This is the second time we have worked with United decorators - the first was for blinds only, and we were extremely pleased with how they turned out. When we moved, I needed an upholsterer and read the rave reviews for United Decorators' work for this service as well. Since I had had such a good experience with them five years ago with our blinds, I decided to call them again for both our new window shades and the reupholstery of three chairs. Paul was as gracious and responsive as he was the first time we worked together. In fact he was as pleased as I that we were working together again, and went very much out of his way to make the experience pleasant and easy. Any glitches along the way (finding samples, ordering and purchasing the fabric, it's delivery,) Paul dealt with immediately, and graciously. When I had some trouble working the blinds' lowering mechanism, he offered to send out a service personnel, and in fact offered to come over himself in order to show us how to work the mechanism. We are especially pleased with the upholstery work: Not only do the chairs look beautiful, but all three of them are now much more comfortable. Paul took careful stock of each piece's original condition, added extra padding where necessary, at no extra charge, to make our chairs better than they've ever been. We had had one of the chairs reupholstered in the past by a "skilled" upholsterer, who could not remedy its sagging springs. We almost threw the chair out. After the upholstery service with United Decorators, the chair came back better than brand-new (it's an antique, so that's saying a lot!), and is now the most comfortable chair in our home. In short, if I have any future need of blinds or reupholstery, I feel lucky to know that I can call on United Decorators. I couldn't recommend them more highly. read more

When I moved this summer I had to get many pieces reupholstered, slipcovered, and redesigned. I also needed window shades for privacy. Having worked with high end name designers over the years, with top end private workrooms, I had a good idea of what I wanted but also didn't want the many months' process. Scanning the yelp reviews was helpful, and i reached out to United Decorators. When the owner called me back that day, we discussed my needs and set up an appointment. The owner brought many swatch books and style guides for window shades with him, and we took our time walking through the apartment to talk about the look I was after, which was modern and unfussy. After picking fabrics and styles, we agreed on a price and he took measurements. A few days later his people picked up the pieces to be reupholstered and took detailed measurements of the items to be slipcovered. Of course I was anxious, as things went so fast compared with the lengthy process I was used to, and I feared that I would get a slapdash job. Within two weeks all the furniture work was completed and redelivered. And they were beautiful. Seriously beautiful. The only hiccup was that two window shades needed adjusting because the window enclosures were not square. The owner returned the items to the factory so the adjustments could be done right, and they ended up fitting perfectly, This is a family owned local business, with hands on old fashioned service. And they have a good grasp of modern design. Their workers were clean and professional, and it was clear they had worked for the owner for many years. I've had two wonderful experiences with this company: The first was a few years ago when I was on the decor committee for our condo building and we wanted to refurbish our lobby. Paul was recommended to our committee by a decorator of our acquaintance who helped us select the fabric. United Decorators did a magnificent job reupholstering 5 pieces of furniture and making coordinating pillows. The workmanship has held up through much use and a few cleanings. This year, I needed two items in my home recovered after 12 years of use. The same decorator helped me with the fabric and Paul was the obvious choice. He came to my home in February and priced the work fairly. He received the fabric but when Covid closed our building he could not get the pieces. What did he do? He waited patiently, calling me to reassure that just as soon as it was possible, the work would be done. And it has been done impeccably and speedily. I had a minor issue with the firmness of the cushion and it was picked up without a word of disagreement. Rather, Paul said, "I want you to be happy." One day later, it was returned to me! I do not usually post comments on company websites; however, in this case I feel compelled to do so and whole heartedly recommend United Decorators. Having just gone through this process myself I know it is hard to discern authentic recommendations from "fake news" - it seems to be a growing national malady. That's why I hope this can be of help to the next reader. Because of the site's recommendations from long term customers I was more interested in this company and then, after speaking with Paul, I felt ready to commit. It's a relatively small job (a living room chair and 2 new throws) but critical in the redesign of my apartment to fit a beautiful Moroccan rug I just brought back from my travels. Paul answered all my questions and design concerns throughout as I selected my own fabrics independently. His price is within the reasonable range of the market and guaranteed that there would be no price surprises, as another upholsterer had done with me. They delivered the furniture early and it is gorgeous! Exactly as I'd envisioned it and I felt like I had someone to guide me throughout the process. I was redoing all my window treatments, plus getting bedskirts and going crazy. I tried the Shade Store, Janovic and a few other places, highly dissatisfied as there was no connection between the sales person at the store and the person who came to my home. I was unable to intelligently discuss my needs and particulars of my windows. Then I found United Decorators and the owner Paul. He came out to my home with in a day, discussed options, brought fabric samples, took measurements and gave me a very good price. He came back when I had concerns and wanted to change things. He was extremely available and cooperative during the entire process. I received the goods and had them installed within 3 weeks! There was a small problem and he fixed the cornice and had it back the same week. His installers were efficient and really professional. In today's world it's difficult to find a business with such personalized service that is responsive to customers needs and backs up it's products. I can attest to the quality, responsiveness and pricing issues because I've worked with Paul and United Decorators to reupholster first a large living room chair and then a modern sofa. The results were superb in both cases. The living room chair required working with a fabric specifically designed to fend off the bad intentions of a cat. To help protect the work done on the chair, United Decorators also made separate arm protectors. They turned out to be an excellent idea. The sofa in the den was more of a presentation project than a reupholstering. We wanted to keep the shape of a modern piece while preserving its mid-century style. Their work is spectacular. We had two barrel chairs and six dining room chairs reupholstered. The workmanship is immaculate and the attention to detail is stunning. All the piping is even and level. The new cushions on the dining chairs are the perfect height and very comfortable. The new cushions on the barrel chairs are perfect, supportive yet squishy and so comfortable. The way they lined up the pattern on the barrel chairs is amazing. The buttons on the back of the chair are the center spots of the pattern we picked. We already plan to have them do more work for us, two more chairs and some curtains. Paul was wonderful to work with. Two week turnover time. Couldn't ask for better! I could give them more than 5 stars I would. We had more work done! They made us a bolster for our bed, restored and recovered an antique, and made our little rocker arm chair look like new. They're now repairing our dining room table. So professional, superior work, friendly, and fast. 100% satisfied twice over! read more

