I found this location to be fine. It was clean and there were plenty of wipes, I only saw 1 machine out of order, and the sauna was working. They are in the process of converting the racquetball court into a Pilates studio which I'm a fan of. I would return if in the area. read more

The men's room is very unsanitary. It smells like you we know men use a urine. It needs constant clean. It's very disgusting and trifling in there. The manager ought to be embarrassed. The Glenside facility on Highland Avenue is poorly maintained in every area and the staff doesn't seem to care. The elliptical machines are not properly calibrated, members don't put up their weights (nor do employees put them up), women's locker room is often dirty, the gym floor is seldom (never?) vacuumed -- lots of dust bunnies and hair. Caters to young, male weightlifters. Always crowded and loud. Even though it's close to home, I've cancelled my membership and now go to the LA Fitness in Ft Washington which is clean and very well maintained. read more

I only use this gym for its lap pool but it is nice that it is still affordable while offering somewhat premium services like a swimming pool. Some pros: - Swimming pool is pretty clean and not overly chloronated - It's a nice temp, not too hot or too cold, just right for doing laps A few complaints: - They do not provide towels, so bring your own! My first visit I was caught off guard and had to drive home sopping wet, which was gross. - They also do not provide (at least to my knowledge) a swimming suit dryer, which is standard for places with a pool. So, once again, don't forget your towel, a plastic bag for your suit, and a change of clothes! - If you actually want to use the pool for exercise, you need to figure out your timing. There are frequently several people doing ultra-low-impact pool walking or floating, and taking up lots of space. There is no lifeguard or moderator in the pool to encourage these people to share a lane, so it can be a little frustrating sometimes, especially when it's apparently social hour and nobody is getting out. But, that's what you get for the low price! In all, I'd recommend! read more

This LA Fitness location is just okay. Lately, I've noticed their customer service has gone downhill. I started coming to this location in 2009 shortly after my local Bally Total Fitness closed. The machines are old and rusty. They seriously need to update their equipment. A lot of the machines have signs on them that say "scheduled for service" and it takes days for someone to actually fix them. Majority of the time people get off the machines and don't wipe them down, which is so gross. I don't want to work out on a machine that's covered in sweat. It gets very crowded between the hours of 4-6pm, as most gyms do, and I've found myself waiting for treadmills and ellipticals when I'm there on weekdays. Saturday and Sunday are their slower days. Employees at the front desk are miserable. When you walk up to the desk, you feel like you're inconveniencing them. They're too busy being on their personal cell phones texting. They have the easiest job. All they have to do is stand there and scan people's membership cards. They don't even greet customers. It's a shame. read more

GROSS! DO NOT GO HERE. I wish I would have read the reviews first. I went out of sheer proximity to my home. Now after 2 weeks of working out there I have MRSA. I have been a member at LA Fitness in Jenkintown (Highland Ave) for at least 10 years. The gym has gone downhill for the past few years. When the Pandemic started mgmt removed all the hand sanitizers in the entire gym! Cleanliness apparently is not one of their objectives. Three weeks ago they ran out of paper towels, so members had to bring in their own paper towels to wipe down machines. There were no towels for three days, I would imagine all the local markets were also out of paper towels, otherwise someone would have gone out and bought a few rolls. I spoke w/ the manager 3 weeks ago because several of the bikes and treadmills no longer work. I was told that many of the machines are so old they cannot find parts any more. My next question was, "Why not get new machines?" and I was told they don't have money for new machines. Many of the machines have been broken since before the pandemic. At least 1/3 of all the bikes don't work, and almost half the treadmills are also broken. You may ask, "why keep going to the gym is things are so bad?". Simple, the gym is 5 minutes from my house, and in the years I have been going there I have developed friendships w/ many of the members. I get together w/ half dozen members outside of the gym. This gym is disgusting. It has not been updated since it was built over 11 years ago. All other La fitness's in the area have been updated The mirrors on the gym floor are never cleaned The spin bikes are so warped and the stereo system is not good, and the instructor- the microphone never works for her The section where the "trainers" do their thing, they will never let you use and of the stuff in there. As paying members we should be allowed to use that, I know at other locations, members can use that section. read more

We were scheduled for a fitness assessment with the fitness manager Sharif Jones. Unfortunately he couldn't be bothered to even come introduce himself. Very rude, and it was obvious he only had eyes for the young women, to whom he was quite attentive. So obviously there was no assessment. If he is the best LA Fitness can offer, obviously we'll look for personal trainers elsewhere. The jacuzzi is rarely clean and when I asked about a cleaning schedule, I was told there wasn't one and although apparently chemicals get added, they don't ever drain it to put in fresh water unless there's a compelling reason. This company offers the ability to suspend your membership, however, they do not mention the outrageous fee they charge to do so. During this period of concern about the Coronavirus, given the fact that this gym is unsanitary on most days, they add insult to injury after taking my annual dues, paid in full at the beginning of each year, for the last 10 years plus, to charge me to suspend my membership. I will allow my membership to lapse and join some other gym once the smoke settles. Be advised this is not where you want to spend you gym money. read more

