This review is not written in a revenge attempt. I've barely even written reviews before. However, I hope this would help others be very careful when considering this shop.
If I were to describe the quality of the haircut received in this shop, the word "atrocious" would be the one I would choose. $25 + txs + tip for the worst haircut (by a large margin) in 20 years! That is not a $10, cheap experiment (which I would not attempt anyway). In all honesty, even if they would offer me free haircuts for the rest of the year to make up for it, I would not go back there. Seriously!
This is a small, cozy, 3-chairs barber shop. The banter was friendly and the owner was making the customers feel welcome. However, I personally don't care too much about a salon's decor or the banter....I care mostly about the quality of the haircut. This is the main reason I'm going to a hairdresser. I'm not too fussy either and my haircut is fairly simple, short on the sides and the back with a bit trimmed off on the top. The lady who cut my hair dived right in, army style, with the electric clipper set on a standard length, all around my head. Ah, and the chairs are pointed towards the middle of the room while they're cutting your hair, one is unable to see the mirrors on the wall. I haven't seen this approach before. Anyway, I had my suspicions that I'll be crying at the end when she started that way. NO OTHER hairdresser I've gone to before has ever done it this way. Yes, most start with the clipper, but using it gently and simultaneously employing a comb to guide the clipper, rather than using a pre-set length. The end result was a pretty short, pathetic looking and unequal haircut (I wonder how she managed that performance, give the standard length setting on the clipper). I could have asked a neighbor to do that for free, with pretty much a similar result, if not better.
The owner has clearly read my disappointment, even though I was polite and tried to keep it to myself mumbling that it's ok (although I felt like punching the walls). To his credit, he's offered to fix anything, if I wanted it. However, I think he should assume responsibility when selecting those whom he allows to cut hair in his establishment and therefore represent his business. If he was ok with letting that lady cut hair under his roof, I did not want to risk any further. Maybe I should have given him a chance, but at that time I did not feel like taking more chances. In my opinion, that person should not be allowed to cut hair and should try finding instead another career.
I'm sorry for this lengthy review, but I wanted the reader to understand my deep and sincere disappointment. I also hope that you'll believe me that this is not a petty attempt to "get back" the business for some minor inconvenience. I would strongly suggest you to go someplace else. At this price (or a few dollars more) there are plenty of choices in Victoria. I picked this place because it was the closest to me, with some decent reviews on Google. read more
