She sees both are kids at once as their bdays are close together…read more She follows the parents lead and I really appreciate that she typically recommends more natural options before jumping into prescriptions whenever appropriate. We first came to her after moving from out of state and our daughter has a very rare genetic condition. We had experienced medical neglect at a previous practice due to the providers pride and pretending to be an expert yet giving us conflicting information every visit (which were frequent). The first time I met doctor smith, she admitted to not knowing much about the condition, asked for me to share my knowledge after acknowledging that I likely knew a lot by that point as it was my child and our experiences. I was very appreciative of this!! She then referred us to experts to check specific things and communicated very well with said experts. She's a true advocate for her young patients and listens to parents so well. Also worth nothing that if you choose to follow traditional schedules or delay shots/opt out, this is a very supportive office regardless of choice.

On two occasions, we had a bad experience with Dr. Castallan. He did follow up on the phone after my one week old's appt but then forgot about the follow up appointment he scheduled and left the practice right as we were pulling in 15 minutes early. We sat in the waiting area while the front desk called him to ask him if he was planning to return to see his patient that he scheduled. He didn't return and asked them to schedule us see another doctor instead because he forgot about our appt. Luckily we were able to see Dr. Stoltzful that day who is wonderful. Recently, he refused to see my child when we arrived 10 min late to an appt. The front desk checked us in and noted on file that we completed check in BEFORE the 15 min late policy but he still refused to see us. I understand issues with being late but when I asked to speak with someone because we clearly were checked in before their 15 min late posted policy, Dr. Castellan was the person to actually come out and speak with me. I'm disappointed that he chose to not see my child but still used that time to argue with me about needing to arrive early for appointments and had no answer to my posted policy question or to my question about why it was ok to make us wait in the reception area for over 20 minutes the other two times we did arrive early for appointments within the past two weeks. I think his priorities are misaligned with a truly caring pediatrician's priorities and as a result, we switched practices. The front staff here is wonderful though and super helpful but they're not doctors so we needed to switch to a more caring establishment.
