However, I feel the advice of the vet was biased, forceful, and centered around making money. Our cats see the same veterinarian every time, so there is consistency in their visit. Along with great care, we get an extremely detailed report. The office itself, is very attractive, clean and a calm atmosphere and they only see cats, so no disturbing barking! It doesn't smell medicinal like some offices I've been in the past. BE WARNED. I had such high hopes for healing my senior cat's (15 y/o) sinus infection and getting him on his way to improved health through holistic nutrition at our initial visit last week. Instead I received the highest bill I've ever seen for an initial vet visit and senior bloodwork panel at over $600. SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS!! Was told they wouldn't treat his sinus infection because the root cause was a bad upper molar. So I needed to get my cat in for a full dental right away with a cost estimate of $2,500 - $5,400. READ THOSE NUMBERS AGAIN. ABSURD. My cat got so much sicker over the next couple of days as his sinus infection went into his chest. Took him immediately to urgent care and got the antibiotic he needed. The urgent care vet also said it would be dangerous to perform a dental procedure on a him with an active upper respiratory infection. I'm disgusted by the unscrupulous gouging of pet parents by vets who are in it for the BUCKS. Uniquely Cats: you should be ashamed of yourselves. Do not reply to this post stating you're sorry I didn't have a better experience and that I should call your office to discuss further. If you want this review to go away, then refund me half or better of what I paid you for absolutely NOTHING. I was quoted over the phone that the initial visit would be $200 and possible bloodwork an additional $100. Still too high but I agreed to that. BAIT AND SWITCH. SHAME ON YOU. I normally don't do reviews, especially negative reviews, but I just had to for this. I came in to see Dr. Gajowniczek for my 4 year old cat, after years of no vets saying something I was doing was wrong, and was met with lectures of how I have been harming my cat by what I've been feeding her. It felt like either I got on their diet program or I was a terrible cat parent, who was hurting their cat and they will probably die early. I tried to explain I just didn't know and she said, "we're heard all the excuses." Those weren't excuses, I really didn't know about any of it, and no other vet I've seen in her 4 years of life has talked about it. Additionally, I travel for work often, and she said that the cat sitter should come twice a day for the new wet food diet. What if I was someone who couldn't afford that? Now because of my financial status, I'm a terrible cat parent because I can't afford what's needed to keep my cat from being sick and dying early. Everything about the visit screamed complete apathy, minus the lovely vet techs and reception staff, who were amazing. There needs to be a middle ground for people in different stages of life. It can't just be "do this or your cat will be sick and die early, and you're a terrible owner". There needs to be empathy, looking at the whole picture of both the cat's as well as the owner's life, and how you can work with that. If the "enthusiasm" or "passion" for the cats health can be come off as abrasive, to not just me but others, you have communication issues. You're not talking to the cat, you're talking to the owner, and if you can't speak to the owner without being abrasive, you should reevaluate how you communicate to others to find a better approach to getting a message across. Being "enthusiastic" doesn't excuse perceived apathy and patronizing rhetoric. Do better. read more

