My daughter should have never trusted her blankets to be "professionally cleaned" by University Laundry. When my daughter picked up her comforters and discovered they melted and burned them, whatever..they ruined them! My daughter tried to have them take responsibility, but "the Manager" was not having it. After speaking to the counter young lady on the phone, my daughter went in person to talk to the employee, but she was unsuccessful. I am sure she needs her job; she has always tried to do what is fair when handling customers. I give her kudos as a CSR. I really do. It's tough working for a taker, and not a giver. This Manager gave an unconvincing apology with a stone face that I am sure has been used many times; read past reviews, and they are not good or great, especially customer service. When my daughter told me about the incident, she was in tears; her favorite and only bedding. I don't know if anyone realizes this but about 60% of this establishment's clientele happens to be students; they never have extra money to throw away. From what I have read a lot of people have lost money going to this 'place' because they need clean clothes, they need the service - and trust they know what they are doing. My daughter is a student with a child, she does not have the luxury of giving her money away to someone who really does not care about anyone else but himself. At the end of the day, you should make it right, which he will not (as per reviews, and in-person) - the customer is always right when they put trust in the establishment with their personal property. Who would have thought a $56 business transaction would have cost my daughter another $80 to replace what they destroyed? How many students do you know, Mr. Manager that can afford to replace their personal property every time you decide to be dishonest, especially when a customer entrusts their personal property in your hands? I have seen a lot of people give this place bad reviews, but in my experience this business is amazing. I needed Dry Cleaning done for my work clothes, and had a really messed up tie. Long story short I got the tie used at a Savers, and I put it through washes, not realizing it is made of silk. So the tie was in bad shape. I brought it in to them for dry cleaning, on the hopes it could be improved on its look, but I didn't put my expectations to high. And wow, was I blown away. When I went back to get my tie, not only did it look better, it looked perfect! I am going to include my tie look for everyone here as proof. I was shocked to see how good it looked. It didn't even seem like I had bought it used, nor did it look like I had washed it. And on top of this, on both of my visits the customer service was amazing. All of the employees I met were extremely kind and understanding. At one point I almost walked out, thinking I had paid for the service on my first visit and had no need to pay to get my clothes. Then, after receiving my tie, I began to walk out. An employee kindly stopped me and told me I still had to pay. The situation was handled so well by them in fact, I did not feel embarrassed whatsoever. I paid them, and left with a wonderful looking tie, and a new found confidence I will have at work whenever I enter from now on! This business wildly passed my expectations in every way! I did not use the washers or dryers since I had no need to, but the dry cleaning here is top tier at the very least. The service here is phenomenal. Jose is the man here. Right when I walked in welcomed me and explained the differences from all the different washers, how efficient the front loaders are verses the top single loaders, and how I would get the best bang for my buck. As I did my laundry, he was very friendly with everyone else coming in and just a super humble guy. He even was training his co worker Stewart and just the way he treats his colleagues with such patience and kindness. Overall the machines here are good and dryers work well. Felt like what normally takes me 2 hours for 5 loads only took me less than an hour. Def recommend this place for anyone! read more

I have been coming to this laundromat for years. It's the cheapest in town and has a convenient location right next to one of my favorite coffee shops! That's why it pains me to write this, because I really do love that laundromat. As of today however, I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. I went in and loaded my clothing into the $3.00 front end washer as per usual before taking my dogs for a walk. When I returned and took my clothes from the washer they were still sopping wet. I checked the washer and noticed it was stuck in the rinse cycle. Not too big a deal, as it has happened before and I'm a pretty chill guy. So I put an extra dollar in the dryer and went to inform the attendant that something was wrong with the washer. Now to be fair, this is the first time I have had a problem with the staff at this place. They have always been quite pleasant. When I went to tell the girl there about the washer(after having to coax her about 3 times just to move) I pointed out that it was stuck on the rinse cycle. Afterwards I get this deadpan stare for about 10 seconds before she asks what was wrong with it. I told her again that it was stuck in the rinse cycle, which the orange arrow was clearly stuck on. I advised her to put an out-of-order sign on the door before leaving, as I still had the dogs and I didn't want to leave them out there too long. I returned half-an-hour later to get my clothes to find that not only had she not taken my advice, but the washer was in use again! Before I left, the person using the washer had to complain about their clothes still being wet. After calling the manager this girl then came up to me and blatantly asked how I broke the washer earlier. I responded that I didn't break the machine, it was stuck on the rinse cycle, to which she again blatantly replied was "bullshit". I'm a pretty mellow guy, but I don't appreciate being called a liar, especially when I was just trying to be nice and warn them about the washer. So I angrily told her that I simply pulled them out and that the washer was unlocked just like normal, to which I get another blank stare, So I asked her if she even knew how these machines worked. She snidely replied that she did, and told me to get out. I told her I wasn't leaving and that I wanted a refund(which I had not asked for, nor was going to up until this point). She refused on the grounds that I broke their equipment and threatened to call the police. I told her to go ahead and while she was at it to call her manager. It was at this point that I started to realize that I was going to be stuck in an argument, probably for hours, filling out paperwork for a police report .... for 3 dollars. Somehow I came to the conclusion it really wasn't worth it, and left the building. I don't know who this young blond girl is, but if that's the kind of person working there now I think I can try one of the 10 other laundromats around here from now on. It's really a shame, because I really did love this place before today. Next time(like there'll be one) I'll just take my clothes elsewhere and they can figure out the machine is broken on their own! read more

