While visiting the Cape, I dropped into UCCF for a Saturday morning workout. The WOD was the hero workout "Victoria", which kick my butt. The coach for the WOD was great. He led us through a very thorough warm-up and reviewed all the movements for the workout. The athletes at UCCF were very welcoming and encouraging. I have been a member of four crossfit gyms since I started three years ago, only because I have moved that much and crossfit has helped me in more than just fitness. Not only am I stronger than I was as a division 1 college athlete 20 years ago, but I can do things I would never had tried or thought of trying. Because crossfit is a community that moves, I have never felt embarrassed or out of place. I started crossfit because I was bored at a regular gym and needed a fresh approach to my fittness. Everything is fresh and creative here. I knew a couple in their 70's who tried crossfit after years of doing triathlons and they said they recovered quicker and had better times. So crossfit is worth a try for any athlete. I can't say enough about this gym. The coaches are excellent and patient. They focus on doing the movements correctly instead of quickly. The program is challenging no matter what your fittness level. You will get fit. I have a toddler who loves to come and play with friends. The members are friendly and encouraging. I've bee going to UCCF for 3+ years during the summer and sporadically throughout the year when on the Cape. I always drop in to different boxes when traveling on business. I can say with confidence that they are in the top tier of Crossfit boxes. Good structured warm-up, great movement instruction/coaching, great weekend partner WODs, clean, good equipment. I started my membership here 3 weeks ago and love it. Unlike other gyms in the area, they have A LOT of options in terms of class times. 4 classes in the morning and 4 classes in the evening. Prices are very economic and it really kicks your butt. The instructors are amazing at getting you motivated and focusing on someone like me, who has never properly worked out before therefore has horrible form. I have figured out which times have less people so as a beginner, I try to attend those to I get plenty of instruction from the instruction but even during packed classes, the instructor has come over to me to point out what I am doing wrong. Everyone knows what they are talking about, the whole group is super friendly. A lot of the long time members tend to help new comers as well and the owners mike and greg make sure everyone meets everyone else. I look forward to getting better at the work outs! I must warn you that walking into UCCF (Upper Cape CrossFit) is not like walking into any typical gym you've been too. First off arriving here requires you to drive on to one of beautiful Cape Cod's 2 or 3 hidden industrial areas, and up to a seemingly innocent garage door. Secondly when you walk all kinds of "untraditional" gym activities are going on throughout their facility. Depending on the day you might see people throwing heavy weight above their heads, doing pullups like they are trying to rescue themselves from quick sand, jumping rope so fast it sounds like a helicopter is escaping from their bodies, and then of course the occasional person throwing themselves on the ground just to jump back up in the air and do it all over again (that's a burpee by the way... don't ask, just experience). Oh, and then of that wasn't scary enough right over the top of the front desk is a Trident (yep, a god-damned trident, Poseidon the brother of Zeus's weapon) sticking out of the wall. At this point, I get it if you want to turn around and run... but DON'T, and let me tell you why: At first glance you may think that these movements came naturally to those individuals in front of you, but I can assure you that is just not the case; and this is what separates UCCF and CrossFit from the rest of those "Globo Gyms" you've seen. That lady doing pullups has worked 14 months to get there and is doing it with such furor because she is just ecstatic that she can, the weightlifter walked into UCCF with no mobility and is now going for a new personal best on that lift, the one jumping rope is ideally me in 2 more months of hard work, and that guy doing the burpees, well some things just can't be explained. What can be said about UCCF immediately though is that it is a community who all desire your success. You are not walking into a gym, but instead a collective that cares for your personal well-being. You walk into a place where people know your name, your strengths, and encourage you to work on your weaknesses. You walk into a place where someone who was on vacation last week finds the time to congratulate you on your previous success today, because genuinely they are excited for you. Most importantly though, you walk into UCCF to work out with some of the best coaches around. The owner (Amy) can be seen day in and day out giving advice on form, nutrition, on the spot corrections and without a doubt enough energetic motivation to make you want to work! I have no doubt that each and every coach I have worked with at UCCF has had my physical well-being as their number one priority over anything else and my successes are thanks to their hard work also. If you haven't done CrossFit before, come on down and give it a try; if you have, come on in and see what makes UCCF superior to the rest. read more

I've been a member of UCCF for just over a year and can't say enough good things about this place. I had planned on trying out other Boxes before joining, but after my first basics class with Coach Gator and my first WOD with Coach Amy, my mind was made up. Without question the best part of this gym is the sense of community fostered by the coaches and members. There is a genuine feeling that the coaches and your peers are invested in your improvement. On more than one occasion I've seen people erupt in applause after a member accomplished a goal they had diligently been working on for the past few weeks or even months. The coaches accommodate athletes of all ages and ability levels, and make a point to speak with everybody when they arrive and depart. If you're a seasoned Crossfitter or someone who has been thinking about trying it out, your sure fire bet will be UCCF. read more

The coaches not only say hi when you arrive but greet you by name. This gym has created a comfortable atmosphere that feels like a home away from home for a lot of its members. The coaches are very knowledgeable and always able to motivate you to your next level, while the members are supportive but able to spark your competitive side. I've visited several other Crossfits and this gym is quite large with enough room for a big class and space left over to work on individual skills or mobility. The equipment is in good condition and the owners are always adding, innovating and improving, showing they care about their clients and their gym. After 3 years I am much stronger then when I started, but above all I found my "Cheers". Somewhere I always want to go and everybody knows my name. I love it here! read more

Being in our "late 50s and 60s," (oh my!) my husband and I were not sure what to expect when we decided to try Cross Fit. Soon after arriving, however, we found Upper Cape Cross Fit to be a very comfortable and welcoming place! Amy, our coach, was so helpful to us right from the beginning and has continued to guide us through each workout. She and the other coaches are always there to help us to make any modifications that may be needed. We have enjoyed getting to know all the other members there as well! Everyone is very supportive and a lot of fun to work out with! I have been waiting awhile to join crossfit for several reasons money, schedule, self doubt, and the fact of choosing the right box with the right coaches and the right members to make your active life that much easier. Let me tell you I could not be happier that I finally settled down and made the decision to go to Upper Cape Crossfit. 1 The box (gym) is incredible. Tons of space for big group workouts different rooms with different options for your style, ropes, tires, rowers, bikes you name it they are not lacking it. 2. Not only are the coaches knowledgeable beyond belief but they are truly some of the most personable people I have met in my life, the energy and positivity they bring to class will leave you feeling accomplished with every wod or movement you struggle to do. 3. The members at Upper Cape Crossfit are more than welcoming and they show up everyday with open arms and a can do attitude even if they can't. I have only attended this gym for 2 months going on 3 and have met tons of new people made tons of new friends and nothing feels better than a group of people chanting for you to do your best. If your wondering whether or not to jump into to crossfit I highly suggest Upper Cape Crossfit to start your journey to a new you and I promise you will not regret it!
