It would need energy-efficient machines to help protect the environment. There would be Victoria's Secret models in teeny tiny lingerie as attendants and of course an open bar. Sounds good? I don't need a laundromat very often but it's nice to have one nearby in case of an emergency or if I have really large stuff to wash. It might be missing the models and the open bar but it's a really nice facility! Arriving- It's on US 27 South with a nice big parking lot. It's very close to the DDs if you need a caffeine and/or sugar fix. There is a great Mexican restaurant next door. Lots of fast food within sight if that's what you're craving. Ambience- It's brand spanking new so everything is spotless. There are numerous washers and dryers in many different sizes. A normal load takes 35 minutes and can be dried in 20 minutes. That's fast! Customer Service- A very nice attendant showed me around and answered all my questions. Cost- Right now they are cash only. Of course, there are machines to give you change. Coming soon are charge cards and even pay by phone. A wash and dry in regular sized machines will cost you $5-$6. The bigger machines will cost you more as they should. Conclusion- This is now the best, most versatile laundromat in the area, and it has AC! It may not have lingerie models as attendants and an open bar but it's still a great place to get your laundry done!

I retired here 12 years ago, stopped by here and was treated so well a practically had a heart attack from ecstasy! Now it's time for an update. Arriving- It's on Main St. with typical free parallel parking. Drive around the block and you'll find a free lot that is close. Ambience- They've recently underwent an expansion, and you are now welcomed by a beautiful outside mural! See my pic. Everything inside is clean and neat with comfortable chairs. Product- In FL, small towns like mine combine their tax office and DMV operation into one. A lot can be done online but some stuff needs the personal touch. For really complicated work, especially property titles. I need to go to Sebring, which has a bigger office. Customer Service- I came from PA where a DMV visit was often a half day nightmare or worse! Here, I'm seen in 5 or 10 minutes and I'm often out the door in less than 30 minutes. The employees are super friendly and efficient. On this visit I was out the door in twenty minutes, and it took 2 hours for the smile to disappear from my face! Conclusion- Folks often complain about bureaucracy, but this is a wonderful example of how to do it right. 10 Stars!

This was a complicated move with lots of moving parts and required some local storage. This place was new and had a great location so off we went. Arriving- Simple to find as it's in a little plaza on US Route 27 South at the intersection of Route 17. Acres of easy parking. Ambience- This is a brand-new facility, so everything is spotless and in working order. Nice offices to sit down in and work out the details. The spaces with the rental units are similarly spotless. Security looked good. Climate controlled units. Pro Tip- You need to supply proof that your Homeowners/Condo/Apartment insurance will cover your stuff, or they have an insurance company you can use. Cost- My friend reserved a 9.5 X 10 unit for $132 monthly. Note that you can pay month-to-month here. Moving In- The process worked as advertised with no bumps in the road. Moving Out- That process is in the future. Customer Service- Nice folks and no problems! Moving can be really stressful. You don't need anyone or anything to add to that stress. These folks were stress free so I'm going four stars.

Easy access and decent parking. The staff will handle table and chair setup to meet your needs. For a couple of hundred bucks plus a security deposit you'll have a turn-key facility that's darn nice. Note that if you are going to serve alcohol the security deposit will be increased in case you get all wild and crazy! I've been to a couple of functions here and have learned to appreciate how valuable a place like this can be!

In late 1837 during the Second Seminole War, Colonel Zachary Taylor left Tampa to capture the…read moreNative American Seminoles who the government hoped to send out of Florida and to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. In order to attain his goal Taylor established forts along a supply line to provide support for the campaign. One of these forts was located along the banks of the Kissimmee River. Fort Bassinger was named in honor of Lt. William Basinger 2nd U.S. Artillery who was killed at Dade's Massacre on December 28, 1835. The fort was an important supply depot due to it's location, but after the war it was abandoned in 1850. Drawn by the river, homesteaders moved into the area after the Civil War and the town of Basinger began to grow where the fort once stood. The area was populated by cattle farmers, trappers, and farmers. The river made it easy to ship crops out. In 1875, Captain John Mizell Pearce, who had served in the Third Seminole War and as a captain in the Civil War, was deeded 157 acres of land on the southwest side of the river, which included the old fort. The Pearce family were one of the first settlers in what would become Highland County. At one time the town had hotels, churches, blacksmith shops, a post office, school, and a general store. In the 1915 the railroad bypassed Bassinger in favor of Okeechobee 20 miles to the southwest. The bust of the Florida land boom years and the Great Depression dealt further blows to the town and Bassinger began to die out. While many families moved away, the Pearce family decided to stay. In 1908 Edna Mae Pearce was born on October 19, 1909 on her families homestead. In 1953 Edna married James Lockett and the couple lived in the home Edna Mae's grandmother built overlooking the Kissimmee River. The historic marker for Fort Basinger (F-54) was erected 1961 by the Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials on the couples homestead on the site where it is believed the fort stockade once existed. Edna Pearce Lockett became an important woman in Florida history. She took over the family's cattle business and served as an officer of the Highlands County Cattleman's Association and Florida Cattleman's Association. In 1948 he was only the third woman to be elected to the House of Representatives and she served three terms. She was also a founding board members of Highlands General Hospital and Youth Care Home in Highlands County. In 1980, she was named Honorary Chancellor of her alma mater Florida Southern College and she is a member of the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame. Eda Pearce Lockett passed away on May 17, 1991. Today Bassinger is a ghost town. Remains of the store and hotels are gone. The Lockett estate is abandoned and is the property of the South Florida Water Management District. The buildings are starting to fall apart but you can still see the Pearce family cemetery under the oak trees. Through the years attempts have been made to find someone to restore the homestead and open it to the public but there have been no takers and the site remains closed to the public.

But back in the day, when the US Army was busy fighting the Seminoles, there was a fort here. Today there is this marker as you cross the bridge over the Kissimmee River. The marker reads: "Col. It was a small stockade which served as a temporary fort and supply station on the line of forts extending from Tampa to Lake Okeechobee. Named for Lt. William E. Basinger of the 2nd Artillery, who was killed in Dade's Massacre, the fort was abandoned at the end of the Indian wars."

I decided to get a second opinion, and was offered a much simpler solution--adding a second cold air return--which resolved the issue and actually improved system efficiency for around $400 total. My takeaway isn't just about Long's, but HVAC work in general. Always get two to three bids, especially for air conditioning. I've had multiple companies work on the same house, and it still wasn't running correctly until a simpler, more experienced solution was applied. You don't want inexperienced technicians guessing or experimenting on your system. You want someone knowledgeable who's been doing this work for a long time. Ask questions, challenge repair recommendations, and require that they put it in writing that they've correctly diagnosed the issue and that the repair will fix the problem. There's no reason you can't ask for that before approving the work.