This place is very unreliable. I took my military uniform in to get dry cleaned and my hat/cover came back very deformed and unusable. I went back a few days later to inform him and he then accused me of messing up my own hat. He said that he would try and "fix it" when I obviously needed a new hat/cover. Going back to Comet! I almost believe these people aren't actually washing my clothes. The pressing on my NICE SHIRTS is terrible. Pants were still dirty. My complaints were useless. Being new to the area, I went on the hunt for a dry cleaner. I don't require too much from a dry cleaner - 1. Clean my clothes, 2. Don't ruin my clothes, and 3. Be pretty cheap. University Cleaners certainly satisfies all of my exacting criteria. Simply put, they get the job done. That is not to say this place isn't notable. There are a few reasons this joint is better than others in Cruces. First, they're local. If there's an option, I always try to support the Mom & Pop joints. I think all the people who work there are related, if not, they have very particular hiring requirements. Second, the hours here are great. What's the point of a dry cleaners if they are open 9-5 and closed on weekends. The only people who need dry cleaners work from 9-5 and have weekends free! Those are great hours for an English major trying to get their tweed jacket cleaned, but for the rest of us, it's much more convenient to drop your clothes off before or after work. This joint opens at 7, giving most people more than enough time to drop of their clothes and get to work. Third, it's pretty cheap. Like two bucks a shirt. Nothing crazy, just a good dry cleaners. I went to this cleaners a total of six times between 2011 and 2012. The first five times were fine. Clothes were clean and ready to go and they give a discount to students. I have always shown my student ID upon pickup. No one ever mentioned a different protocol. The last time I went (August 2012), I was helped by an older man that I've never seen before. He refused to give me my student discount ironically on account of the fact that I was already receiving a discount ($5) for writing a good Yelp review*. * At my penultimate visit I was offered a $5 discount if I wrote a good review online. I was fine with this bribery and wrote a review on here (sorry Yelp, that's probably against your rules... but I was happy with their service at the time). They never said I couldn't use the discount with my student discount nor did they specify that I needed to show my student ID at the time of drop-off. I told the man at my last visit that I would never return if he didn't give me my student discount (a measly 5 or 10%). He refused, was rude and not accommodating. I worked in the dry cleaning business for fifteen years (family business). I know the amount of work and effort that goes into the process. My order was about $25, could another 5/10% really have hurt them? No. Could it have helped me, a student? Absolutely. I have started going to a different cleaners and we are very happy together. read more

I agree with the review that says they don't listen to special instructions. Ever. The service is average, at best, and like Matteo I'm usually 60% satisfied or at most 75%. One thing that really bothered me was how they staple the tag on my ties. I specifically ask them not to, but still most ties are stapled THROUGH the tag on the back. It isn't hard to staple the tag only and spare my poor tie from getting an unneeded piercing. On at least one occasion the tie tag was either hanging by a thread or detached completely. Also, if there is a stain or something on the tag, they use like 5 staples on the tag telling you so. read more

