The clerk who assisted me was kind, patient, informative, and helpful. Gosh, I wish I had read her name tag, as my receipt only has her clerk number. She was understanding of the questions I had regarding the stamps for my envelope, allowed me to make my careful selection of the love birds stamps after looking at all the options available at this location, and informed me of the estimated delivery date, given our upcoming federal holidays. I had a very pleasant time at this location. Although I arrived 15 minutes before closing (due to my shift at work), I was treated with genuine kindness and am very appreciative of that because I know how busy it can get. Our apartment complex in Chapel Hill is currently having issues with this post office at 125 S Estes Dr. I ended up wasting time and gas to hunt down two COVID-19 test kits I ordered from https://www.covid.gov/tests. My kits were returned to sender. A few circumstances led to this. Our apartment complex shut down its package room and directed residents to use a different mailing address to receive packages. Packages are now handled through the delivery service Fetch. However, the covid.gov website wouldn't let me ship the test kits to our Fetch address because it isn't a residential address. So, I had to have the kits sent to our apartment address instead. The kits were shipped via USPS. They would come through our mailman. The kits were due to be delivered on August 6, 2022. However, instead of receiving the kits, we got a note in our mailbox that said: "Your leasing office is no longer taking residence packages therefore you will need to come to the Chapel Hill Main Post Office at 125 S. Estes Drive to pick up your parcel. You have a 2 package at [address redacted]. Please come at your earliest convenience for your package. We will hold your package for 30 days then it will be returned to sender." My kits were returned to sender on August 18, 2022, well before the 30 days printed on the note. I brought the note to the post office this past Saturday, August 20, 2022, thinking it would be a simple pick-up since I was well within the 30 days. At first, an employee tried to help me find the packages. She spent quite a bit of time until we both learned the packages had been returned to sender. I showed her the note. She said the note didn't come from the post office, but instead from my apartment complex. Later, another employee came out from the back and explained the situation to me. She looked like the manager. Her name was Canay (not sure if I spelled her name right). Canay was familiar with our complex. She led me to believe the mailman wrote the note. However, she pointed out that if he did write the note, it was not on any sort of official USPS letterhead (she did not approve) nor did he get the number of days correct. "We will hold your package for 30 days" should have said "10 days" instead. That's why my packages were returned to sender well within the 30 days. Canay made a copy of the note. It sounded like she was going to address the issue internally with our mailman and perhaps other staff. Canay was polite, efficient, and helpful, as were the other two employees I interacted with. The problem here was the note, which incorrectly said that my packages would be held at this post office for 30 days. I entered the post office shortly after 2:00 PM and left shortly before 2:40 PM. It wasn't a short visit for what should have been a quick pick-up. I then drove directly to the leasing office at our apartment complex. I showed the note to the leasing office staff and explained that I had just come from the post office and what had happened. Coincidentally, a couple came in behind me, who were also in line at the post office with me, with parcel issues of their own! I asked the leasing office staff if the note was written by someone at the apartment or by the mailman. They said the note was written by the mailman. If the note had been written by apartment management, it would have included official apartment letterhead, etc. I was then told about the issues that the apartment management has been having with our mailman. Simply put, they don't think he's doing his job. Since our apartment closed the package room and switched to Fetch, the mailman has refused to deliver packages to residents' doors. Instead, he's been leaving this note in people's mailboxes and telling them to go to this post office location, about 10-15 minutes away (in light traffic), to pick up their packages. Just like our apartment's now-old package room, Canay explained to me that the holding room at this post office is overflowing, which is why they hold packages for only 10 days. If I recall correctly, our first round of COVID test kits fit in our apartment mailbox fine the first time, so why not this time? Canay said she's been telling the mail carriers that if it fits in the mailbox, put it in the mailbox. Like Canay, the leasing office staff also made a copy of the note. And, if I heard correctly, our apartment management already has a meeting in place to figure something out with this post office/our mailman because I'm not the only resident who has been experiencing problems with the mail lately. All this said, it sounds like most of the blame is being placed on the mailman. I don't know how much blame should be placed on him because there are several factors involved and I haven't heard his side of the story. Is he overworked or is he being lazy because he got used to dropping packages in the package room? Where were the miscommunications, etc.? If I could give it a zero, I would. This is not only the most poorly managed post office I've been to, but it also has some of the most unfriendly employees. It makes sense though, because leadership quality greatly impacts who is hired and/or the overall happiness of employees. P.s. keep your kiosk functional so we don't have to stand in line forever because there is only one unhappy employee working in the front. read more

