Best in home care around. I've had Universal Home Care from Dec 2024, I requested them and only them through my hospital. I got surgery in February and requested them again. This company needs to be investigated. They do not provide the services required and approved by the insurance. Office people keep passing the phone to other people and do not pay attention to approved request. They do not supervise therapists. I had two major surgeries in May that required an in home nurse and physical therapist to visit twice a week. Both the nurse and physical therapist took amazing care of me. I had some nerves before meeting them, as the surgeries took a lot out of me, but they both put me at ease after their first visit. Universal Home Care deserves all five stars. My experience with UHC began early this year, following eight weeks post-surgery in hospital and physical rehab. (When I returned home, I was very weak and unable to walk on my own.) I was impressed from the outset. My main contact, Yuri, came to my home to assess my situation and needs. He then assigned a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a nurse, and a bathing assistant. All are exceptional people--professional, thoughtful, and good listeners. They understood my limitations, which were numerous at the beginning, and together we adjusted care as my condition improved. Medicare covered most of my support services, but it was UHC that delivered them at a 5-star level. I highly recommend Universal Home Care! read more

Yana took care of me at home after a difficult surgery. She was easy to communicate with and responded right away when I reached out to her. She was very kind, compassionate and gentle. I had bandages replaced twice and also sent her photos daily to reassure me everything was healing as expected. I would highly recommend her as a home nurse. read more

One of the worst home health companies I've ever dealt with, they have terrible nurses, but their physical therapist are the worst geriatric physical, the that comes with his lunch laddered all over his jumpsuit, tracksuit or whatever they used to call it back in the 1980s. A messy person that came in with a negative attitude and is certainly not welcome in my home with this kind of attitude we could only stay with them a few weeks because they lacked the skill and the care that we felt was necessary we know is necessary from a home health agency, they don't care about improving their experience with patients. All my caregivers were extraordinary! Willy saw me thru some extensive wound care - she was so warm and comforting and funny - I could not have felt more safe. Yehuda was always terribly kind and personable - tho his workouts were tough for me, he seamlessly altered plans on the fly to keep pushing me without making me feel discouraged. George was always encouraging and reassuring - he made our long walks go by quickly while chatting about life and health - he is a very compassionate man. read more

The care and the information during those first few weeks of recovery was coordinated - a comforting feeling during that time period. The entire staff was dependable and competent. Responses for requests, questions, or changes to the assistance program was relatively easy and quick. I did not know what to expect from the home service but I highly recommend them. I have now been working with Universal HomeCare for several years for services for my elderly grandparents who require regular weekly visits. There is always a nurse available and everyone we have had for the visits has been prompt & reliable, knowledgeable, and has great bedside manner. I don't recommend due to a lack of care not professional, they dropped my Son's care for no reasons and left us with no care after 20+ years. They left their Nurses with no pay any no notice...3 days to transfer care to another Agency, the Patient needs total Care. Universal is not a Recommended!!! read more

I never ultimately received care from this facility because their front office was so bad. I placed 5 calls to them and was always told "we have a process, we'll get back to you." There was never an attempt to assist instead I got push back. Very process vs patient driven. I would never use them. read more

I am extremely dissatisfied with this agency. They are not available 24 hours as their impressive bound booklet states right on the cover; they are only open on weekdays and limited hours at that. The case worker (Kathy) isn't always available when I call and I have to leave messages. Those messages often go unanswered. At times the answer takes a long time coming and is often "I'll check and see if anyone is available." Then there's no follow up call whatsoever or there's a response which never materializes- (i.e. "Someone will call you and set up an appointment today." No one calls or comes. Another time an on call person (weekend) was to call me and never did. In addition we just now realized the PT sent the last two times never took my vitals. To my knowledge, professional PT's always start by taking your vitals. Bottom line: unresponsive, unprofessional, uncaring and misinforming information as to their hours of operation. read more

