Where they tried to get blood out of my hand and blew a vein

Well, I receive a letter from UPMC emergency room today. Of course I was the liar when I went in there the first time I did tell them I was short of breath I would've never went over for just leg. Pain doesn't make sense.! When I went over the first time, I said leg, pain and shortness of breath and my husband can verify that! The lack of care was ridiculous, and the lack of concern ! All I heard the second time how dehydrated I was but never offered any fluids or never offered a glass of water so the nurses need to quit complaining if you're going to complain, do something about it to make the situation better ! I went in there the second time where I couldn't breathe and I walked out eight hours later still couldn't breathe. Who does that? So who investigated this situation you can believe who you wanna believe I could absolutely care less ! The doctors are very unconcerned about anything over there ! They need to get off the computers and off their chairs and maybe move around and check on patients a little more than what they do every time you look out they're all sitting on computers ! Where is the care for the patients? And I'm sure that everybody that sticks there headhead in bills the insurance company that's why insurance rates are out the roof ! I just believe there's no concern for humans In general. When I take my dogs to the veterinarian, they get treated better ! So I wanted to update my review to tell everybody out there. The lack of concern that they have for their patients with a stupid letter they sent me that makes them even look worse. ! I guess I'll be looking for another hospital go to !!

By far the worst hospital I have ever been to. The staff are openly hostile to the patients and clearly regret their choice of profession. They call to mind the stereotype of the jaded police officer ready to eat his gun. The doctors and nurses are condescending, arrogant, and will absolutely refuse to listen to anything you have to say. They will diagnose you without bothering to examine you and argue with you about everything. Extremely unprofessional, incompetent, and apathetic. A disgrace to the healthcare profession. Avoid this place, you will receive no care or compassion here. They will do absolutely nothing beneficial for you and tell you to consult a specialist on your own time. Every second you spend in this "hospital" dealing with these "doctors" is a waste of time. Despicable.

This person was lucky enough to find chairs for a makeshaft bed. Yea, he looks "dead" tired! Everyone else was sitting.

Jamie below was not joking about ER. I was there on the 29th of October 2021. There were people who were there literally sitting more than 15 hours when we got there. There were people who might have checked in but were not treated. The place was literally packed when we checked in around 6:30ish pm. I was blown away by the fact that I, too, sat there 16+ plus hours and many of the people who were there before me were slowly being put into beds around 8 am in the morning 30th Oct 2021 - so you are talking elderly people with no money or little money for food, other people not expecting to be there that long not eating or drinking 15-30+ hours straight sitting upright unattended. My boyfriend was helping some of the elderly ladies out with food. I was post-op from lung surgery, mild Pleural Effusion, coughing, having trouble with breathlessness, and I wasn't even offered oxygen. We assumed since it was a NEW hospital it would not have such a lack of room issues. Wrong! The staff said they had to wait for beds to open up for people, generally upon morning work hours! Staff needs to whip out cots or something, pay people to go around making sure people are at least comfortable, eating, drinking, basic first aid at least. I can see how easily dehydration can cause dizziness, heart palpitations, breathlessness, etc. So, if you are there, for one thing, you're gonna have more issues by the end of the night, plus issues from not eating. If you have to go to the hospital, pack up food and drinks (or take lots of money - the food is very good and very cheap in the cafeteria if they are open). Vending machines run around $1.25 and up for food and drinks. It's a beautiful hospital with nice landscaping, but waiting room comfort is bad. Maybe they need all reclining chairs. People were trying to lie on chairs but since they have handles very few people could lie down. I elected to go home after staff took me in around 9 am because I am deaf and the hospital is not accessible at all to late-deafened or hard of hearing people with no or very little signing skills. If that's how long it takes just for a brief discussion on accessibility, what's it gonna be like getting treated or needing help in a room?

I spent about 2 weeks in and out of the hospital with an infection in my intestine and a hernia as well. I lost roughly 30lbs in a week. I was very sick and I hated feeling as weak as I did. There was the emergency room that you first have to go to to be admitted. The emergency room time passes a little slower in that area to be honest. Once you get a room upstairs I feel like you're treated better and I really appreciate it as I wasn't feeling well. There was a young nurse named Abbi who stuck out because I feel she went above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks again UPMC I'm feeling better and I want to thank Abbi on the third floor as well. Cheers and I hope to see y'all again but at The grocery store somewhere different.