My fiancé took one of my long fancy dresses to the location at Foothills on a Friday afternoon. The attendant quoted him $35, which he paid in full, and he was told it would be ready Monday after 5:30. On Tuesday morning I receive a call from someone claiming to be in charge at the Locust location. He told me that dress had been transported to that location and had not yet been cleaned. He said the price of $35 was wrong it was actually $85. He said I needed to pay another $50 before they would clean the dress. I asked him if it wasn't good business practice to honor the quote, especially since it had been already paid, and it wasn't my mistake. He said no, was very rude and said I could pay the additional $50 or come get the dress. He never apologized or took responsibility for the original quote. My fiancé picked up the dress and took it to Comet who were very understanding. I'll NEVER go to University Cleaners again. Should have gone to Comet first! read more

the only reason they dont get five stars is I hardly ever give anyone five stars..so this is about as good as it gets. My family had used a local cleaners here for three generations but they decided to close the doors ( I think the younger generation just had other interests) so I asked the staff I had done business with for as long as I can recall if they would make a referral. They strongly recommended their old rival University Cleaners. I gave them a try and have been very happy with the results. I am a bit of a mess and my shirts always have way too many food and chili stains but somehow they mange to get them clean. The only extraordinary request I have made is to have leather trim added to the cuffs and collar of a cherished old bush jacket that had seen better days. Took my curtains to be pressed only cause they were new. Got an est. for around 14.00 dollars from the young man working there. That was ok. When I called to pick them up and to see how much, they told me 49.95. A bit of a difference. Asked for Manager to call back. He said that was his service. I told him I asked to only have them pressed. Well they washed and pressed them and he said we misunderstood. No! with an argument, he said he would charge 24.00 dollars but since you call me a name, I'm going to go back to my original 49.95. After we calmed down, he agreed to 25.00. I decide to go there because the proximity to where I live. The shirt I took to clean where white, and the final product satisfy me by a 60%, some of them where still stain around the neck. The pants and jacket were excellent. My wife dress too. Price a little high than expected. Other than that I took all my clothes with my nice hangers, worry that they did not give them back at the drop off, I assume that they will be returned at the pick up....wrong! Everything got returned with the cheap shit hangers, and mine are in some employe closet. read more

I dropped off two identical 100% silk Antonio Melani blouses in two different colors worth $130.00 each on Saturday. The man behind the counter promised that they would be ready and dry cleaned by Monday. They were both spotless and brand new, but needed to be freshened up when I dropped them off on Saturday. I arrived Monday evening. I asked for my blouses which I needed for an interview I was going out of town for the next day. They are all I can wear. The women behind the register refused to give me one blouse. She said that the man entered the wrong information, and I could not get it back because he said it was a dress. I said: "just give me the blouse back if it is not dry cleaned." I asked repeatedly. She refused to return to me my blouse. She tried to give to me my second blouse. It had dark stains all over it, and the sheen was gone because it was pressed. Ironing it created wrinkles and burned a rough texture into it. I said it should not be ironed, and the women said that it has to be ironed. It clearly cannot be ironed with their equipment and was destroyed by their equipment. She said that it was all my fault and shame on me for expecting my blouses to be ready for an interview. She told me to hurry up and leave because she had work to do, and did not apologize. She only scolded me. I will review later regarding what they do with the clearly dirtied and damaged blouse and if they will give me both of my blouses back. I have proof that I bought the blouses recently, and the blouses were brand new. I hope the dry cleaners do not wash the second blouse since there is no way to message them. The one they let me have has liquid droplet marks on it and is streaked like they let it sit in dirty water with swirls of dye. I asked them to fix it and left it with them, although the life of the fabric and beauty is gone. It is $130.00 worth of unwearable clothing, and they refused to return my second blouse I gave them. If I could give this a negative star I would happily comply. They left a red bag on my door for the third time, I figured "Hey, I will try them out" Thought it might be nice to have my cleaning delivered. WRONG!!! Left bag out on Monday with a school owned expensive high school choir dress. They did come for the bag and also left a note saying I would have my things back by Thursday and also $10 off for new customers. Wow! Awesome!! But, wait Thursday night here and almost 7:00pm. "Where is my bag"? So I call the number on the welcome letter that the owner provided and if you did not see his number "no worries" he has it listed ten times. So, I figure I need to call (I have no dress). Well, three calls later and Mr. LaRose never answers his phone. So, I call the actual cleaners. A young man answers the phone and has no idea why my clothes have not been delivered, he gives me managers number by the name of Luis. I call Luis, finally going to get this resolved and see my clothes. Nope, nada, nothing, Luis tells me "oh well" we will get it to you tomorrow. "Ok" really upset at this point the dress belongs to a high school here and had to be retuned Friday or I owe money. This is the reason I used the service in the first place. After having a conversation about my dilemma with Luis, he hung up on me! I tried calling back and he will not answer. Finally, for some reason Luis, calls again just to hang up again? Whats going on? I have never had a manager hang up on a new customer let alone twice. Please do yourself a favor if you see the RED BAG"on your door back away and do not get tempted. You are better off dropping off your things yourself at another location. So much for pompt delivery service that they say they provide. Never Again! read more
