I have moved relatively close to this store in the last 6 weeks, so have visited a few times with…read moreit potentially becoming the store where I do my weekly shop. However, I shopped here on the 29/9/2024, spending a total of around £120 (our normal amount), only to receive a parking notice yesterday for £85 for staying over a time limit. Now I have a few problems with this: 1) Punishing customers who spend a lot of money at your store is daft. 2) Most stores have a 3 hour limit, not a 2 hour limit. (This can be seen at the ASDA up the road) 3) Customer Services fobbed me off this morning when I went in to ask for help with it, saying there is nothing they can do, I have to talk to Euro Car Parks. (I know this is not the case, as I previously worked for Sainsbury's, as a customer service manager who had to manage these issues regularly. It is a case of Sainsbury's liaising with Euro Car Parks, a simple email). So I also feel like I have been lied to. As it happens I had a little shopping to do today, but at the point blank refusal to help, I took my custom up the road to ASDA. Furthermore, the same will be the case at the weekend when I need to do the full shop, and this will remain the case, unless something is able to be sorted. So well done, I guess.

Tesco Extra in Altrincham is a pretty large store, it is in the town centre, with a rival…read moresupermarket nearby, a poor branch of Sainsbury's which I actually had to pass to get here. The store is really large, especially for a town centre location, it has multiple bridges going into the store, I did initially get lost working my way in and somehow ended up going in through the employee entrance, the main entrance, however, seems to be through a sheltered car-park and then up a very steep travelator or a lift. The checkout and payment system seemed to be much easier to use than other stores, while they still have the handheld devices to scan as you shop (sadly they don't have a mobile app similar to Sainsbury's and ASDA), it seemed to be a newer interface on both the tills and the scanners, which made them quicker and easier to use - it looked better too, everything was clearer which I liked. The facilities in the store are good, there is also a Vision Express opticians as well as a Tesco Mobile Shop and Cafe. The staff around the store seemed friendly and happy to help, and they did have a good selection of products. I do find their booze area could have been managed better, as well as one aisle, they seemed to have different bottles on random corners, they could have been more together, sadly I couldn't find my favourite brand of rum, Dead Man's Fingers in stock. 4* - Good store overall, getting in and out the store could be easier, especially for pedestrians. The to-go food area could also be slightly more extensive for a store of its' size, and also didn't include a coffee machine.

This is a fairly good-sized store, which carries most of the usual Sainsbury's range. The fruit and…read moreveg section is particulary good, although I have found that if you go at the wrong time of day, often some of the baskets of veg are empty and don't seem to be re-stocked. This has happened to me several times, even when I've gone in the early afternoon. The fish counter is excellent, and the staff are happy to give advice about how to cook and serve your fish. There is also a very good deli counter, and a fresh bakery. Although this store doesn't sell any clothes at all, they do have some jewellery stands near to the pharmacy, and a very small entertainment section at the front of the shop where you can sometimes find a bargain cd, dvd, book or game. The staff at the tills are quick and efficient, and I don't usually have to wait for too long to be served.

This is a large Sainsbury's with a large carpark. It is next door to a big Homebase so is a good…read morespot to combine grocery and homewares/DIY shopping into one trip. The store itself is bright, airy and well laid out offering the usual Sainbury's fare food and drink wise. There isn't much in the way of clothes etc nor homewares but there again, as I mentioned before there's the Homebase next door. They have a number of special sections including organic, bakery, cheese etc. They carry a very good gluten/wheat free section. There's nearly always enough tills in action so I've rarely had to queue. The customer toilets are well maintained (situated off the corridor that joins the supermarket and Homebase.) A seperate J cafe is next to the supermarket. Being seperate it doesn't get the shop noise and they'd blare in music so its a nice quiet spot for a cuppa before you tackle the weekly shop.

As you enter the pleasant smell of fresh bread from the in-store bakery makes the whole store seem inviting. Fresh flowers, cards and newspapers are the first to catch your eye, leading you to the well-stocked aisles packed with produce from fresh and vegetables, to a variety of fresh meats and fish. Their famous meal deals are also prevalent, as are the dairy and fresh food. Most of them M&S branded goods, but some well known high street brands are also starting to invade the shelves, which adds choice. The variety of pasta, bread, tinned goods, frozen food, confectionery, fresh bread/rolls etc. are equally impressive. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is never too much of a queue. The price would prevent you doing an entire family shop here, but its a great place to come for a treat, where you know the quality of the food is high.

While it is big for a city centre/ mall location, it is dwarfed by their other stores. I do feel the store could be due to some renovation as it did feel a little old and even dirty at times especially with the old flooring, and they did also appear to be understaffed so it was hard to find a staff member when required to ask where certain items were, such as the free from section which was a shame. The Free From section was interesting, they did have some cool and unique items such as Brewdog Beer, but they lacked with pretty standard items such as a selection of bread. Obviously it is in a good location within intu Derby and the shopping centre, but surely it is due to a total renovation including improving the selection in multiple areas, although it can be useful within its location, acting like a large Sainsbury's Metro store it isn't a complete terrible lost cause. 2*
