University plays as a nice clean indoor mall with a mix of various shops and eating places it's a great place to walk around during the evening for the kids. The vendors that are in there aren't too intrusive when you're walking by them. The Eden places aren't completely packed even during busy hours. I'm a child of the 80's and teenager of the 90's, so malls are a big part of my upbringing. I have many fond memories of going to the mall with my mom, or as I got older, with my friends. It's hard for me to imagine a world where malls are obsolete, but I do fear that we are going that direction as more and more people do their shopping online. That said, the University Place mall may be immune to that simply because it's located smack in the middle of town with so much around it. People will come just out of convenience of location. There are all the stores you'd expect, and a few surprise ones too. It may not feel like there are a lot of people inside, but the parking lot is always crowded. I think this is because there are lots of adjacent or nearby retail places that share the parking, and it can get a little congested. read more

Boy am I grateful for the university place mall! It may not be the biggest mall in Utah, but it has so many good stores, good food spots, and GREAT family activities all year long! During the summer we love to come to the splash pad and see the dancing fountain! In the courtyard there are festivals, movies in the park, concerts and more. In the winter we love to play at the indoor playground to keep warm but keep running around, and see the super fun Christmas lights at night time! The food court has a Chick-fil-A, an Orange Julius and a pretzel maker so I mean come on, what more could you need?? Some notable stores we love to visit are bohme, gap, H&M, Victoria secret, ibody, cotton on kids and bronxton. As far as malls go this mall just like most malls in Utah tend to have a lot of random stores that just don't do well in the mall. They don't have many good stores here and when they do it's very expensive stores that no one can afford really. The mall needs new stores like hollister, north face, REI, and so forth. The better mall to visit is city creek mall! But the food court isn't bad here so that's a positive. read more

It's a newer mall, it's clean, but like most of the malls in Utah these days, it has a lot of sprawl and stuff is all over and everywhere, rather than merely going vertical because I guess that's SOOOOO 70s or 80s or whatever. Anyway, this one has a lot of good stuff, though the layout is not entirely convenient. One has to walk outside to get to the bathrooms...? Ummm, k, I guess some amount of working won't hurt my fat ass to do, but then a few of the maps are entirely wrong. It's like they printed one map for the entire mall and just used that for everything, which made the "You Are Here" thing not entirely functional. Easily avoidable error here...parking is mostly fine and there's potential, to be sure, but it could also be loads better. read more

How DOES one review a mall? By the stores, or by itself? This is a question I've tackled this fall and winter as I've made my way down the I-15 corridor, visiting Logan's Cache Valley Mall; the Newgate in Ogden; Layton Hills; City Creek, The Gateway, and Trolley Square in downtown SLC, the Valley Fair Mall (skirting West Valley City); Fashion Place (Murray); the Shops at South Town (Sandy); Jordan Landing; The Outlets at Traverse Mountain; and now, University Place in Orem. The first thing that caught my eye was the difficulty to find the mall. It's not anywhere near I-15, and there's no signage from the freeway in the 2 miles to the joint. And when I got there, still no signage. I started improvising and ended up on a Park Avenue (winning the Drew B. award for least Park Avenueish Park Avenue) and through what could be described most charitably as "the back of the mall." I saw construction, lonely orange cones, and scratched up dumpsters. I finally found my way to the UP parking lot over by The Orchard. I entered. The first thing I noticed was the quiet. I would find out later it was just dead on that side of the store, with new mystery companies (such as Tribalry), vacant buildings, and monuments to the dead stores (Edge Custom Shop). And then came the food court. Definitely, the best mall food court I've been to on my SLC valley journeys. I ate at Villa Italian Kitchen, and was pleasantly surprised with their soft, saucy, and succulent Stromboli. As well, the court has a Charlie's Steakery (home of some great Philly steaks) and a Orem favorite Rimmel's (home of the Original German Döner). I also have to give props to the people of Orem, who have shown so little interest in Taco Bell that the franchise in the court made a run for the border. And you can eat in the food court and take in a fantastic view of the mountains. I also like some or the amenities: Plenty of cushiony public seating, plenty of entrances, the Compass Mural in the center of the store, and the perfectly located Reception/Information Desk. As for the shops, meh. Yet again, almost every mall I've been to is a "meh" on that accord. And yes, I answered to myself that when I review a mall I must do it, in part, by the stores they have. I've seen more Fanzz, Zumiez, Pretzelmaker, Downeast, Zag's, Lids, AT&T, Verizon, Aeropostale, Eddie Bauer, Kay Jewelers, Buckle, GameStop, Kay Jewelers, etc. then I ever wanted or needed to see in my life. University Place also gave me this redundancy. However, they do have some awesome originals such as The Mini Moustachery (a locally owned men's facial hair care shop), a business development company (Tribalry), Best in Music (sheet music, guitars, amps, ukuleles), Al's Sporting Goods (perhaps the best SG store in Utah), The Orchard (a park within the mall), Kid's Place (a GIGANTIC indoor play place), and the mishmash of Peruvian wonder known as Runa. There's enough here to label this a very good mall. I hope more local establishments find a home here. read more