THEY LIE! First I was told I would receive a call on the day of my hospital discharge to schedule PT. THAt NEVER HAPPENED. Then, on the next day (two days after surgery), I got a call saying "our Physical Therapist has been trying to call you several times." When I called back to point out that my phone had NO contacts from anyone, including no calls from a physical therapist, then she decided to change her story and say, No, our physical therapist didn't try to call you. So, when I told her that she was now changing her story, they said' 'we haven't started service with you and we don't need people like you" and they hung up (I had called asking for the manager, but they said she wasn't available, and to tell them the concern, and that's when Kathy, interrupted and the woman answering the phone hung up. Lovely customer service. I would love to discuss this with an actual nurse manager but somehow I doubt that's going to happen. It's fascinating to me that the reviews are mostly UGH! (1) or YAY! (5). A closer look makes it obvious why the differences in the reviews are so widely disparate. It's about the individuals, apparently on a "hit or miss" basis. Too bad the agency doesn't have clear policies, to which employees are expected to adhere - sorry, but I'm a former long-time hospital director, so I know about policies, audits, and accountability. The only person whose praises I can genuinely sing, is Ashleigh, the Physical Therapist. She's bright, warm, helpful, and CONSISTENTLY RELIABLE. She said when she'd arrive, and that's when she arrived. If it turned out that she "might be" ten minutes late, she texted. Not one of the other people did anything they said they'd do, when they said they'd do it. Not one. My first visit was MORE THAN a week after I was discharged from OPEN HEART SURGERY!! That's just neglect, on the face of it. What I should have done instead of leaving a negative YELP review, was to report them to CMS and CDPH. The second night after my discharge, I was literally GASPING for air. I knew I needed oxygen and, since it was clear that Universal wasn't going to bring me oxygen, I considered going to the hospital ED. I had just read a newspaper article that morning, saying that hospital EDs were swamped with Covid patients. I debated with myself as to whether my risk was higher to stay at home and potentially have a fatal drop in oxygen, or to go to the ED and maybe contract Covid. I decided to tough it out home, but it was a rough night. As per B.G.'s review, they certainly are not available 24/7. What agency waits more than a day to visit a patient who has just had heart surgery? The RN had a FaceTime with my cardiologist, who asked that my labile blood pressure be monitored daily. She agreed to come three times a week, starting on Monday. The physical therapist was coming twice, so that would mean I was being monitored daily, as requested. No one came on Monday. when I called to complain, I was told that "we never said which three days." Yeah, you did. I heard you. The LVN came on Wednesday to take my vitals. She was a no-show/no call on Friday. When I called Universal on Monday, I was told that she's "off all week because she has Covid." That's really "music to my ears," after she was physically that close to me, taking my blood pressure. Except for Ashleigh - all praise to her - the whole operation is like the Keystone Cops. There's more, but I think it's clear that this agency needs a makeover - badly. read more

Ashleigh & Yannis are both exceptional Physical Therapist Specialists. I met with the PT Supervisor Ashleigh a week after my THR surgery for my initial evaluation visit/exam and again for my release visit/exam. She guided and advised me through my PT process, expectations and goals. I met with Yannis for my twice weekly PT which was challenging and fun and got me moving and healing so fast it exceeded all my expectations. They are both dialed in on all protocols per specific Drs. approach which is vital for maximum recovery. Each approach has specific rules of what you can and cannot do the first crucial 4 weeks. My progress with Yannis was so spectacular no one can tell I've had hip surgery never mind that I had my surgery only 4 weeks ago. Look no further and request Ashleigh & Yannis. I'm surprised to see the negative reviews here as I had an exceptionally good experience with this agency. Ayim was exceptional in overseeing my care and Irina was great on the home health visits. Communication was clear. There might have been one or two small misunderstandings but they were minor and cleared up quickly. When you're back in nursing school for your graduate degree, you're not treated like a baby anymore. My school requires that I find my own clinical locations and preceptors. Only one out of 30 locations said "yes" and what a wonderful health care team it is. I'm learning a lot about home health care. The nurse they sent me was excellent. The rest of the service was bad to horrible. Received my post surgery walker and other equipment after I got home....and after I had to use a shopping cart to get around my home after hip replacement surgery. Tried at least three times to get a bathing assistant and someone to help me around the house (payment out of pocket) and their coordinator could not coordinate or communicate - waited 30 minutes after appointment on the third attempt and finally gave but called to find out what happened...was told by "David" that the assistant had called him and told her she was running late and was on the bus...but he had no consideration to call me. I cancelled....not worth the hassle, especially at $50.00 per hour out of pocket to bathe and have someone do laundry. Don't like the attitude of being at someone's mercy because I can't get around and do things on my own. read more