I take issue with the false advertisement and unfair business practices of this organization. Customers beware,, this particular location has the branding of LA Fitness and yet they are not. They will tell you that you can go to any gym nationwide to train, but they won't make it clear that this is limited to LA Fitness and not Esporta. It's incredibly misleading and overall disappointing. To top it all off they'll claim you either pay hundreds of dollars to get access to all gyms or cancel your membership and wait several months before rejoining. I've never felt more mishandled as a customer than I have been made to feel by this organization. read more

This is a great gym but seemingly employs incompetent staff who refuse to monitor patrons from properly abiding by covid guidelines. If health inspectors came by this place would be shut down immediately. It's not hard to monitor if patrons are wearing masks properly and wiping down equipment after use, but staff just sits around on their phones. Then you have the basketball court which is completely unmonitored, and those playing don't wear masks at all. Then they will leave the court and walk around the gym without a mask on. read more

I really like this gym. It's big, and it isn't very crowded. I used to go to the one in Bala Cynwyd, which honestly, is so crowded and it's a place that people go to find dates. The machines are newer than some other LA Fitness locations in the area. It's a huge plus to have TVS on the cardio machines. And ... they have an awesome Kids Club! My little one enjoys it. The one negative thing is that you have to pay attention to who is watching your kid. Unfortunately, I've seen the person on watch playing on their cell phone instead of watching the kids. The older ones rough house and make it slightly unsafe for the little ones. I haven't always felt comfortable at this branch. All in all, a good gym. It's ridiculous that people who sign up with access only to this club pay the same as other clubs in the area, cause this one is ter-ri-ble. Unfortunately this site is poorly managed, operationally. The equipment is old and many of the treadmills don't work. Did I say the equipment is old and not well maintained. It is old, old, old! This is a pretty nice location. Clean, full-featured, and everything you need whether classes, cardio, or lifting is your thing. I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to gyms. I gave the cheap Planet Fitness route a try for a while. Lets be honest, for $10/month you can't complain. But, for me, the pool, the high-end weights, the cycling, the basketball court, even the racquetball court are all things I and my friends use. It keeps us coming back and it keeps things interesting. I'm here five days a week. The locker rooms are very cramped - this is a busy location - during busy times you can't find a place to change without being inches from another guy. The child care is huge. For an extra $10/month we are able to exercise knowing our daughter is within reach and taken care of while we exercise. REQUEST! I would pay a couple extra dollars a month for towel service! read more

If I could give his place zero stars I would. I called to ask some questions about opening a membership. The lady was very rude in discussing how to become a member. I told her my experience at another La Fitness and her response was "WOW you're crazy why would you buy a membership and then close it?" - with an attitude. I tried to explain to her why I had to cancel my membership but she was huffing and puffing on the phone. And she kept cutting me off when I was talking. I then said thank you for your time and she just hung up on me. I was unsure of why she was being so rude. I am just a customer trying to figure out the best gym membership. If you are looking for a nice gym membership I would not come here. If you want poor customer service and rude people this is the place for you. I will definitely tell my friends and family NOT to use this LA FITNESS or any other LA FITNESS. read more

This gym is in a constant state of filth. Light in the mens sauna is always on the fritz. Trash cans spilling trash on the floors, showers with mold, and a staff that is out to lunch. Quick to take your money, not so quick to clean the place. Lately there have been a number the exercise machines waiting for repair. Seems to take a long time to get them fixed. There have been a number of burglaries in the locker rooms. Lockers are broken into and valuables taken. Staff seems to be doing nothing to address this problem. I joined for free with a monthly price of around $30. They have a decent selection of equipment, but every time I go there are several pieces that are out of order. There are a couple of treadmills that have been broken for weeks. They do not do repairs quickly. Some of the monitors and headphone jacks on the cardio equipment have been out for months. The pool and hot tub are decent and there always seems to be space at them. The employees generally do not have much interaction with the clientele, unless they are teaching a class or doing personal training. They mostly seem to play around on their cell phones or sit at their desks and surf the internet. Virtually no one wipes off the equipment when they are done and that includes the employees. I continue to go there because the location is convenient, being located between my office and home. For the price it's ok. I'm sure there are much better gyms out there. read more

This gym is fine if you plan on leaving immediately after using the equipment. For the most part, the equipment and machines are pretty clean and they replace/fix anything broken/old pretty quickly. My update is really to warn about the locker room areas. Avoid the the lockeroom/bathrooms/showers if possible. The bathrooms smell like sewers and the showers like rotting mildew. Trust me, you'll feel better leaving the gym in a sweaty mess than showering in that filth! read more

