I went here recently for the early morning open hockey (6-830 a.m.). I think this time slot is…read moreawesome, as it allows me to get in a good workout before going to work and I don't have to kill a weekday or weekend evening to do it. Plus, for $10, a 2.5 hour open hockey can't be beat. I played hockey here in a men's league some 10 years ago. It was in a little better shape then. The entire rink is somewhat small. There's a small hockey store where you can get the basics but there isn't much of a selection. The ice was in way better shape than I recall, especially so for a warm humid morning. The locker rooms are on the small side and the shower/bathroom area could really use a power-washing with some disinfectant.

After I got into ice skating this winter, I thought that all I need is A place to skate, but I soon…read morefound out that (stupid me) that I also need SPACE. While I am very happy with Oaks' Center Ice (see my review) and go there because it's the closest rink to my house, Willow Grove's Ice Arena is much less popular and thus great for an extensive workout. You can definitely go fast here, as well as practice any tricks and jumps that you might know. In fact, I saw a professional skater there today (2/20). The ice was a bit uneven in some places, but overall, the surface is well kept. The only thing that's out of the norm is the fact that they only run the Zamboni once - before the public skating period. Other places maintain the ice between the two hours of skating. Staff was pleasant and helpful and for $6, I think you get your money's worth! I didn't rent the skates, since I have my own, but I cannot imagine it's expensive. I didn't see, but also didn't look for, a skate shop with sharpening service. I'll do that next time. I will definitely go back, since I would never judge the ice conditions based on just one visit - and I'll check out the sharpening, as well...I promise :)

Recently hosted a bridal shower in the banquet room. Bride requested this location…read more First and foremost the server taking care of us was lovely, super accommodating and took great care of us!! The space was beautiful. Didn't make a stink the day of because our server was so kind and we had such a great day, but if you're looking to plan an event there are definitely things you should be made aware of. Planning and preparing for the event with the event coordinator was a bit of a pain and that pain continued into the event itself. Communication was not great, emails taking days or weeks to respond and can't get anyone on the phone. We had to reschedule a meeting due to a medical issue on her part (which was totally fine) but there was no communication on the clubs end of things (even after I called the day of the meeting and was told someone would be getting back to me, no one did). We later had to reschedule another meeting which was this time my fault. The week of, after requesting it, I was sent the invoice for the event. The invoice was not accurate so I asked for it to be adjusted and was told it would be sent back.. it wasn't. Day of the shower one of the bridesmaids was first to arrive and the coordinator did not bother to show her to the room or say hello, introduce herself, nothing. During the shower there was not lemonade and iced tea on the tables as I had discussed with the coordinator. We get to the start of food and I notice after everyone has already eaten that the rolls and butter were never put out, the waitress says she wasn't told and scrambles to find us rolls and butter. When planning with the coordinator, we discussed doing a mimosa bar for the purpose of cutting cost on a full bar and bartender, she failed to tell me that the champagne bottles they sell are $45 a bottle, it was NOT cheaper than doing a full bar. All in all for the cost of the venue ($600 room rental plus food and beverage plus a 20% gratuity on the ENTIRE bill, not just food and bev) there are DEFINITELY better places to host your event. It's a shame because the event space is beautiful, but it seems as though the event coordination is lacking tremendously. I wish I would have read more reviews before booking because it seems as though these aren't new issues.

I haven't been to the batting cages since a birthday party in my teen years at Grand Slam when it…read morewas in Southampton, PA. Fast forward twenty plus years and this is the activity I chose for this years birthday for myself. They had about four different batting lanes that you can rent by the half hour or the hour. I brought a party of seven over of which five of us decided to take turns trying our luck hitting the balls and feeding the pitch machine to one another. The balls used are not actual baseballs which I was kind of surprised by but much larger bright colored balls. The pitching machine you can rent goes from 30mph to 60mph and you can set the speed. The machine we hit off of looked like it has seen better days but the owner did offer to use another machine after a few minutes of us hitting which looked a bit more efficient. The machine we used kind of turned off on its own several times and we had to play with the wires to get it to turn back on. I gained much more respect for the art of hitting balls as you really have to bend your knees and get the bat off your shoulder fairly quick to time bat to ball contact. I am glad I went for my birthday and in the future I would probably go to Grand Slam Sports in Malvern just because I believe you do not have to manually load the balls to pitch to another person. This establishment is best for instructors that are training their athletes, however my nephews and one of my best friends who hit with me enjoyed ourselves and I am thankful for this opportunity. As always people SYOY!!!