This is the second visit now where my old many baby pooed and made a mess of himself. The place is nice, and much of the staff is great. But I found Dr. Fern Slack to be arrogant to the point of it being a medical liability. Multiple times there were basic communications errors. Staff even told me that they agreed with me on important points, but were unable to get through to Dr Fern who had already made up her mind (incorrectly as it later turned out). Following moving to a new vet: One of the drugs Dr Fern had put my cat on was causing HARM and had to be immediately stopped. And another procedure that UCV has quoted me $X was less than half the price at the new, better vets. When doctors are so certain of their diagnoses that they refuse to hear other evidence--the result is what happened in this case: my cat's health was put at continued risk. I took my sick cat there and spent 900.00 for them to tell me that feeding my cat what all the "zombies" has been taught to feed him like wet cst food and dry kibble is causing gut inflammation. that inflammation is going all over causing fevers and vomiting and my poor boys nasal discharge. My roommate came home from her appointment in tears after being berated by the vet/techs at this clinic. She is a first-time cat owner and was hanging on their every word about how she would kill her kitty by feeding him dry food/ anything but a raw diet. I have never owned a cat, but having a dog, I knew the vet is never a pleasurable experience but should be far from traumatic. We wish we had read the reviews for this clinic before because the negative ones couldn't have more accurately described her experience. My roommate had no other experience with going to a vet, and when she told me that during her 45 min wait in the office, more than a few lab techs would come in and play with her cat despite his crying and obvious distress from his over-stimulation, I was appalled. This was also obviously what happened based on his behavior when he got home, hiding under the bed for about 4 hours with barely a peep. After just getting home from a far more professional vet clinic, Alpine Hospital for Pets, and getting twice the shots than at Uniquely, he is already back to his usual self. He is eating and happily playing with his toys (the things that took hours for him to adjust to after his visit to Uniquely). I am writing this review for the other first-time pet owners to hopefully not go through the same thing my roommate did and not to get a passive-aggressive, unprofessional response from the business owner. ( I am also appalled by the replies I have read from the business owner revealing personal information about patient visits. TL;DR Another vet told me they were downright dangerous after my cat had an upper respiratory infection which they didn't catch because they attribute every single problem to food and prescribed a medication that would've made it worse I was previously very much on board with this cat vet. However, I took my cat in for an unwell visit due to vomiting and lethargy -- very unusual for him -- and just got the same spiel about diet and a $1,000 bill for multiple panels, one of which was GI. I agreed to this bill because I want the best for him. There was no mention of imaging even when I raised concerns about a blockage. She felt his abdomen and said it was tender but didn't do any further examination; she barely touched him. When I got the results of his panels, however, the vet had included the names of multiple other pets not my own, which confused me about the results and made me worry that they had messed up his tests. I raised that concern and was assured all the medicine was correct, along with a dismissive sentence about how they use templates because it would be too much to write every synopsis by hand, essentially admitting to copy pasting the same raw-food agenda for most patients. I've worked in communication and am very familiar with the necessity of templates, obviously, but it's unacceptable not to check over those templates each and every time you write them out when dealing with people in sensitive, emotional settings. Just don't use names in your templates and you can avoid causing already upset owners more stress. She did apologize, which I appreciate, but since it was multiple pets' names, I got the sense they've done this to multiple other pet parents. The vet also said she needed to take a break for the day after my email in a joking tone, which to me indicated that she probably shouldn't have been analyzing his results on the weekend when they're closed. I'd rather wait another day on results than receive results that distress me because I don't even know if they belong to my cat. The results email was also pages and pages long; you might think this much information would be good, but it was incredibly overwhelming and felt extremely impersonal compared to the phone call you would typically get from a vet. Even the vet I saw after said that so much information overload isn't helpful to non-experts who need it explained in clear, simple terms. Fast forward to today; I take my cat to an urgent vet bc he's started showing new symptoms. They do a much more thorough PHYSICAL exam instead of just asking about his food. He has an upper respiratory infection that requires antibiotics, the vomiting likely caused by stress from that, and the medication that UC wanted to give him (steroid) would've actually made the infection they missed worse and more dangerous by suppressing his immune system. Thank god I didn't fill it before getting a second opinion. She recommended imaging if the vomiting came back as it went away. The vet at the urgent care specifically mentioned that Uniquely Cats is not a good vet and they attribute every single problem to food. In fact, she said it was NOT a good idea to change my cat's food, especially right now, when UC told me that I should change his food ASAP, even "out stubborning" him if he refused to eat for a few days. All while he's sick. She's warned other patients about them. $180 visit including meds. The vet also added that all-wet diets/raw diets weaken cats' jaws and increase their risk of oral cancer -- never heard that mentioned by UC. Cats need a mix of food they have to chew and hydration. If credible vets in the area say this one's dangerous -- listen. And I can already predict their response to this: "Most vets are not as educated as we are, the vet made an honest mistake that's not important, and cat medicine is inherently more expensive." Don't bother; I don't feel like being gaslit today because, you know, my cat is sick. P.S. The responses to their reviews are flat out lies. They do not work with individuals for budget and needs; they give you a packet that they give to everyone. read more

