The parking lot is moderate size with a few parking spaces In the front and a few more in the back. There are two self service machines that you use to buy stamps, print labels, and more. There are never enough staff so there is always a line no matter the time of day. The hours of operation on weekdays are usually 9am to 6 pm which is great compare to usps in Maryland where they closed at 4:30 pm. All in all, I would recommend anyone who need to use usps services to come to this location.

Some of the deterioration of the crown moulding on the outside of the structure had to be specially crafted to match the rest of the authentic moulding. Inside there are many original brass fixtures and mail slots, post boxes, wooden doors, desks and podiums. One unique feature of this post office is the huge mural of Clifton farm painted by a local artist of that period, E.S. Lewis. Dubbed "New Deal Art" from1939, as Franklin Roosevelt's effort to end the Great Depression, it's one of only 2 murals of its kind in the area. A plaque dedicating the building is displayed next to the post office counter. A knowledgeable and friendly postal worker informed me of the historic value of this post office! You may find it to be other things, but please just understand my aim here is to be Useful. Over the years as my brother and I have taken our annual sojourn on the AT we have learned a few Things. He's learned more than I have because he's wired better that way but some of these Things we've learned together and call Shared Wisdom. Some pertains to hiking and things pertaining to the out of doors, others more generally to Life. Considering that we've walked from the ME/NH border to the Shenandoah Mountains and experienced Stuff along the way it stands to reason that we'd be a bit more comprehensive than when we started out. One of our discoveries is this: Six days of food on your back is totes heavy. Last year's solution involved using a second car and doing a drive-around every other day (drive two cars to the end of a day's worth of walking, leave one car there, return to the beginning of said leg, park second car there, walk the leg to the car parked at the end, drive up to the car at the beginning, drive both cars to the end of the next leg, drive back to where we had finished the prior leg, park, repeat). We could leave food and tents if we didn't need them and beer and stuff we'd rather not carry for six days in the cars and resupply daily or every other day and get biscuits and bacon at convenience stores and we were crazy light but the ordeal kind of involved math and felt too decadent so we didn't want to do it again this year. So this year we decided to cache food in holes and I took a long time making packages I thought maybe bears wouldn't smell in a hole and we took a shovel from the garage and headed south. But on the way I noticed while studying the map that kind of near the trail-road crossings at two-day intervals there were Post Offices. Light bulb. Both were swell and filled the bill perfectly but this one is better because it's like only a half-mile off the trail and there's a store nearby where you can buy a can opener if you forgot yours and maybe a pack of smokes if the walk isn't already hard enough. This is also the first of the two we encountered and inside was Carmen who is hands down the most beautiful postal person I have ever encountered in my short bittersweet life. Prettiest ink east of the Rocky Mountains, I daresay. She took our package wrapped up to fool bears and put it in a cupboard. And when we appeared three days later a little worse for wear and tear but now with said missing can opener there she was and there it was and all was once again right with the world. Useful tip - hikers of the Harper's Ferry to Shenandoah leg of the trail - mail or drop of your cache with Carmen because she'll take care of it and your back won't be breaking. She spoke of camping and morels and other local things and mentioned her fiance because I guess she felt that would be a judicious thing to do. She accepted the sprig of dogwood as a token of our appreciation. She made our day. Even an IRS scandal won't diminish my view of the US government today, thanks to Carmen.

When questioned about why packages are not being delivered, we have been told that the new carrier has "his own delivery style" or that it is "the new policy" for customers to pick up packages. If that is truly the case, then what is the purpose of paying shipping fees and having packages addressed for home delivery? For years, our mail carriers provided dependable service, and we showed our appreciation by leaving holiday gifts as a token of gratitude. Unfortunately, the current level of service has eliminated any goodwill that once existed. Customers should not have to make unnecessary trips to the post office simply because delivery personnel choose not to do the job they were hired to do. This branch needs accountability and a serious commitment to customer service. Residents deserve the delivery service they are paying for--not excuses and inconvenience.

This job is literally hell on earth from day one. The management is by far the worst people in the world. The other carrier are the only decent people but everyone would gladly throw you under the bus to save there ass. The have very strict and unreasonable expectations that put you and others at risk. If you don't meet those unreasonable and impossible expectations you get threatened and abused repeatedly. They have a horrible turnover rate and lay people off without notice for absolutely nothing. I was laid off 5 days before my 90 day ended and was never given a reason why. My post master became hostile and my supervisor was horrible and two faced. The pay was a little better but not worth the nightmare that you put up with daily and the lack of job security. CCAs havs worked there for some years and never get hired on as regular and quit generally before it will ever happen. They preach about safety but the pack the most dangerous vehicles full of mountains of mail and parcels that logistically cannot fit in the LLV. If anyone reading this is considering this opportunity there is a reason they keep on hiring! They are desperate beyond belief and they let tons of people go. Don't let them pull the same crap as they did to me as they will do to you. Keep you sanity!

Mail is left in my mail box many times with the door open only to be ruined by rain when I return. I also cannot get it restarted even after going in person and tell them to do so verbally. There is no one to answer the local phone number even though it is supposed to be manned from 8:30-5. There is no voice mail so it requires multiple in person visits to get things back on track. Many times I am told I simply have no mail but after going in three days in a row to recheck, a manager will come out with a whole box of mail and claim they don't know where it came from. They keep blaming temporary workers but even the workers that have been there for 6 years don't seem to care or know what they are doing. My last post office was nothing like this.