I guess there is no better alternative than la around, so apparently there is no other places I could switch. But. Just want to let you know few things about la fitness, so your experience will be better than mine. 1. If you want to cancel membership - make sure they really cancel it. What happened to me - la kept charging me for next 3 months after I request cancellation. 2. If you wish to freeze your membership, talk to few people. Make sure you will get right information. I wanted to freeze so talked to a guy on reception desk in 1 month before I wanted to freeze. He said no no, you have to do it before you leave, come on monday-friday 9-5. But call before you come. I did so and guess what, they said I should do it in advance because of billing period. Good luck! read more

I usually go to the Fort Washington LA Fitness. However, I decided to check out this location because one of my favorite spin instructors (Angie) teaches here on Wednesday nights. I had heard about this location when it opened a year or so ago, but had never gone because I heard it was crowded and was a bit more of a drive for me than my usual LA. The second I walked through the doors, I was hit by the disgusting smell of dirty socks. That is what this gym smells like- a big dirty, high school gym locker room. There are usually dirty paper towels scattered on the floor and I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually cleaning anything, but then again, I'm usually holding my breath and making a run for the spin room, so I could be wrong. The spin room is really nice- it's stadium style and has new Keiser bikes. It's usually a bit chilly but has good ventilation (which I'm just assuming since it never smells bad in there like the rest of the gym). If you are looking for a fast-paced class with good music and lots of intervals, you'd love Angie's classes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I also really enjoy Juanita's Monday night yoga class. It is very relaxed which isn't really my style, but she is an amazing person and instructor. I always feel great after her classes. If it weren't for Angie and Juanita though, I would never go to this location ever again. read more

Too. Freakin. Crowded. This LA Fitness gets very crowded in the early evening, to the point where is it difficult to find a free locker or machine. The locker room looks beautiful, but it is poorly laid out, so that you constantly have to excuse yourself to get past other members. The only way I manage to get a workout in a reasonable amount of time is to just use whatever station happens to be open; waiting for specific machines would take too long. The facility overall is fairly nice, primarily because it is only a few years old. I see some evidence that the management isn't putting enough into maintaining the place, but time will tell. I don't have any complaints about the equipment quality. The temperature is always comfortable. Most of the members and staff are polite. I've used their babysitting service (the Kids Klub) a handful of times and my daughter seems to like it. I pay $18 per month, but I've had other members tell me that they pay more or less than I do; apparently you need to negotiate when you sign up. read more

Avoid this place like a plague. When I first signed up a few years ago, they were having serious issues with pool hygiene. It smelled funny and the water was cloudy. When approaching a manager about the situation, they told me that the person they get to do it wasnt in, so nobody was adding chlorine to the pool water for a few days. That's absolutely ridiculous! While they did eventually get it together in terms of the pool, I eventually decided that the somewhat steep pricing and my inability to visit the gym as often as I liked caused me to want to cancel my membership. This was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Cancelling a membership at LA Fitness is akin to trying to leave the mob. they require any cancellation "In Writing" You need to fill out special forms, and mail them to the main office. In the meantime, while they are "processing" your cancellation, you are getting billed for a few extra months while they take more of your money. Better yet, after we cancelled, we received calls for about 2 months asking us to "update the credit card on file" because it had expired. .. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY, sometimes 2-3 times per day! Their excuse was that the system was doing it for them. Better yet, the calls were impossible to ignore because they would call from a different phone number, at a difference LA fitness EACH TIME. Bottom line? Be prepared to be a member for life, because they won't let you leave once they have you in their grasp. read more

After a few months I can see this is only going to get worse. Leaving town at the end of the summer so I will be done with this location then as well. The gym is often dirty, the staff indifferent and the smell is beyond what is reasonable. Add to that chronic issues with machines out of order (at one point it was literally half of the treadmills at the same time!) and the ones that do work there is always something else wrong - TV sound goes in and out, TV screen is static or how about the best one that only has 3 channels to choose from. The cable is basic so you only get 10 channels anyway! Redic! No WIFI And the lunks seem to rule the free weight area as there is no staff to keep any kind of order. The equipment is old and rusting and needs to be be replaced. **Make sure you don't venture into the basketball court room - you will pass out from the funk! read more

I'm very unhappy with this location. Think twice before separating your money from you: 1. Signed up for personal training. a. In 4 weeks, have had 4 trainers, 2 of which have left after a short employment. b. Today my trainer was a no show, no call. 2. Some equipment doesn't work, especially TV's on the treadmills. 3. Unsanitary, especially the men's changing rooms. At the corporate level: 1. Member services is useless, useless, useless. 2. Asked the area manager to covet an excellent trainer who, clearly, didn't follow through. See #2 above. I don't know if other gyms are as bad, but my experiences here are not satisfactory. read more

Friendly staff, but dirty facilities ruin it for me. Routinely find trash in cup holder of cardio machines, bottles and paper towels next to weight machines, no more paper towels in cleaning station, bathrooms always smell bad (most likely because 3-of-5 stalls are always left unflushed/clogged) and at least one stall always has a malfunctioning lock. Oh, and no hooks on most bathroom doors. It's all just a real drag :( don't bother joining. read more