This is the worst USPS ever. No one ever answers the phone. My mailbox says do not deliver anything to this mailbox without our family last name on it. We get packages, letters to other people almost every week. We write return to sender no one here at this address and place back in the mail....have even spoken directly to our mailman about it. He said don't know why that is happening. Have written a eletter at usps.com with no response showing screenshots of said mail/packages. The worst is we get daily updates of our mail/packages to be delivered. It is never on time. Not sure if employees are new/not trained, don't care about doing their job, overworked or what but you would think this postmaster would care about his post office. I had an issue with a missing package, and while it was never recovered, the person I worked with went the extra mile and provided me with a letter of attestation (and apology) that I was able to present to the merchant to get a refund. And after I had reported the issue, the carrier at my location also went as far as to knock on my door and offer the same sentiments in person -- a touch of professionalism that impressed me. Unfortunately, I have since had one additional package go missing -- this time, I just decided to eat the cost of the merchandise and order it again, rather than make several trips back to the post office and stand in line for half an hour. I've not had any of the issues dealing with the people at the front desk that others have reported. Overall, I'm not happy about the missing packages or the sometimes long wait times at the main desk, but my direct experiences with the personnel at this post office give me the impression that they care and try their best. read more

I really like this place, but always feel a bit violated each time I'm here. Doing business here is a bit like engaging in some sort of weirdly surreal BDSM[1] role play. I use this place frequently in it's capacity as a post office. Service here can be a bit hit or miss, but this is primarily a USPS office afterall and I don't expect much going in other than the usual lowly gov't employee fare. And even though I've been in better locations elsewhere with slightly better attitudes of the employees, this one gets the job done with my lists of to do's: -Get books of forever stamps...check. -Send off letters, cards & packages to various places...check. -Pick up package...check. -Interact with crazy Asian dragon lady behind the counter...check. Dom: (types a few more things and hands me a form, taking box) Move over. Fill out this, this and this section. Next! That Asian lady and most of the postal workers here are perfunctory in their attitudes, but I don't care. They might order me around and chastise me for not correctly filling in form PS 8076 before I head up to the counter, but I'll go there and send a letter/package knowing that it'll get done. I might get my ego a bit bruised along the way, but as long as I assume the submissive position...everything's A-OK, right? Overall, I really do like this location for several reasons: 1. it's conveniently located for us CHillians near Franklin/Estes/15-501 close to the community center, U-mall as well as several banking options, 2. it has a super-duper self-serve postal meter center (stamps, mailings, etc) for those who are averse to human interaction, 3. it also has passport office located here, and 4. lines are pretty quick most days of the year - even 2-3 days before Xmas. Tips: Assume the position...or just go to the self serve station to save any remaining vestiges of your dignity. For all USPS services, if you have a scale and don't mind printing out the label, you can save a few bucks[2] and even arrange for pickups - esp. on larger packages. 3 stars for getting the job done. Why do I always feel bullied in the place? The lack of customer service skills is ridiculous.

Unlike the Franklin Street and UNC locations, this post office has free parking. It also usually has more staff to help you. My main complaint is there a separate line on the far side of the store when you enter to pick up packages. There is zero signage to let any customer know that, however. So after waiting in line, I was told to go to the secret pick-up line. A little bit of signage would go a long way. read more

