So I lived in two different properties managed by westen investments for a year and a half in 2017…read morewhile I finished my bachelors at wiu. I cannot recommend them enough, maintenance work was always done promptly & done well. One of the houses I lived in was built over 50 years ago, so yeah shit breaks, but the maintenance guys are righteous dudes. Rent never went up, every staff member I met with was nothing but helpful & friendly in every regard. They were even able to pair me up with another reliable roommate to lower my costs. My $300 deposit was given back to me at $167, they tell you right up front that carpet cleaning will cost $100. So that's great as well. There were never any "surprise inspections", hidden costs, or fees. Everything was clear & they kept their word on everything. If macomb wasn't macomb, I would be extremely loyal to westen & choose no one else. A couple things I will mention, at one of the properties I lived at, the fence around my patio was torn down & heavy & loud ground construction was done, so my lovely field of grass in my backyard turned into a field of thick mud that was kinda lame, but hey renovations are a good thing right. & they tour where ever you are living at to other prospective tenants while you are still living there, so you may have (with 24 hour notice) tours of people walking through your house almost year round every other week. It happened to me, & besides them telling me I can't sit on the roof of my house, that was the worst part of westen. Besides that they take incredible care of their tenants & will work with you very hard to be flexible with things & give you a fair bit of options (move in dates) (Move out dates), I had 2 felony cannabis charges & still was able to get a 6 month lease, & treated with respect. & when I needed stay a few extra days before moving out, I was charged a pro rated $30 a day. & at the end I got a same day & excellent rental referral. So there ya go :)

Terrible apartment complex run terribly. People are constantly getting drunk, knocking on your door…read moreand waking you up by screaming in the middle of the night. There was a shooting so if you want to pay almost $1000 for a building that was shot up and they never got security they promised this is the perfect place for you. Instead of fixing any of the actual problems in the building, they just added a workout area. Working the trash that's already broken half the time.. they've not fixed the guest Wi-Fi in a month so the printer or TV don't work. Young America is the devil, and I regret signing with them and now regret going to ISU every day because of them making my college experience miserable. Honestly, if you can't find anywhere else, but young America, I would recommend just considering going to a different college. This experience has been so miserable. Sure that people who work there are nice, but they can't break any of the stupid rules. You also don't wanna live in the 701 building because they have a homeless problem.

Update: 12/09/2021 I decided to update this because they…read morestopped crediting my account with a discount and the problem is still not resolved. My bathroom is starting to have black mold everywhere because when the dryer is on it sends all the hot moist air into my bathroom.. so ontop of having the mold problem we had to pay more all of the summer to battle the humidity and heat of the dryer putting back into our apartment. Also the dishwasher has been broken for months with them "fixing" it multiple times and then it flooding our apartment. Update: 10/04/2021 Possible resolution after Speaking with Tanisha. I have been told that the mold will be taken care of tomorrow and that I will be credited an amount while the issue is being resolved. In the meantime I will get a fan from homedepot to ventilate the bathroom so the mold will not come back. They will reimburse me for the fan after showing receipt of the purchase. Once the issue is resolved I will update the review. **I believe the reviews are saturated with fake reviews to overwhelm the bad reviews** Look at most of the 5 star reviews.. Their only review is the flats.. I moved in August 1st and there were a couple of issues but the most substantial was there wasn't any ventilation in the bathroom causing there to be mold. My roommates said the previous tenant had the same issue and that they just painted over it before I moved in. I put in 4 maintenance requests for the same issue. First request: they tested to see if the exhaust fan was pulling by placing a piece of toilet paper against vent. It couldn't even pull a square of TP. It was replaced with a different exhaust fan. It still couldnt. So it must be a blockage in the vents. They painted over the mold. Also when anyone ever uses the dryer in our unit it shoots all the hot wet air into my bathroom. Causing the mirror to be fogged up and the ceiling to drip water. Second request: mold is everywhere.. they did not send anyone over or paint over the mold. Marked ask resolved. Third Request: put on: in progress status.. a month later.. marked as resolved without anyone coming by.. mold has grown.. Fourth request: put on: in progress and then 2 days later marked as resolved. Called office about the issue and they said that maintenance needed to resolve it. Additional notes: WIFI connection is always in and out ,but the Lan seems to work very well though.

I am a new resident, and so far I have had a terrible time with Sami. For starters, I agreed to do…read moreearly move in. I moved in and the first thing I noticed in my apartment was that there was black mold on a wall in the living room, then I found more spots throughout the apartment. So ofcourse I call the office, to get immediate help for them to clean the mold off the walls. They told me that maintenance will be doing further inspections later in the week and that they will "try" to get someone out today. However, I can't just up and leave and go stay with a family member or a friend while I wait on Sami maintenance to take care of it. I tell them this, and they are like "well you have two options, either wait for maintenance to come out and clean it or return your keys and move back in, on the official move in date." Which would've been in June. I'm sorry but not everyone has the luxury to go and stay with a family member or a friend. It's extremely shitty to disregard a residents living situation and not take care of the problem immediately and not argue with the resident and be shitty towards them about it. So I kept telling them this; that I need someone here today to clean it, because I have asthma and chronic bronchitis, and I am going to get terribly sick because of the mold. To fast forward a little bit, they ended up sending maintenance out eventually, however the manager for maintenance, was telling me that if health inspection came into the apartment, they would say it's "livable". Which that's completely crazy, I had to call the health department for normal township and the health inspector said otherwise and plus they found water damage in one of the bedrooms. Also to note throughout the entire interactions I had with Sami employees in the office, they were rude, non sympathetic and just overall disgusting towards me. Secondly, I have two cats with me at this time, one of them: I am pet sitting for and the other is my service animal. Maintenance, told them that I have two cats, Sami office employees said "Hey, when maintenance was in the unit--they noticed their was a cat. The building is actually pet friendly, but you have to properly register it and pay for it before the animal is supposed to be in the apartment. Do you just have one cat or 2? We can send the pet form to your email. It is $300/pet." $300 per pet!!!??? What the hell is $300 covering and why that much for a cat? Like I have no problem filling out a form for my service pet, and the second cat is gonna be on its way back home next week but why charge residents $300 for a cat?? Like wth, plus when I was just in the office, I was telling Natalie that I didn't know pet sitting wasn't allowed and I just can't get rid of the cat, like I was paid to pet sit and the pet will not have a place to go. She just kept shrugging her shoulders and being disgusting towards me about it. Natalie has an unprofessional attitude in general, if you have been working your job for this long you should know how to have proper customer service skills and not act rudely. Customer service is about growing rapport, being respectful and have a good attitude and a good smile on your face! Overall there is just complete unprofessionalism happening in that office, and something needs to be done about it. How can you be okay with yourself and talk to people the way I have been spoken to!!!
