A Montgomery County Police Officer working private security at the Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington ejected me from a polling place in violation of the First Amendment. The no election sign was several feet away from that and it was in bushes. I have been an election judge. I have been a poll worker. We tell people to get back behind the no electioneering sign all the time. That is for election judges. The law says that they're supposed to make their parking lot available to members of the public for election hearing if they are a poling place. I was never so happy as when an officer moved into my apartment building. That made me feel very safe. And then, on this trip home, I rented a large truck and proceeded to run over a lamp post and a stop sign. Yep, I did that. And I called the police and the officer who showed up was so super nice and understanding. He got me out of the sun and contacted everyone who needed to be contacted. And then he moved my truck for me. I am pretty sure he was laughing at me a little, but not in a mean way. Just in a "well, isn't this ridiculous" way. And it was. And his amusement put me at ease and helped to calm me down. I felt safe and cared for.