I have been going to the P. O. branch in Estes Drive for a very long time have not had to deal with 'ruth and disagreeable' employees. Not infrequently the branch is crowed and the employees are unable to respond to the requests of the customers that are not always clear. Some of the customers are rude and inpatient dealing with the employees. The Post Office, a very valuable service to all communities, is understaffed and underfunded. we should attend to their needs and then complain if the behavior of the employees does not change. I would rate this specific location 0 stars if I could. My package from the UK didn't deliver because I wasn't home and was handed to their delivery partner, USPS. Online they claim they have tried to deliver my package three times, but I was home and didn't hear any sort of knock to indicate they were outside. Online it says they left a delivery note that told me which USPS location my package would be at so I could pick it up, which was never left.. 3 times. I've had nothing but negative experiences with this post office. I often buy live, viable hatching eggs that can only be shipped through USPS unfortunately. These eggs are time sensitive, so it's important that I get them on time OR have the option to pick them up if not. My first experience was with an Amazon package and an insane delivery woman. My neighbors dogs (chihuahuas mind you), barked as she pulled into the driveway. I was in the shower at the time, but heard extreme honking and spinning out in the gravel, so I hopped out to see what all the noise was. She ended up cussing me out, saying that even if they weren't my dogs that I needed to do something or they're going to get shot, threw my package out the window, spun out in my driveway, and flipped me off on the way out. I called the office to file a complaint, and nothing happened about it. Didn't even receive a call back. The second time I waited in line for an hour at the office, just to be told after waiting to go to the side window. No one was there for about 10 or so minutes, then a lady appeared around the corner. She was disrespectful and did not care in the least bit. I gave her my tracking number and she said my eggs were on the truck for delivery. Turns out, they weren't, she just didn't want to look for my package. Those eggs arrived 3 days later, frozen solid and cracked. The second time I called the office instead of going directly. I said that the tracking info shows that my eggs are at the post office and that I would like to pick them up, instead of them waiting over the weekend in the freezing warehouse. (Each day that passes, chances of hatching goes down, too). She said if the tracking did not say "in unit" that my package wasn't available for pick up. I've never seen "in unit" for any package I've had and tracked. She then hung up. Sure, you obviously take chances with shipped hatching eggs. Sometimes they arrive cracked, etc. But with this service, my chances of ruined eggs are increased ten fold. They do not care, are rude, unprofessional, and it's an extreme disappointment since there are no other delivery options I can take advantage of. Every package I've received has been late and in poor condition. As a result, I won't be ordering eggs again unless I have the option to pick them up or move. read more

Soviet Inefficiency! Tax day 2017, at least fifty people in line, no spots in the parking lot. Everyone who has heard about tax day knows its going to be busy but they do nothing to add extra staff or even have a normal level of staff up front. They have two people working out of the five stations and then they have another that's roaming around asking if people need to buy books of stamps. Hello....90% of the people here are simply sending their taxes in. Oh, but wait, there's more...after finally getting to the front of the line I get a five minute lecture on the importance of including a return address and then the postal worker reads through the address and pretends like its not legible. I used to be a team lead for UPS and we used to time interactions with customers, the time that loaders would spend with packages and the efficiency of our drivers for the highest quality and customer satisfaction we could give. I can tell you right now that if this was one of UPS's facilities some people would have been fired today. Does anyone at the postal service look at this stuff? I can name ten post offices that do a great job in Texas and New York and Chicago, filled with staff that go that extra mile. This post office is staffed by some of the nastiest, brain-dead individuals I've ever had the 'pleasure' of meeting. Though all three I interacted with were disrespectful and appallingly ignorant human beings, the worst among them was a woman named 'Kim'. Though she initially came off as just rude, dismissive, and spiteful, after some consideration, I think her job has just made her dead inside. They all seemed dead-set on ignoring any and all logic, facts, or reason--even if it meant being willfully ignorant of their own policies. They made me wait over an hour with my perfectly legal package, jerking me around with whether I could send it or not, ignoring all my documentation of their own policies, showing me outdated (from 2002) charts, and then, finally, when Kim was begrudgingly letting me add a new label on to ship it, she said she got "a text from her boss" saying it couldn't be done. No other real reasons given. Though I had absolutely every right to ship my package, I was already shaken and didn't want to clog the overcrowded, disgustingly understaffed little place for the unfortunate people in line (some of whom were openly defending me--completely unprompted). So I left without so much as an apology from the soulless shell of a human that is "Kim". She did, however, provide the name of her boss...who was, of course, not there, and decided it was appropriate just to TEXT a negative response when there was no way she could know via text what my situation was. I understand if she'd told me to come back tomorrow or asked to call me, but the negligence from this so-called 'boss' is shocking. Her name is Chris Palumbo, by the way---not that she'll even get a slap on the wrist for her likely countless instances of incompetence, but I feel she deserves to be shamed in at least some minuscule way. If there's any way you can avoid this place, please do. I know most post offices are terrible, but I'm certain this one takes the cake. From what I witnessed, they were horrible even to people shipping simple things. I know it'd probably make them happy to hear that I'll never ever patronize them again simply due to the fact that they seem to be the type who'd rather do anything other than their jobs. read more

