I am a local and am so thankful this little gem made it through the pandemic. They offer a large variety of beautiful yarns at a fair price. The staff is always helpful, even willingly helping with my mistakes, and it is a fun store to browse. Yarns of so many colors and textures it is hard to walk out the door with just one project in my shopping bag. If only I were a faster knitter! I always love poking into LYSs wherever I travel, and this one didn't disappoint. I was helped by two friendly women, who chatted with me a bit as they wound my selection. Their stock is varied, and I would have spent more time looking at things, except my very patient husband was waiting on one of the comfy couches in the shop. What a bummer! I was visiting Savannah on our vacation to Hilton Head Island, SC and went by the yarn shop only to find it CLOSED on Tuesday and Thursday!! I was thoroughly disappointed, because I like this shop. Owner needs to add more hours, I mean seriously who closes their shop in the middle of the week for two days!!! Oh well, I learned a lesson to ALWAYS call before I drive to a shop, maybe they will change their hours. I did manage to find a shop open and made a purchase - sorry Unwind it could have been at your shop, if you were open! read more

The shop owners of Unwind are friendly and helpful. The store is well-stocked with a variety of yarns in different weights, fibers, and price points, as well as a variety of wood and metal needles from popular manufacturers. Not only that, but the store stocks more than enough of each yarn for the fiber enthusiast to make a (large) sweater with (such is not the case with some other Savannah yarn shops). The store features comfortable sofas in which a knitter (or crocheter) can sit, engage in her fiber hobby, and schmooze with other fiber enthusiasts. Copies of knitting magazines are available to peruse as well as the latest magazines for purchase. As for the reviewer who criticized Unwind for its store hours, it is my experience that yarn shops typically are NOT open seven, or even five days a week. Unwind, which is run by three lovely ladies who have full-time jobs elsewhere, and who work at the shop on their days off, is open late (until 8pm) on Monday nights, and until 6pm Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, as well as on Sundays from noon to 4pm. First visit in this lovely yarn store yesterday. Their very friendly staff helped me pick out my project using some of their beautiful yarn. I was able to get some help through messaging the store on facebook when I came to a trouble spot on the pattern. They helped me right through it. I live about 40 minutes outside of town, so this was a huge help. I definitely recommend this store to get some gorgeous yarn. My sister and I went there this past Saturday and walked into the store and we were not greeted. There was only one customer in the store and the decent thing to do was for the salesperson to at least acknowledge our presence. She looked us both in the eye and did not speak. In fact I was so shocked by this behavior that I though she was a customer! It made us feel like because we are African American we didn't deserve the right to be acknowledged. We did buy something after the associate approached me 5 minutes later! I'm so angered by her behavior that I'm considering returning the items I purchase!