Snoozing comfortably. She will hate that I posted this photo. Lol

Understaffed or inefficient. 5 hours in the ER to get a flipping stitch. Next time I'll just bleed.

I haven't the slightest idea how long this a is going to take in total but there is no sense of urgency anywhere. The nurses burnt noodles in the break room and the whole place smells like that and is freezing because they left the doors propped open for two hours because of the smell. They all thought it was so funny though, they were having a blast, laughing and carrying on...unless you asked for care. then you get an attitude because youte taking them away from the good time in the kitchen. Seriously couldn't be more pissed off with this place.

On Friday when I woke up I saw that it had spread and was larger, so I went to the ER at UPMC York. They confirmed the diagnosis and said they wanted to keep me overnight for observation. The next morning, Saturday 1/18/25 I got an email from the hospital stating since I was not admitted my insurance would not cover the observation. I informed staff that I wanted to speak to someone in their billing department. No one ever came in, however an ENT doctor came in to examine me. He stated that this condition would clear up in a few days to a week and that I should call his office on Monday to follow up. He said I would be going home today and to continue the antibiotics. When I questioned staff when I would be leaving some twit named Megan, I think a nurse, said the doctor wants to keep you another 24 hours for observation!! I said, that's wrong, he said i was going home today. She said we'll you can leave but you need to sign a AMA. I already got the advise from a doctor, and that was, I was going home. I feel that I was discriminated against because of my age and will be consulting with an attorney.

I recently made an apt with the Womens Institute as a new patient after my doctor in Fl ( I am new…read moreto the area) found something abnormal and I needed to get in for a colposcopy and biopsy. The gal that helped me was very friendly and got me in the following week, Wed. Jan 16 at 2 30. I made arrangements to be off work early (not easy as I am a nurse in Case Management and there is nobody to just cover a shift). I was told to arrive thirty min early and I was under the impression that was time that would be spent doing new patient paperwork. I was called back later in the day and told if I would be going through insurance they would need to charge me for two separate appointments, one for a new patient intake and the second for the biopsy. I expressed that I was worried and this biopsy was time sensitive and could not wait several weeks for a second apt. I asked why they could not just charge me for one apt and do the procedure the same day. Being a nurse and working in health care it is know in gynecology that for a WELL WOMAN'S VISIT, because these are free under the affordable care act, you can not have any additional procedures done during that type of visit. Never have I heard of a company charging for a new patient visit and then refusing to do any needed procedure during the visit. I have nothing else to cover in a second visit so there is no need to have a solo first visit. I just had my well visit/pap last month in FL. I questioned this information and the office manager got on the phone. She was raising her voice and speaking in a very unkind tone and she stated "FIRST of all, i know my girls did not tell you you could come in Jan 16 because we have you on for Jan 23, second, never ever have we told any patient they could do their new patient paperwork onsite. That is to be done three days prior. So get your facts straight. " I did not exactly know how to respond, being spoken to this way, especially working in a surgeons office myself. I said to the office manager " I have the date and time written down in three places and had to arrange for a ride and time off work, I can assure you I did not get my dates and time wrong. As for the paperwork I can gladly fax this in now, but I was not told this on the phone." She responded raising her voice even more and laughing "You were not told that. No, you were not." I said to her " Thats ok, can you please just cancel my apt for me? Sorry for any inconvenience." She responded laughing "kindly! " and hung up on me. This message is simply to bring attention to a few things 1. everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, esp when going through a scary time to rule out cancer 2. The girls in the front office that originally made my first apt for me were extremely transparent and admitted to me that if you pay out of pocket they cut you a deal but if you go through your insurance they charge you more in several areas. 3. I never did get an explanation on why I was going to be charged for two apt's and my procedure could not be done the day of my first apt. They continued to tell me you are having two procedures and they need to be billed on seperate days when that was not the case. I was coming in for one single procedure. My insurance is a high deductible plan so why would i pay for two new patient visits at 250 a pop plus a surgical procedure when my doc in fl faxed papers stating i just had a well visit and just needed a quick biopsy? The manager was flat out mean and unprofessional. I can not imagine calling in and having to deal with this if I did not work in health care and somewhat know what was going on. Save your time and care for a practice and health care professionals that are kind, patient and honest. Patients do not deserve to be treated the way I was treated today. :/