Do you know what carefree means? Let me explain. Most of the time I need to watch to make sure someone I hire does the job correctly. So I waste time watching for something goes awry. I watched for 5 minutes while the installation was being done and I had decided to take care of other responsibilities and hoped that my gut feeling that all would go well was correct. What an understatement. If I could give 10 stars I would. Everything went smooth, I hardly noticed they were there. I did when my caught the looks of appreciation on my family's faces, looking at their new shades. A job very well done. You will especially love dealing with Paul or Dalia who have a wonderful sense of style whether you like elegant, modern etc. They worked with in the range of style we provided as well as the colors and honed in without fanfare or waste of time on the correct choices. Nine years ago I purchased a sectional sofa from Roche Bobois, the sofa was expensive and very beautiful but I was never satisfied with the workmanship. After a few years the sofa started to sag, the down feathers constantly protruded and the sofa became very uncomfortable. Instead of replacing it with a new sofa I decided to have it re-upholstered if that was possible and not too expensive. Well the sofa was expensive to upholster but it was well worth it. A beautiful sofa has been returned to me by United Decorators. They did a fantastic job, the sofa is now as comfortable as it is pretty. I did not tell my friends about having the sofa re-done. I wanted to see their reaction when they walk in the living room and I have not been disappointed. Everyone loves it and now, best of all, they no longer avoid sitting on it. Paul is very nice and easy to work with. He did a wonderful job. I will definitely use them again for other furniture pieces. read more

United had a solid five star rating before this review and our experience is in complete agreement with the previous opinions posted here. Paul visited the house to give an estimate and we fell for him right away because he complimented our home. He was also extremely professional, instilling confidence that our family heirloom was in good hands. We gave them an antique chair in serious need of a facelift and within days of the material arriving in their shop, the chair was back in our living room. It really was a remarkably fast turn around. The crew that retrieved and delivered the refurbished chair were extremely courteous and Dalia was a pleasure on the phone as well. I consulted Paul to reupholster two old, tired chairs, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. It was a pleasure to work with Paul, who takes great pride in his craftsmanship. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and professional. He advised me on two prints that I was considering for these chairs, suggested that the cushion on one be rebuilt, and told me exactly what he would do and how. His price was reasonable, well within our budget, and pick-up and delivery of the chairs was right on time, within the 2-hour window he stated. On the day of delivery, he told me there was left-over yardage for one of the chairs. I asked him if he could use some of it to make a pillow cover. and he did, complete with the pillow itself. My husband and I had been wanting to get our dining room chairs reupholstered and we finally decided to do it before Easter this year since we were hosting at our home. Paul was very accommodating with our schedule. He came over during the weekend with many different samples and my husband and I settled on a pattern. We had about two weeks before Easter and Paul had everything finished and dropped off with days to spare. We requested additional padding for each seat (6 of them) and they were so comfortable.... I wanted to treat my new home to something pretty that would blend in with my new sofa so I had this old battered torn ottoman and two huge yellowish colored pillows and decided that I needed it reupholstered. I called United and a very very sweet and respectful gentleman, PAUL, who showed me all kinds of fabric. He was so patient and after a long while the order was made. Within 2 to 3 weeks I received the finished products and let me tell you how beautiful the whole ottoman looked it was like coming from the show room seriously. The pillows were so pretty and made a contrast to the sofa that everything just stood out it was such a beautiful effect. The prices are quite reasonable the work is done quickly and precisely to your liking. Definitely I am going to call them to come back for the window dressings and for the bed spreads. read more

They took my cold couch & armchair and turned them into something that looked BETTER than the original!!! They both look brand new! They refilled them so their stuffing is perfect and the fabric I chose looks breath taking. Dalia showed me a variety of fabrics that I was able to choose from. I loved all the options I had. They were super friendly, professional, prompt, and fairly priced. Their quote for having both of my items done was half of what I was quoted by other Brooklyn & Manhattan upholstery companies, and the job was completed in one week!!!! In July of 2011, United Decorators reupholstered a large sofa for us. The fabric we selected had a complicated pattern which required careful placement and matching. The finished product was absolutely beautiful and graces our living room today. We recently purchased a dining room rug and decided to reupholster our 10 dining room chairs. Remembering our excellent past experience, I called United Decorators and was delighted to retain their services once again. Paul Sajovits brought many lovely fabric swatches to our home on a Sunday morning. We selected a favorite fabric, and two weeks later our "new" chairs were delivered. Nothing i say could explain how highly i regard Paul and United Decorators. I am an interior designer and i have worked with Paul for 15 years. He does virtually all my work, unless a client specifies a different workroom, in which case i inevitably regret it. Paul's work is perfect. And if something is not just right, he won't stop until it is perfect. His prices are very competitive and where it will take someone else a month to get an order completed, it will take him half the time. He does all my drapery, all my refinishing and all my upholstering. He has created beautiful headboards for me based on sketches. He worked around our schedule for both consultation and the installation. Very informative on the product details.  Cost: Great price. Better than any of the competitors! No pressure for add-ons etc. Product: We went with blackout roller shades for our floor to ceiling windows. I was nervous about the shades blocking our ability to open windows (they pull inward) but it was not an issue. The shades blend beautifully into the wall.