This is a decent mall to shop at. It is located in a very busy part of Orem so can be very busy with parking because all the restaurants outside of it and can be hard to get in and out of the parking lot because of busy streets especially around Christmas time. I love the updates they have done to this mall. I've come to it since I was little so I remember some of the drastic changes that have been done and sadly some stores I've loved that are gone. Recently visited and Teavana and the Chocolate store are gone sadly. I love mall with a candy store but unfortunately now this one is missing one. Hopefully someone else will put a candy store in. They have lots of great stores though from buckles, Victoria secret, forever 21, Disney store, build a bear, great things for the whole family with lots of restaurants and other stores super close. There is a lot of work going in to making this mall stay relevant. They have a brand new kids play area that is great for indoor and outdoor play. The new garden is also nice. Biggest complaint is that Sees chocolates is no longer right next to he play area. read more

University Mall could be something great, but it just isn't. The selection of stores, the condition of the property, it all lacks what fashion place mall and city creek have. Granted, there are huge plans in the work for the University Mall Property, but as of this point, having an H&M and Victoria's Secret won't get you a 5 star rating from me. Don't get me wrong, this location is beyond convenient. But honestly, this doesn't matter to me because I have no motivation or desire to go there. Aside from the Food Court, PF Changs and Victoria's Secret, there isn't a single store in that mall that i'm interested in. However, the food selection is fantastic. Cold Stone Creamery, P.F. Changs, Chick-Fil-A, this mall has a pretty decent selection of food. Aside from the food, it does have a few specialty stores including popular brands like H&M, Victoria's Secret, Vans, Gap, Bare Minerals, etc. The parking is adequate most of the time. It is located closely to a lot of restaurants and a newer movie theater just north east of the property. My hope is that this new development goes in that it draw bigger and better stores to this mall. They are currently building a Chipotle and a few other retailers right east of Carrabas, so that will be exciting. It's about time Utah County got a Chipotle. Long story short, if you are bored and desperate go to university mall. If you are looking for quality clothing or any real designer brand names, you better head on up to fashion place or city creek. read more

I never look forward to going to this mall. To be honest, I never look forward to going to any mall. They're crowded, parking is bad, people walk slow, prices are high, and the customer service is usually below average. This particular mall is worse than your average mall. Compared to other malls, University Mall has fewer entrances/exits to the parking lots. There are far from enough parking spots and the layout of the parking spots is absolutely terrible. They have several intersections in the parking lot with no stop signs or yield signs, so driving in their lots is even worse than driving on the city streets. Once you're in the mall it can be challenging to find a directory. The food selection is so-so. Like every other mall in America, they have Sbarro's pizza and an Orange Julius. But what they don't have is a Mrs. Fields Cookies. I know, it's shocking. Everything in there costs a small fortune. Costco is nearby, so I would recommend their food court over the University Mall food court and take your savings and buy an LCD television. They do have a lot of places to sit which is nice. That's about all I can say that I liked about this mall. Anyway, good luck. read more

