I visited Uppers today. I am a coffee aficionado from way back. In my youth I was mentored on the ways to drink coffee.
I went to Greenwich Village coffee houses at 2:00 AM and sipped espresso with a twist of lemon.
In Cambridge MA, I went to the Café Algiers both the downstairs in the '80s and the upstairs in the '90s.
Glancing at Uppers when I crossed the street on my way to the post, I made a mental note to visit when next I returned.
Today, again, the post and then Uppers. I stepped in and found a cozy, up to date, Cafe in the style of a grotto. I was instantly returned to the days of real coffee shoppes.
The seating is intimate. The pastries looked to live for! They offer a full coffee menu of espresso style drinks. There is a shelf on the wall with tempting bags of coffees to bring home or to work.
The staff, a combination of proprietors and employees were congenial and helpful.
They were quick to take our orders as well as just chat. I sat outside in the side walk seating. The day was gloriously sunny.
I am no longer wild and free so my coffee? A Decaf Americano. It had a dry bitter flavor that was filled in with notes of an expansive mellow coffee flavor. No bitter after taste. No jitters and yet a full bodied cuppa.
Please support cottage industries and your neighbors. I want to be able to return to Uppers when I return to Stansted! read more
