Dr. Mesfin and his team are phenomenal. My fur baby woke up and was bleeding from her mouth. I panicked as I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. It was recommended that I take her to an Emergency Vet. I took a chance and stopped by the office as my girl is rather timid and I knew she would feel more comfortable with her regular vet. Not only did Dr. Mesfin see us, with no appointment, he diagnosed the issue quickly (an oral tumor that required excision), rearranged his schedule, took her in, and performed surgery same day. This was on a Friday of a holiday weekend!! I literally was crying leaving out of the office as I was so relieved. I can't thank Upper Marlboro Veterinary Hospital for the care they provided. I called before I came to ask about renewing our prescription for NexGard Plus for heartworm, ticks and fleas. The person I spoke with (didn't get her name) said it would cost $133.63 or $268 thru September. When I came to pick up the prescription through September the woman at the front desk charged me $400. I told her what I was told when I called_ and she said that was wrong. I still don't feel certain that I paid the right price as the difference between the two prices thru Sept. Is significant. Thanks for asking for my feedback on my visit. My feedback is my opinion that there should not be a cat in a place frequented by dogs. When I mentioned yesterday that the cat was stressing my dog out (he was alert and growling), there was concern expressed for the cat, but not for the dog. The cat was removed from the waiting room, but we were on standby for the possibility of the cats return. The cat stresses the dog out, and that stresses me out. And then there's a sign as you exit saying don't let the cat out. It just seems like a lot of responsibility placed on the customer to accommodate the cat. Thanks read more

Our dog had a sudden injury. We needed an emergency appointment and this clinic made time for us. This was the week of the fourth of July. No one else would see us. The were prompt, professional and friendly. My doh screamed during the whole process. She's kind of a drama queen. They were very sweet to her the entire time. They trimmed and bandaged her injured toe. Gave us medication. Made sure she was okay before we left. She has since made a full recovery. We also followed up with the clinic so they could remove her bandages. I will be bring my fur friend back here again the next time she needs an appointment. I would definitely refer them to a friend. I tried establishing care with this vet when i first got my dog as an engagement gift from my partner. They scheduled my new patient appointment for a week out so i went somewhere with sooner availability but wanted to also get care from them since they were closer. I go in to get a prescription filled and spoke to the receptionist about future care. She informed me that i could get microchipping and spaying done if i brought my dog in and had the doctor take a quick look not a formal exam. I bring her in the woman looks her over feels her up and then has me hold her down and makes 3 attempts at sticking a thermometer up her rear. She gets the temperature and asks me if i would to move forward with additional shots at 173$. I say no we were told to come in and have them do a once over and there would be no charge. She says alright have a good day. I call them to schedule the spay and the" office manager" advises that in order for me to "establish care" i have to pay 81$ and then they'll let me schedule her to do the service. They also then state that their representative was incorrect in telling me that. I think it's bad business practice to so diligently pressure someone to pay when you've already established the fault was on your representative. And would like to be contacted by the vet as soon as possible. I am a first time pet owner but i am not new to customer care i work in hospital administration. read more

UPDATE TO RESPOND TO BUSINESS COMMENT: Thanks for your message. I am aware that heart murmurs can occur at any age and for any reason, and are commonly attributed to old age in dogs. However as I mentioned, the staff was informed that a heart murmur was detected prior to the administration of anesthesia. Therefore, there was some kind of negligence performed or no wellness exam was taken before he went under for a dental cleaning. I also asked to be informed of the outcome of the wellness exam to let me know if it were safe to move forward and no one called. I am still incredibly angry at the lack of care that was provided to my dog. He is now dead -- possibly prematurely in my opinion. His name was Dexter-Jackson. Please do better. You and your staff. No one should take their pet in for something routine and come back with the outcome I did. read more