I am so happy to have found this place! My cats are my babies and I want nothing but the best for them. As a life-long cat owner, I have been to multiple vet clinics and even worked in one. I have very high standards and Uniquely Cats ticks all the boxes. Dr. Fern took the time to answer all of my pressing questions. She did not just tell me to feed a certain diet but explained exactly what cats need and why they should and shouldn't be eating certain foods. The exam was 90 minutes long, which I really appreciated. Dr. Fern genuinely loves cats and knows them inside and out. The staff is super nice and very responsive to e-mails. I believe that if I had taken my cat to a different veterinary clinic, she would have had a longer and healthier life. The previous clinic seemed more concerned with what she ate than her actual health issues, and did not conduct thorough testing. When I sought a second opinion from another vet, they discovered many underlying health problems that were not previously diagnosed. Though we did all we could, my cat eventually succumbed to her illness. I suggest that the clinic should focus more on investigating the root cause of illnesses in their patients, instead of talking to customers about unrelated topics such as the kibble industry. read more

We boarded our cat after being evacuated from the fires outside Boulder. We provided food along with a food and water bowl for our cat when dropping her off. While there we decided to proceed with over $4,000 in dental surgery for the cat. The dental care was excellent, however the customer service and care for customer's exposure to COVID is horrendous. When picking up the cat the bowls could not be located. We provided photos, asked multiple staff members and were offered a replacement over the phone but when we arrived to get a replacement for our only set of bowls were told since the bowls weren't documented it was our fault. So now it's another COVID exposure risk as we make a trip to Petco to replace the only set of bowls. After giving you $4,000 in business you don't even have the decency to replace bowls you lost. You clearly don't care about your customers or about putting them in harms way into another store for a mistake that was your fault. Will not be coming back. read more

My cat is special needs too so I want to be confident in the care that she receives. I had a few concerns that I wish were addressed a bit more but, overall, I was very satisfied with the full care she received. We both were very grateful for the examination rooms and the general reading of my cat. The examination rooms are welcoming and she felt comfortable in it. My cat gave a bit of an attitude while her blood was drawn and they seemed receptive to her discomfort. Definitely sticking with this one for my little girl. read more

