During the Cold War, Fort Detrick served as the chemical and biological hub for the CIA's illegal mind-control program, Project MKUltra. Today, it is globally recognized as a premier center for biomedical research, biodefense, and global medical logistics. On the day that we visited, it seemed like a ghost town. I felt like we were the only ones driving around the post. We saw some interesting facilities but we were surprised bu the very small commissary and PX (post exchange) as compared to other posts. It seems, for us, it was more interesting to read about Fort Detrick than to visit.

The Witherspoon Covered Bridge to date is the only remaining covered bridge in Franklin County…read morestill in use by vehicular traffic. Witherspoon Covered Bridge was built in 1883 by S. Stouffer, of Burr Truss construction, 86 feet in length by 13 feet in width. The bridge carries Anderson Road over Licking Creek. With stone abutments and a short rise to the deck of the bridge, I opted not to drive my car over it even though it is open to traffic.
