I've never studied Jiu-Jitsu but I knew of it from when I trained Judo in the past. I was always impressed by what the Gracie Family accomplished in the UFC and how BJJ changed martial arts forever. I gave Patrick Head at United MMA in Nederland TX a call and tried a free lesson in Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing the following day. Immediately I was hooked! The facility was spotless, the students treated one another like a family and the instruction is top notch. Two of my children and I train regularly and love it. I recommend United MMA in Nederland to everyone I meet and as far as I'm concerned there is only one place to practice Gracie Jiu Jitsu and MMA. read more

Unlike traditional striking martial arts, there is practically no punching and kicking, which keeps accidental injuries to a minimum, while the close physical contact and sparring help strength and conditioning. At Oranday Brothers Jiu Jitsu, the atmosphere is very welcoming. Typical schools at the start of the UFC and MMA craze were very aggressive, giving belts and promotion to the ones that would literally crush their opponents. Understandably, attendance would often be sparse, injuries high, and the eventual collapse of start-up schools. In today's environment at OBBJJ, the school is structured to build technique over brute force, allowing drill time at first before the students ever get to their first live sparring session. I've been attending classes at OBBJJ since 2016 and have never been in better shape. As a 40-year old slightly overweight man with arthritis in my shoulder, I have less daily pain than when I was in cardio kickboxing or heavy weightlifting, even though the classes and rolling leave my gi completely drenched in sweat. Stop on by, they offer a week free. It's great for kids and adults. The classes are also separated by age group so there is no intimidation. This place is great no matter what age. Plenty of food, pizza, drinks, ice cream choices to purchase at their facility. You cannot bring your own food into their facility only bottled water. (That was kinda a bummer) We did have a total blast with our grandkids and family. This place offers a great way to cool down. We will definitely go again!!

Update: I already…read moreleft a review after our visit last year, but I wanted to update it because I realized I never mentioned what happened afterward. After our experience, I chose to reach out privately by email rather than just leaving a negative review. My goal wasn't to complain I genuinely hoped the feedback would help improve the experience for future families and visitors. Unfortunately, I never received any response or acknowledgment. What disappointed me most wasn't even the original visit it was realizing afterward that there didn't seem to be any interest in hearing customer feedback. A simple reply, acknowledgment, explanation, or even "thank you for taking the time to share this" would have gone a long way. I understand businesses get busy and not every message can result in a full resolution, but being completely ignored after taking the time to provide detailed, respectful feedback reinforced the same feeling we had during our visit: that customers were more of an afterthought than a priority. I still think the space itself has a lot of potential, which is why I reached out privately first. I just wish the customer experience had matched it.
