Took my 12 year old here, and it was an absolute disaster. My kids hair was almost to his shoulders. He wanted a medium length shaggy cut. We brought a picture of exactly what he wanted. The stylist Erika completely hacked all of his hair off to above his ears. It looked nothing like the picture. He left there sobbing, and has been hysterically sobbing in his room for hours. We will never go back there again. I can't even understand how a stylist could look at the picture we brought and then cut all the hair off that short, it looked absolutely nothing like it. My poor kid is devastated. read more

I've had my hair cut by pretty much everyone in this place with a few exceptions over the last couple of years. They are all fantastic barbers - each with their own style and vibe. I've never had a bad haircut. The place is a great example of somewhere that all types of people walk into, and everyone is welcome. A special shout out to Beth, who helped my special son learn how to sit still for a haircut and to learn to trust the person with the clippers, and to give him a haircut that is age appropriate. She is the kindest person. When I told my son that we were going to have to use someone else besides Beth because of schedules, he got out of the car and I had to wait for him to reorient to a different reality. He got back in the car, we drove to the BS, and Erica cut his hair and did a bang-up job. I love this place, for the kindness, the laidback atmosphere, and for the good cuts. read more

I've been a customer since you guys opened up and today probably got the worst haircut I've ever had. I went in for a skin fade , and it's really uneven. Sherry usually does an amazing job. A lot of the nice length and shape I had was just flat out butchered. It sucks because I'm doing an event for the National parks playing music for an audience and feel like my confidence is shot. I absolutely LOVE this place. They are wonderful, skilled, easy access and from what I saw not very long wait times. I was especially impressed when they were able to go above and beyond to cut my toddlers hair. He is exceptionally fussy and hard to deal with, and our barber did an amazing job despite the pressure. She even worked outside the box suggesting we bring his high chair to cut his hair and make him more comfortable. I couldn't recommend her enough for fussy children!!! Moved to Bellingham a few months ago and this was my first time getting a haircut in town. I just did a drop in on a Tuesday morning (which is their discount day) I expected there to be a wait, but luckily I got in right away. A young man named Victor gave me a hair cut. He was quick, very attentive to the style and length I wanted. He said he has only been cutting hair for about a year, but it was clear he enjoyed his job. He was friendly, courteous and gave me a great cut. Need a new barber? I would highly recommend Victor and The Barber Shack! read more

My sons and I have been seeing Jared for years! Not only is he an amazing barber/ hair artist, but he knows how to treat hair, scalps, beards, etc. When Jared gave my 2 year old son his first haircut, we showed him the horrible cradle cap he had. He had cradle cap for a year and it was only getting worse. Jared recommended the Barber Shack Beard Oil to use on his scalp, and WOW!! All it took was using it a few times and the cradle cap was cleared-for good. I would spray it on my finger tips and massage it into his scalp. I'd let it sit and then wash it out in the tub. It works wonders! I also use it on my chin and scalp monthly and it helps with keeping the dryness and itchy scalp away. I was hoping for a quick haircut today. I called ahead and asked if they had time for a walk-in cut. The lady on the phone was nice and said something to the effect of "we ALWAYS have time for walk-ins". So I said cool, I will be right down as I up the street, then she quickly added before hanging up that I was probably going to have to wait a few minutes. Still not a problem as a few minutes to wait isn't bad. I get there and inside is a sign-in sheet. Signed my name and noticed there were only 2 names ahead of mine. I waited outside of their shop (no waiting inside even for a cold day)for 1 hour as I watched at least 4 other customer walk-ins get taken in before me for unknown reasons. This was the last straw and I left without a haircut and an hour+ of my day wasted. I have had a cut at this place a few times prior, and they were ok, nothing to brag about as mine is just a buzz/fade type of cut. However, each time I have visited there has been a long wait and much confusion for the sign-in process. Long story short, if you're looking for a quick haircut, this is not the place for you. Super Cuts or Great Clips will be a much better option. read more