The vet tech and front staff were wonderful. Unfortunately the vet didn't seem interested in my concerns and had poor people skills. His ability to connect with my dog was equally poor. I would have liked him to see him engage positively with my dog and to show him some compassion. He was all business. Update: The vet has been lying to clear his name. I stated I would pay. He did call after 2 pm stating he could administer his medicine, but I had to be there at 3pm. No flexibility after all the inconsistency and false information provided by his staff. I actually stated i would have paid but did not know he needed an appointment since this was not stated when I called to ask the procedure on Monday. My actual statement was please give my cat this medicine since i adhered to what was told to me on Monday and I'll make an appointment. Note my cat has cancer for the 2nd time. Needs the vitamins due to the constant vomiting and extreme weight loss. The vet was well aware as i have paid for multiple surgeries, radiation and chemo. Why would I deny my pet help over a few hundred dollars. Doesn't make sense. Please read their response to my Google review. Note their reasoning is different. Nothing I stated was a lie. The vet called and emailed to get me to delete my review. I will not and glad due to their response and lies. Nothing I stated was false. Instead of accepting accountability, he continues to blame the client for them providing false information. The time should be spent on better service. Lastly Prince had two different types of Cancer over the last 2.5 years. Never once did anyone call to see how he was doing. Glad I left and found a vet that listens. Today I called asking about someone administering my cat his B12 shot. I was told on Monday that all I had to do was call and ensure it was not busy and someone would give Prince his medicine. I was also told that the office usually does not do this but will for a $30 fee. As I was told, I called today at 12:30. I spoke to Angela who stated now Prince needs an appointment. I told her this was not stated on Monday and the oncologist stated he needs his medicine each week. I asked are you stating you will allow Prince to miss his dose of medicine. Angela stated yes, he needs an appointment. I also told her he had a full check up at his oncologist and internal doctor within the last month and she could call for records. She stated he needs a check up here. You would think knowing his health status was important not making money. Guess not. So now due to miscommunication my cat is not getting his medicine. I have to scramble to find a new vet. Angela and the teams total lack of concern for Prince is troubling. I have no problem making an appointment. I would have made it on Monday, but he needs his medicine today. They just lost a client. I need a doctor's office who provides appropriate information the first time, listens and shows concern. I appreciate the kindness from the techs. They remember my animals names and always seem excited to see them and show concern for my concerns. The doctor does not show the same. He was not quick to hear my concerns, he does not take the time to explain what he plans to do or why, and he is not conscientious when it comes to charging for things. He will charge you for the most expensive food or for treatment without knowing first what's going on. I want to feel safe with my veterinarian and I no longer feel that way. read more

We followed him from Waldorf to Upper Marlboro, and he provides the best treatment for your pet. He's saved our dogs numerous times, as they had hereditary health issues as puppies, and now that they're reaching senior status, issues are starting to creep up. Recently, our 10+ year old pitbull Brutus had a tumor growth on his foot. Dr. Mesfin accommodated all of our requests, and the surgery was a major success. The next day Brutus was up and active, had zero complications from the procedure. Two weeks later you wouldn't realize he's missing a toe! Contacted this business to inquire about dog boarding. I spoke with Mia (she was phenomenal) and was quoted $45/night based on my dogs weight? I've boarded my dog many times and this was the first time I was asked about his weight. Mia shared the vet hospital would need my dogs vaccination records. Perfectly reasonable. I have pet coverage with Banfield Pet so my dog is up to date. Mia put me on hold and came back to the call to say the vet hospital would not accept my dogs records. Instead, I had to make an appointment for an exam ($59) so my dog could be examined and vaccination records verified?????? This makes ZERO sense. I pay enough for Banfield pet coverage. To have to pay for another exam to board my dog who will only be kept in a KENNEL with no interaction with other dogs---just let out to relieve himself????!!!! That is absurd and indicates a business that just wants $$$ read more

Now that I'm in this area, I really needed to find a good vet for thee Duchess. Enter the UMVH. So Duchess was sick, not eating throwing up and the like. I called around to a few vets, none of which either had a vet there or had an appointment. Well, this location had both. The same day that I called, I was able to get in and see the Doctor. The hospital is located right on Marlboro Pike in the opposite location of Main Street, going toward 301. Signage is pretty easy to spot from the road and there are plenty of parking spaces. Once inside, the waiting area is extremely clean, the exam rooms are right off of the waiting area. The staff here are amazing! I have called to ask questions prior to my appointment, after my appointment, during my appointment (you get the idea), and they have answered them completely and to my understanding. I have left a message, and within 30 minutes I received a telephone call back from the Vet! This is something that I have never experienced before. I don't feel as though I am being taking advantage of, as Dr. M took the least invasive way to treat Duchess and gave me the step by step course that would we would need to take should it not work. Thankfully, we didn't have to go that route. Prices are fair in comparison to other locations, and they offer wellness plans to suit the needs of you and your pet. Medications, foods, etc are purchased in house. They keep digital records and offer additional services such as boarding and grooming. I can't speak enough of their praises, I'm so happy that I found them, and that Duchess has a new Vet home. read more

You are encouraged to stay in your vehicle or make an appt the next time to attend the exam with your pet. My advice to you, Go into the exam with your pet ALWAYS! Do not be swayed by online positive reviews (wherever you go); more importantly, when you take your cat, dog, etc to any place, don't let them out of your sight. Their prices are pretty steep, but they treat and care for Pitbull mixes, so I'll be a longtime loyal customer. The Vet is very friendly and always makes sure you are aware of the options you have for your pets. I never feel pushed to certain medicines or procedures. You can tell he wants to make you and your pet comfortable. They also offer grooming services, that again, are pricey. However you get what you pay for! It should be noted that there is a pet cat that wanders throughout the facility, so make sure you keep a close eye on your pets if they are cat chasers! read more