I decided to attempt to go to the post office Friday at 5pm fully expecting to get turned away, and instead I had a very pleasant experience!! I obviously had no idea what I was doing and two employees immediately helped me find the correct packaging material at the most economical price (saving me $7 which I would've unnecessarily spent without their help). I left at 5:05pm, feeling grateful and relieved that a potentially negative experience turned out to be a positive one due to helpful employees with great attitudes! read more

They had only one, saying the only person with access to the vault had gone home and want chiming back today. It was 12:45 pm. Now I've slogged over to Shannon road which is usually worse. Every negative comment on here is true. The employees, not all (my postman rocks!!!), just a lot of attitude behind the counter- there are no smiling faces, or "hello how are you today?" I have been patiently waiting for a solid month for my lock to be changed on my mailbox since the old lady who lived in my condo died and could obviously not leave a key for me at closing. I get nasty attitude- as a customer, I give kindness and I expect kindness in return. I'm tired of being treated as if I am a bother to them. Someone needs to take the leadership of this building and reteach them customer hospitality. If you're that angry everyday you go to work, retire, quit or work in the back. I see why the postal "service" has lost so much business. If I could give less than one star I would. On another note, I received a plastic envelope containing the envelope in which my items should've been in. However, there were no items. If the items were damaged, why would you not send them to the recipient anyway? I would love to have taken pictures of the damaged goods and sent them to the seller. This post office advertises online that they do passport photos. However once you visit the site you will see that they have many flyers posted around the passport office explicitly stating that they DO NOT do passport photos and you must provide your own. read more

Postal Service tried to deliver my new wife's ring just now. The problem is they didn't even knock on the door AT ALL. I was ten feet away and heard nothing. Too bad you can't give negative stars. They lose incoming mail AND outgoing mail. They never deliver at a reliable time and sometimes skip days entirely for the whole street. This service sucks completely. I am writing my Senator. Last night, I dropped off an overnight package in the big mail box in the post office because I knew that I would not be able to be there in the morning due to work. But later, I realized that I had put it in the wrong envelop..etc. I called the post office at 8:30AM this morning (before they even opened). A lady answered, and searched for my mail, couldn't find it. Another lady came and found my mail, and agreed to put it in the right envelop for me and send it on its way. Also, I had a form inside the envelop where I made a mistake when I filled it out, and she corrected that for me also, and assured me that it was all corrected. She was extremely helpful, clear in everything she said as well as fast and cordial. I'd really like to thank her in person, but I forgot to ask for her name. I think that she may be working in the passport section of the post office (that's a guess). read more

I cannot trust the Chapel Hill post office. The carriers are completely incompetent! After many misplaced packages in our complex, the apartment managers went in and relabeled the insides of our boxes with our names and apartment numbers in very large numbers. Yet, 2-3 of my packages get delivered to the wrong box every month or the carrier sticks the parcel locker key in the wrong box. I cannot count on my neighbors to return these items to me when there are $50-$200 items inside. Whenever I pay extra for priority mail services, my item rarely arrives on the expected date yet it "miraculously" says DELIVERED at 9-10pm every night and shows up the next day. read more

First, I walk up to the counter and let the lady know I am sending a package overseas to a military base. She proceeds to THROW a large stack of papers at me and say, "You have to fill this out" - never does she say what the papers are, or much less how many I need to fill out. Never did she offer any help, or ask if I had ever filled one of these forms out before - she simply dismissed me and yelled, "NEXT IN LINE!" So, as I struggle to fill out this form with no prior experience, I hear the same attitude and rudeness being given to another customer behind me (who was also sending something to a military base overseas). I get back in the long line, hoping I have filled the forms out correctly - and a different employee calls me to their station. Thankfully, the forms were correct and she now tells me I have to tape my box with priority tape (which is across the room) meanwhile, sitting right next to her is a roll of priority tape that she clearly is not offering to me. She tells me I have to now leave the desk AGAIN just to tape my box and get back in line. Awesome. Back of the line I go. Finally, for the third time, I get to the counter and I am actually able to send my package, but of course met with attitude the whole time. I was so delighted when she handed me my half ripped receipt with this survey link. Because I am a nice person, I hope the people I had to deal with today, with the most disgusting attitudes, never have to send a package overseas to their husband (who IS DEPLOYED IN IRAQ TO DEFEND THEIR FREEDOM DURING THE HOLIDAYS) in such a crappy environment. As if it wasn't already hard enough to come to the realization that this is all the Christmas he gets from his family this year, they just HAD to make the sending of a package THAT MUCH HARDER.
