Arlanda terminal 5 is incredibly easy to get dropped off at. The kiosk is right next to the door. You print out your ticket and especially if you have no checked baggage, it's an incredibly quick process to get to your gate. But if you have a connecting flight on a separate airline ARN is a very difficult airport to fly out of. The kiosks won't take your confirmation number and you won't have your ticket number, so you'll have to use your passport and if you have multiple people in your party, you can't add them in at the kiosk, you have to go though the process one by one, for every single passenger, filling out all the documents as you go. Each person takes about 4-5 minutes to check in. They do have a checked bag drop but it's entirely, and I mean entirely, self service. You put your bag tags on, load the luggage on the belt, and scan the baggage yourself. I'd never seen anything like it and I would advise adding in a solid hour of time if you're checking baggage and flying out, especially for multiple people. All in all, the shops at ARN and the terminal itself were quite nice, it's primarily just their baggage process that's not great.

Baggage claim was also super quick and easy no long waits, no chaos, just grab your stuff and go. And when it was time to head back home, the process was just as smooth. TSA/security was actually really nice and friendly, which you don't always get at airports, so that definitely stood out. Overall, this airport made traveling feel stress-free. For those who book cheap fares with long layovers like we did, Connect Hotel is perfect. There is nothing fancy here but it is quite nice. My traveling companion actually described it as "Ikea like." The hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet so we got a good night's rest before the last leg of our journey. There is a full bar in the evening -- which is great for a weary traveler. Their restaurant service exceeded expectations. You make your selections, pay at the bar and soon the food is delivered to your table in the commons area. You can eat it there or retreat to your room if you prefer. My traveling companion is vegan and though the menu did not offer vegan dishes per se, several items, including a hearty bulgar salad, were easily adapted to a vegan diet simply by omitting the cheese. I ordered a shrimp sandwich. The small shrimp (probably 36-40 size) were piled high on an open face sandwich dressed with mayo and garnished with a pickle and fresh veggies. Along with a side of fries it was a satisfying meal. Breakfast is served starting at 4:00am in the morning -- a definite plus for those with early flights. The breakfast buffet includes a selection of breads, cold meats and cheese, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee and tea. They also offer gluten free and lactose free options for those on special diets (which also worked well for my vegan companion). We ate our fill and caught the 7:00am bus to the airport, getting there with plenty of time to leisurely work our way through security and to our gate. So if you have an itinerary like ours, you'll find that the Connect Hotel should serve your needs well.

ROOMS: --------- They are TINY! But they get the job done. The four of us shared between us a double bed and a bunk bed. The boys graciously took the bunk bed. :) The bathroom is even smaller. If you bend over while sitting on the toilet, you may bump your head on the sink counter. If you try to shower in the magical glass door compartment that has no tub but doesn't leak water, you may bang an elbow or knee. But nothing we can't deal with for such a good price! FOOD: ------- Basic complimentary breakfast of lunch meats, cucumber & tomato, cheese, bread, granola and yogurt, some fruits, and coffee. Lunch and dinner (and of course drinks) are available for separate purchase. LOCATION: ------------ Perfect if you need to stay close to the airport. Since we had only one night here for our layover on the way to Barcelona, this was the best location. It was only about a 15-20 minute Uber to downtown Stockholm. Transportation rocked. A designated bus picked us up at the airport, dropped us off at the hotel, and brought us back to the airport the next morning. Very convenient! TIP: This will do the job and fit your travel budget. The place is located in the centrum of Uppsala, just across the street from the Uppsala Central Station. Thus it will serve very well as accommodation if you come by train or by bus. Kind staff, a very nice atmosphere and a fresh interior. The breakfast buffet is included in the hotel price, but if you are a hostel guest (or if you just randomly drop in from the street as I did, in because I wanted to have a little bit of a morning luxury) you can buy the buffet for 79kr. I think it was totally worth every "krona". The buffet was very good; there were a large assortment of muesli and yoghurt, different types of bread, cheese, jam etc. Also boiled eggs and fresh fruits. And what was probably the best part: you could make your own Belgian-style waffles! And of course add some nutella, peanut butter, whipped cream etc. to it. Yum! Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and juice are included. In addition, they also offer gluten free breakfast. It's the swedish way - no discrimination. The atmosphere was cosy and calm. They also have a shelf full of books if you like to read while enjoying your "frukost". Very good breakfast buffet for a reasonable price at a good location!

We went for lunch and I tasted the fired salmon with Swedish potato sallad. The food was excellent with the salmon just cooked long enough. In addition to the good food you can also enjoy a magnificent view over the city's south side from the roof-top terras while you are eating. Take a look yourself!

Food in the bistro is about avrage but could be better and not much to choice from if you are a vegeterian or only eat chicken and fish. Breakfast is just above average and it dos the job for most people but the downside is they cut up so much fruits and after the pandemic and especially in Sweden it feels unhygienic and unsafe to eat. But in all breakfast is good. The rooms are ok nothing special but good and the cleaning staff is super friendly and helpful. The gym is good and has all you need to keep in shape, but the sauna and the showers need a makeover and more regular cleaning During my 3 nights the showers was not clean even if i told them after the first night that the show was full of hair and you could see the hair was from more intimate parts. So if the clean they showers, put up some hooks for towels, fix the bucket in the sauna like buying a new one, put a thermometer in the sauna and maybe add some hocks or shelving, a hairdryer the sauna would be a great pleace visit again. The best thing would be a phone with a direct line to reception so you could order drinks like water, coffee and fruit and so one without having to leave the sauna area as it is on a sperat floor in the building from the reception.

I spent decades revering this icon of global travel to exotic destinations. Rode it for many years when in college and as a young adult. And now I get to come up close to one just as this queen of the skies is getting retired from most flagship airlines in favor of 2 engined planes. Very clever use of space with strong homage to key areas of the aircraft. I originally booked an engine nacelle room. But am grateful the receptionist offered to place me in the main cabin for several reasons--proximity to toilet-showers, noise insulation (from aircraft taxiing nearby), and the alarming wobble each time someone walks the wing overhead! Breakfast begins at 3am. An easy terminal shuttle bus (P3 Alfa) runs 4 times an hour for much of the day and night. No shoes inside the hostel--bring flip flops to use around and un bathrooms.

My last travel in Europe years ago did not include a private bathroom and shower, so I was surprised and happy to have this at the Charlotte. The room was not huge by American standards but clean and comfortable with everything we needed, for a middle aged American couple with no recent European travel in years. There is free wi-fi which I will think of now always as "vee-fee". There is an Uppsalakort discount card available for reduced admissions at Uppsala hotels, museums, bus and train fare, and eateries but if you're gonna get, get it BEFORE if you can, there is a substantial discount applicable to your stay even at the Hotel Charlotte. We missed this because you must show the card at check-in. We loved Uppsala, too many things to do and see for our two day stay, with the castle, the medieval cathedral still very actively used, and the amazing museums and libraries all within easy walking for anyone moderately fit. We did not need or want a car. Had it rained, which it did not, public transport possibilities were readily available and cheap.