Uniquely Cats literally saved two of our cats lives. one of our cats was wasting away, losing weight, hair falling out (see before/after pics), and had chronic bowel issues. We brought her to UC and it was amazing how much their team cares. I am extremely happy with Uniquely cats. I was struggling to find a reliable, unbiased vet when I first adopted my cat. I have been taking my bengal here the past couple years and I always leave satisfied with their care. I appreciate the fact that they don't push certain pet brands just because those brands pay them. They genuinely care and will give you many different diet options in different price ranges. They are also very clear and honest about costs. As well, they never push for testing or procedures just to make more money off the patient which I have seen many vets do. I fully trust them with my cat's health. My Maine Coon kitty recently had a bladder obstruction, which is life threatening. I took him to an ER because it was the middle of the night. He seemed to be worse the next day. So I took him to Uniquely because I was so incredibly worried and scared. The ER and my regular vet said he would most likely need surgery. Dr. Fine took us right away. She gave Henry different medications and spent and hour and a half telling us why this happened. It made complete sense to me. We have been home for a few days with a complete plan and already Henry is not only himself, but is purring and seems happier than he was when he was a kitten!! I just wonder how long he has been in pain and I didn't even know it. I was even feeding him the most expensive raw food out there, but doing all the wrong things because we are SO misinformed. We are so fortunate to have this medical, supportive, and wholistic facility in our town. I honestly don't know what I would have done without Dr. Fine and the team at UC. They are ALL extraordinary. I wish I would have taken him for a wellness checkup here instead of my other vet in the beginning. This probably never would have happened. I am just blown away by this place I could cry. I've had a series of awful experiences with vets in my lifetime. When your animal is sick you feel helpless. It cant talk and tell you what its feeling. You would expect a little empathy. Well I'd had enough and decided to take a coworker's recommendation to check out Uniquely being that they specialize in cats only! My cat is highly aggressive with vets btw so it's always an ordeal. We showed up promptly at 8a and were immediately greeted at the door where kitty was collected. About 15 minutes later the doctor called and we chatted. It was the loveliest most informative, educational conversation I've had about cats! I wish I recorded it lol. Dr Goodrich was passionate, knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. I wish they had a sister vet that serviced dogs. When I went to collect him the sweet lady dropping him off took her time to talk to me about diet suggestions. Oh and she was just snuggling with my "aggressive" cat lol. I received an email later (on a Sunday!). The level of detail and care is like nothing I've ever seen, and so incredibly personalized noting behavior observations. What a beautiful holistic approach. I was and still am impressed with Dr. Slack. I brought her a case of a young kitty with very vague symptoms that often led to lethargy, not eating and reclusiveness. After 5 previous vets ; who offered me massive surgeries, prescription diets, putting my mostly playful cat to sleep; I decided I wanted a "cat only vet" who could under stand nuances to help me get my cat healthy. We talked for over an hour and a half and I heard her passion with science to back it up about nutrition and what she noticed about my cat. Dr Slack encouraged me to rethink kitty diet and then with a clean slate to see IF my cat still needs treatment. She is grassroots thinking without "Big Pharma" running her ship. We took our cat here a few days after she was sick from an infection. Our experience was there was a lot of upselling. 1. trying to sell us on an FELV test when we knew she was FELV+ when she was adopted (and she lived for 2 years in the shelter with direct contact with several FELV+ cats that entered and left the shelter as they were adopted). 2. trying to get us to do expensive GI tract testing (probably because she already had very recent bloodwork, so that wasn't going to happen) 3. pressuring us to allow our cat to be sedated by saying she was hissing in the waiting area (super unlike our cat who had recently seen 3 other vets, her regular vet, then one to obtain a CVI for crossing state lines, then another emergency vet when she initially got the infection). we said no to sedation and refused to be pressured. the vet later said our cat was perfectly fine being handled, as expected. 4. vet tried to prescribe appetite stimulants in order to encourage our cat to adopt an all wet food diet (our cat generally prefers dry food and often leaves a lot of wet food uneaten, though we offer it 2x a day). our previous emergency vet was reluctant when I originally asked about stimulants because they are antidepressants. when I brought this up the uniquely cats vet backed down YMMV, but beware. read more

I found Uniquely Cats shortly after moving to Boulder and never looked back. You can tell from the moment you walk in the front door that this is a different kind of veterinary clinic -- aside from their sole focus on cats, which is a relief in a dog-first town, it is full of soft and padded surfaces to help keep your cat calm and comfortable during your visit. This extends to the examination rooms as well, which are a far cry from the sterile lab-type environments I have grown to expect. The folks here have a strong and food-centered philosophy about cat health, and I'll be honest, their advice sometimes differs from more traditional small animal vets. It took me a while to trust them with my cat Cicero's well-being, but I am so glad I did. Last year, Dr Goodrich and the great staff at UC helped support me and my cat through a terrible emergency surgery and stressful, month-long recovery process. Though the surgery was done elsewhere, they fielded many late emails and panicked phone calls from me to make sure I had the medications and treatment plan I needed, and even asked me to bring in Cicero for a complimentary (!!) check-up to make sure he was recovering smoothly. I've recently moved away from Boulder and I am very sad that I can't take Uniquely Cats with me. All pet owners have some degree of irrationality when it comes to their furry friends; I can't promise you that UC will always do everything right or that you will never have disagreements with them, but I can promise you that they will genuinely care about both you and your animal and always try to do what's in the best interest of both. A bit extreme on their COVID restrictions at this point in the game (05-25-2021). Everyone seemed knowledgable and pleasant. The behavior towards my cat was reasonable and not overly "precious". The requirement of a full exam in order to board my cat seemed excessive to me. I only agreed because I was having no luck finding another place. I did not particularly appreciate the up-sell tactics, but I have also experienced worse. My overall impression was slightly positive. They appeared to listen to what I told them about my cat. read more