Place was packed, had me hoping it was a good spot. Got the laziest half assed cut I've ever gotten while being questioned about Dr.Who and the ghost hallucinations that the barber had been having while zoning in and out of conversation with me. Shaped my beard well, until I got home and realized all of my neck hairs where longer than the bulk of my beard because he couldn't be bothered to brush and clip them like basic skills would suggest. I had an undercut ponytail down to my shoulders and said I needed the damaged end taken off, a couple few inches whatever just leave me enough to tie it off if I need to... so he grabbed it up and cut right at the skull, literally the only direction I gave him was completely ignored, and he didn't even feel the need to texture or hand cut it into and actual haircut, he just snipped my whole ponytail off and said I was good to go. I felt almost like I was being pranked or basically getting pissed on, so I tipped and said wow what a great haircut, best ever! He was visibly surprised and said "really?" Come to find out this was the owner. Coming from a guy who was at times was buzzing his own hair off quarterly for years, this was the worst cut I've ever gotten, seen, or heard of out of a "barbershop" I can't speak of the other barbers there because I thought I saw some decent cuts happening, but I guess the owner needs to retire and focus on his Dr.Who marathon with his trippy ethereal pals. If I was misinformed and this guy wasn't the owner, than the owner needs to spend more time there or sell the joint. If this person was my employee and I laid eyes and ears on the whole visit I had it would be instant termination, no hopes of new tricks for that lazy old dog. read more

My daughter and I popped in on a whim today for a trim for her. She previously donated 14" of hair to Pantene beautiful lengths and her hairstylist tried her best to give her a cool side shave and asymmetrical cut, but wasn't a barber, so we didn't get the clean look we were going for. Classic barber shop except that a lot of the barbers are women. This is one of the larger shops I've been in, and that's a good thing because they're popular and sometimes very crowded. I usually don't have to wait very long on an open chair, but the last time took well over an hour before I was seated. That said, it was their busiest day off the week with discounted fares. I like how they shave my neck to finish the cut. Now if they could only add a 10-second Barber's powered shoulder massage like some places still do. Rates are well within reason, and this is a very family-friendly establishment, so expect kids. read more

Had an appointment with Beth for a haircut and beard trim. Beth has cut my hair before but this is the first time I had her trim my beard. My beard was getting a little shaggy but I only wanted it shaped up since my wife told me she likes it a little longer. I don't know if there was a miscommunication, but Beth DESTROYED my beard. Not only was she unwelcoming and short with me, but she obviously paid no attention to my wishes. She trimmed my beard very short, she might as well have shaved it off. It was too late by the time I realized how short it was going to be. My wife literally cried when I came home after seeing the ruins. Not only is my wife upset, but the stubble left is itchy and uncomfortable for me. Maybe Beth was in a bad mood or having a bad day, but did she have to take it out on me and my beard? my boyfriend went to get his hair cut here yesterday. he came in for a trim i usually cut his hair myself. he came home with the most uneven, unprofessional haircut i've ever seen. BETH is the worst barber i've ever seen. i've never been trained and i can cut hair way better than that. so moral of the story cut your hair yourself instead of going here. not to mention the haircut took 15 minutes in total. Came to BS a few months ago after getting tired of my barber leaving the chair to take a lengthy phone call. The first three cuts (by the same BS barber) were on the money, comparable to the cut I got from Phone Guy. The last time I was in, it was like we'd never met: no discussion before starting and a result that was about as far from the previous three as possible. I've learned the cut I got is called "Meet Me At McDonalds" and I think it looks ridiculous (on me...) As important as getting a cut that I Iike is getting a cut that I like consistently. read more

Went on a Saturday, mediocre haircut. But the worst part about the shop was the barber who decided to bring their yapping chihuahua to work. Consistently barked loudly the whole time, all the barber did was spray it in the face and tell him to lay down. It did nothing. Very unpleasant experience. There was tension between barbers displayed very loudly to everyone there about Cheeko the dog. Poor puppy looked so stressed out :( read more

I told him that I wasn't sure of what I really wanted, a bob perhaps. He was able to recommend and give me a great short bob. They all do a great job. Your desired haircur is put into the computer making it easy for each barber to give you the cut you want. I got a subpar haircut from here several months ago and decided not to return to this place; however, last week when I was in a hurry and needed a haircut I returned. I showed up to the Barber Shack and scheduled an appointment in person and was told to come back in an hour, which is fine by me. The problem is that when I returned after an hour, I then waited an additional 45 minutes before simply leaving and never getting service. Almost 2 hours for a weak haircut...? Why bother? This place should be called the Tweaker Shack based on the crew and I don't recommended wasting time on this place. read more