Its a mall. Ok well its closed on Sundays.....Towncenter mall is not closed on Sundays and that's the one that is in Provo -Go figure. I really want to give university mall a great review because I want to love it. However I don't. I just don't. It has a good number of restaurants within its area most of which are perfectly fine. There is a Cinamark movie theater which is "part" of the University Mall however its is not actually connected. Only has two large dept stores. It used to have three but Mervens closed a couple of years ago. To add to that the Nordstrom will be moving away here shortly. That leaves only the Macy's which is definitely not the greatest. Also there is a small art museum up stairs near the South West end that is run by Utah Valley University. Like I said i want to love this mall it just doesn't do it for me. read more

They have a great selection of stores & eateries. The bathrooms are very nasty!! They always have over flowing trash, empty seat covers or toilet seat covers. Toilet paper or trash on the floor. The counters are never wiped down, nor the sinks. The trashcans inside and our are always over flowing. The floors seem to always be nasty. Most of the upholstery needs to be redone. So many holes and stains. If it wasn't for the very nice selection of stores I'd never go there. They need a nicer & cleaner cleaning staff. read more

University Place - Food Court Entrance - Shopping Centers Near Me - Orem, Utah

I am disappointed with University Mall for many reasons, with poor selection of stores being one of them. The second reason I don't like this mall is that it seems really desperate for stores and has allowed many shady businesses to move in and do whatever they want and offer anything they want at any price so you've got to watch out for uncleanliness, and rip-offs. The nail salon inside the food court should be frequently visited by health inspectors but doesn't. They do unsanitary work, going from one client to another with the same dirty tools, and when customers bring it up to the mall management, they refuse to do anything about it. Premier by Dead Sea that is located at the center of the main hallway is the perfect example of a rip-off store at University Mall, so look out. They've got pushy sale reps shoving one product after another in your face, pitching about creams and lotions that you could get online for $5-$15 at a whooping $150-$200 and once you've been sweet-talked into making the transaction, you will never get a single penny back because their purchases are final, and they don't tell you that. The sinister thing is I always see these money hungry sale reps go after nervous high school/college kids and people that still haven't developed the "no thanks" muscle. Additionally, there isn't a Yelp or any online feedback platform to warn people about this store. Don't believe me? Look it up...you won't find any information on their store. Also, pay Premier by Dead Sea a visit next time you're here, let them push products on you and price-check Amazon, you'll see that their prices are 1000 - 2000% marked up. Thirdly, University Mall tends to be filled up with a lot of children that screams and run around and teenagers that have got nothing better to do but hang out at the mall mess with people. It's a zoo on busy weekends. All in all, if you could make it to Fashion Place or City Creek, avoid this mall. If you must, come here early mornings when it's empty. read more

Also, everywhere you look is a young couple pushing a stroller with two or three kids and expecting another on the way. Got to love those Mormons. They might not drink, smoke or do drugs, but they know how to have sex and keep their women barefoot and pregnant! My son had a very upsetting experience with a business in UP (Spa 8) and I reached out to management days ago and still haven't heard from Griff. Very poor customer service in my opinion. The experience was so upsetting that I called our bank and had the charge marked as fraud. Bullying should not be allowed by employee's at the mall. When I first moved here, I thought this place was it. Unfortunately, I think I was only comparing it to the tweeny/teeny/horny band kid hangout of a mall, Provo Towne Centre. While University Mall has the main stores I shop at, that only accounts for two stores. But holy crap, there are jewelry stores on practically every corner of the place....and of course they always have customers - especially during spring - good night! People like to get engaged once the weather tops the 50s. Overall, many of the stores cater to the same demographic as Provo Towne Centre, only here there is no movie theater to hang out at (which will change in the upcoming months as they're building one as I write). So it's pretty much just the same as PTC but with a few more high-end stores catered to a slighter older crowd. The benefit is that they have three restaurants attached to the mall, and other restaurants scattered close to the mall. CPK, PF Changs, and the Spaghetti Factory all help shoppers to take a load off from all of their shopping to enjoy some food. Oh wait, except I can get my shopping done in a matter of 30 minutes thanks to the lack of selection for my taste (wow - that sounds snobby - I'm not, I swear). They do have a decent food court, even though I opt to not venture over in those parts because that area of the mall still has a lingering smell of mildew from when many of the stores were flooded and the huge play area for kids became rank. They eventually had to take it out because the smell was still horrible, but even now there are remnants of it. Anyway, as the first revew for this mall said, it's nothing special. It's a standard mall - complete with kids on leashes, a 14-year old and her far too-old-for-her boyfriend wearing matching skater shoes, grandma and grandpa making laps around the place for exercise, and the 48-year old mother trying to fit in with her daughter's group of friends. read more