This is just a wonderful establishment with warm hearts, compassion and a very competent Dr. (Goodrich). May expand on this review after some further grieving from the recent loss of my pet, but thankfully Veterinarians exist like this place does. I have recently moved into the Boulder area and needed a good vet for my senior cat who hasn't been feeling too well. Uniquely Cats was recommended to me by my Pet Sitter and I am glad I went to there. The office is very clean, stylish and catered for Cats to enjoy. The visit with the doctor is anything but rushed. I have never had such a thorough visit for my cat in the 12 years that I've had him. Everything about his lifestyle was discussed and addressed for his exam as well as a thorough overview of his medical history. Dr. Fine was super informative and helped me figure out a procedure plan that would work for my cat and my budget. I will be using Uniquely Cats as my Vet going forward. My cat is way better after his visit. read more

I wanted to take my cat for a wellness visit and ended up spending $700 on lab tests and other crap I realized my cat didn't really need until later. To be honest, I really felt pressured into saying yes for my cat to have these tests because I didn't want to look like a bad owner. They also pressured me to sedate my cat cause she was hissing, which was $30 more to my bill, and on top of that, the vet proceeded to add these anxiety pills onto my bill for the next visit. I said no she does not need those, but they were doing everything they can to make more money. None of the problems I came in with were addressed. Instead, they spent an hour telling me what to feed my cat, then saying she needs to be tested for all this stuff. I took their advice on their recommended diet for my cat, it did not make a difference whatsoever. All of my friends and family said I was robbed and should dispute the charges, I don't know if that is possible, but please take my advice and do not go here. My kitty's previous vet was a lot better and affordable, and when they pulled the majority of her teeth it was around $1,000. This place wants to pull out two remaining teeth and wants to charge anywhere $1,500-$3,000. I really feel like this place just wants to make money and does not care about our furry babies, and they really pressure you into spending more money. read more

It went well. It's a weird dynamic with the COVID precautions. I feel the vet appointment went very smoothly with my cats also. I appreciate that my cats are treated so well and that the vets & vet techs take the utmost care of making them comfortable. It's good that everything was able to be done in the room that my cats were in, so they didn't move them around too much because the cats were so scared. read more

I wish there were more stars to give to this amazing establishment! This Cats Only vet clinic has been designed to offer both felines and their humans the best possible experience. My rescue cat had been repeatedly traumatized by the time she came home with me, and had made it perfectly clear that no one was going to clip her claws. So I was desperate for help but anxious that I would further traumatize her by a visit to a vet. Many bloody scratches later we braved the drive from Longmont and entered the quiet hush of Uniquely Cats. We were shown to the perfect Laurel Burch themed enclosure in which to allow a curious cat to explore. Dr. Fern came in and spoke to us for quite awhile before she even approached Bella. She then performed the most adept examination of a cat that I have ever witnessed. Bella wasn't overjoyed but Dr. Fern's gentle but firm handling got the job done without a single vocal protest. The education about the pet food industry that Dr. Fern provided is so critical for the well being of our pets and is mostly unavailable on the internet. I knew that a good quality raw diet was highly recommended but I didn't know that it is close to mandatory if you wish to spare your cat from a host of chronic diseases. I was given a list of recommended raw foods as well as a plan to transition Bella to it. Finally, a lovely vet tech came in to take Bella into the back for claw trimming. I was expecting fierce resistance, even biting, but she continued to be docile! I didn't think a trip to a vet could be that wonderful! I am so delighted that Uniquely Cats exists. read more

Dr. Slack is an exceptional veterinarian. As a physician, I expected the best possible care for my cat. She went above and beyond. Her practice is evidence based with attention to detail. My cat has benefited greatly from her care and I recommend her practice highly. read more

I absolutely love the vet here. They treat my cat like it's their own. The environment is warm and welcoming and they let the cat adjust to the room each time they come. All the people there are welcoming and nice. It does not feel like a vet when your there. read more
