Despite the several times I've stopped inside this store, I never knew there was a beer walk-in til today :o It's not much to brag about - there's a sign for "craft beer" but there is none - but it's nice that there's a place really close to campus that sells alcohol. The quality and prices of things are mid, BUT the employees here are always super nice and efficient. I watched a guy ring up a group of 8 for ice cream, and he did it without a single sigh or complaint. Overall just a regular convenience store, but good service and convenient, secure campus location. I do hope they renovate the lot to be safer and more accessible to pedestrians. read more

I stopped in here today to pick up smokes for my sister. She's 12. No, just kidding. About her age. The other bit is true.UDF stores almost always card, regardless of how old you might look, but today my burly, winter beard must have done the trick. Of course, I've been here before, but just getting around to a review. This is one of the nicer laid out UDF locations in Columbus. It's a bit larger than most, the aisles are a bit tidier and the floor, today at least, was cleaner. UDF has really good deals on their ice cream from time to time. I'll usually pick up a few pints when they are running a special. On the downside, the UDF chain is owned by some notorious right-wing nutcase (this is why they don't sell condoms in UDFs) from the Cincinnati area. There was a story a few years back about how this cashier wouldn't sell gas to a woman in an Obama shirt, which corporate said was A-OK. So do know you're supporting that kind of thing when you shop here. read more

Coming from KC to Ohio I heard that this place is supposed to have great service. It could have fooled me. Both times I've come here the staff (the same people both times) have been rude, moody, and down right disrespectful to every customer in the building. If you're trying not to get yelled at, save yourself the effort and go somewhere else. read more

After Steak and Shake closed last summer, I needed to go somewhere to get my milkshake fix. I love milk shakes, and UDF was the place for me. UDF has everything you would expect from beer to cigarettes to candy bars and even some things you wouldn't. I once forgot to buy eggs and raisins when making oatmeal raisin cookies for my friend's birthday, and lo and behold, UDF had raisins. I thought raisins were snacks that were going out of style or only in trail mix, but luckily, UDF sold them. Sometimes the workers make your UDF experience a little more entertaining. I once partook in an interesting discussion at the location on 12th and High about how an employee should take his truck on "Pimp My Truck" and paint it the color of Blue Moo Cookie Dough. I love the milk shakes, although they're usually a little bit runny, but when I ask for a thicker milkshake, they usually oblige. The ice cream is always delicious, and it is certainly cheaper than Coldstone. Since I will be living on Frambes next year, I know I'm going to have to find a way to tame my milk shake cravings, but right now, I'm planning to have a milk shake a day. read more

I prefer the more spacious layout of the other United Dairy Farmers just a few blocks south of this location. Also, when I stopped by yesterday, only the June 2012 edition of Columbus Monthly was in stock, and of course, we've now proceeded into July. But in general, the ice cream from this company is very tasty and especially creamy, and I wish a UDF location would open up in the D.C./northern Virginia area! :-) P.S. I go to this UDF a few times a week to buy spring water for my apartment, and sometimes get one of those UDF mint chocolate chip ice cream cones for the pretty girl who lives upstairs... Anyways. Everything at this UDF seemed ordinary at first. But as time went on, I began to realize that the employees who work here are all very "real". After overhearing several conversation, I realized that all the employees here are highly intelligent people who are on their way to greater things. These employees are not your typical gas station employees. I first noticed the authenticity of the employees here while waiting for ice cream or checking out. They are kind and open. They will usually engage customers in light discussion about Columbus culture, music, and life in general. Sometimes dialogue sparks into larger group discussions as other customers standing by weigh in on the conversation. Meaningful small talk is hard to find in Columbus these days. So, I consider this UDF location a sort of budding cultural phenomenon. read more

This UDF has gotten me through 5 rounds of finals and it never fails. They know how to keep the energy drinks and ice cream flowing which can be just enough to get you through final week stress. And then they have the beer to celebrate finals week being over! read more

So UDF is a great place to be when you're hungry as fuck, but you don't have any food. They have a parking lot so you don't need to drive up and down the high street avenues if it's a weekend night. Also, their signature cow lighter (basically a regular lighter with the likeness of a cow's hide decorating it) is a must-have. I think most college kids refer to these lighters as "Bovine Bics" or they'll say things like "Gimme my calf lighter" or "Toss me some veal flame," or even, "Fanks for the beef blazer." So this place probably cards for beer; I've actually never purchased alcohol illegally (just drank it) so I really don't have an answer there. I have bought alcohol off my friends though, thrown them a dollar or two for a couple beers (we're talking cheaper beers like Natural Light and Natural Ice). read more