This mall is amazing, though there is a stand that had recently popped up inside. This stand is called Pure Strength. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM! They sell wristbands that are a "mineral" based, and are meant to help with health and well-being. These wristbands are a placebo. The man working there said he would sell me the wristband for $10 and that there was a 30 day money back guarantee. I went back just today (a week later) to get my money back, and he told me "Sorry, we don't do that anymore. You can switch it out for a different one, but we can't give you your money back". I was a bit angry that this man promised me my money back and then denied me. The horrible part is that I can not report him to the BBB, because I never got a receipt, and also never got the guarantee in writing. I moved here from Houston in May '08. Being from a big city I found University Mall to be a bit small, but very friendly and inviting. Aside from the quaint architecture, the people walking around inside and out offer nice smiles that you rarely find in a giant mall in a giant city. Simply seeing so many friendly faces makes the trip to this mall worth it. The first time i entered Hot Topic I was quickly greeted and helped. The employee noticed I wasn't from around here and began telling me about places of possible interest; the employee also gave me a small discount and a discount card for future use. Really cool. The second store i visited was GameStop. Again, I was greeted and helped quickly. I had no idea what game my son was talking about, so needless to say I felt lost in the store; however, the employee that helped me was very nice and (obviously) knew exactly what game my son wanted. Nice. Then i get home and not 15 minutes into playing the game my son knocked his console over and scratched the game up. I reluctantly returned to the mall and told the employee what had happened hoping that mercy would be shown... and it was. The game was replaced with no hassles. I was so impressed by the professionalism of the employee i actually called his boss and gave him kudos. Now we come to Bath & Body Works. Again, quickly greeted (are you noticing the quasi-redundancy of my experiences here?), very friendly with not a hit of snobbery. More than one employee came to my aid as i inquired about a favorite fragrance I couldn't find anywhere in the store. One employee actually searched the store for this particular scent and found what i was looking for. This is a very far cry from what one would experience in a Houston mall... unless you're super rich. :P What more can i say? Sure the mall is small and yes, as Erin Q. pointed out, there are way too many jewelry stores however the positives far outweigh the negatives. Which leads me into my next opinion: the review you read beneath mine is highly negative. I mean this chic is complaining quite passionately about a MALL! Hello?! Are we 4? Sorry princess that you can't stand the smell, the older people getting their exercise (maybe you'll understand why they do that when you're that old), and the 14 year old girls (rather, the girls you ASSUME are 14... remember what they say about assumptions) with their way to old boyfriends. We have never experienced anything like this in all the years we have been coming to this mall, we were told that my kids 9 and 7 years of age could not wear their Heelys shoes because of the wheel that they have on the heels of the shoe, that it says on the doors of the entrances, when all it sais is skateboards and rollerblades are prohibited. And we were told that we would be asked to never go back to that mall because I disagreed with him. First of all they are shoes, they are not rollerblades and they are not skateboards. He said he told my kids once when that's bull shit, my kids said they were told once, second the security said he told them as well, when I clearly said we walked twice by you and didn't even look at us because you were sitting on the bench on your phone. Then he said he pointed at my kids and if he did, what would that mean to the kids, obviously nothing. And all my kids said at the end as I was getting frustrated was mom well just never come back it's ok. I didn't think shoes were not allowed at the mall. read more
