My first visit as an adult in her early 30s. Hadn't been since I was a teenager. Glad to see Heidi was still holding it down in the heart of the neighborhood. Customer Service was pretty good considering the customer demographic served. Liked that they were adhering COVID policies to keep themselves and patrons safe. Nice women with interesting conversations. Lots of colors to choose from gel and non gel! Technician seems knowledgeable when discussing my nails and answering minor questions. Would definitely recommend. I went on a Tuesday afternoon after calling at opening and scheduling for later that day. Will be returning. *P.S.* Week afterwards everything looked good. Had one line crack on middle finger of right hand but it was barely noticeable. The gel manicure held up the 10 days she said it would. 3 weeks later the gel manicure was grown out and starting to lift so I removed it. My toes still look good and have minor wear and tear that shows I've had them polished for a while. read more

The worst experience I ever had, was my first time there and will be my last time.The lady who took care of me did not look like she cared or even wanted to be there, hope she was not the owner, but that was possible because the other two women was more motivated and happy, you can see everyone was waiting for them, and I should have waited to.First she cut my finger had me bleeding, then charge me $40 for med/ped most people say that is a great price, but if you cut me, I should get some break. Heidi does the best eyebrows in Boston. I don't usually get my nails done here because they are a very popular and busy salon, but when I do... they are always quality and exactly what I am looking for. They used to only do walk ins, but due to COVID-19 they now take appointments over the phone, so I will definitely start using that feature to book nail appointments. Despite the negative reviews about wait times, it is definitely worth the wait, that's why one of the reviewers waited lol they are a small salon and if you request for a specific person to do your eyebrows, you may have to wait until they are done servicing the current customer. I usually just ask how long will it take, and come back in the time Heidi says. I never lose my place in line. I've been coming here for over 10 years and they are super friendly and personable. read more

I have been going there over a year and have not been disappointed yet. All 3 ladies are amazing at nails, the man is a perfectionist when it comes to toes. Yes the wait can be long even if you have an appointment but it is totally worth the wait. Amy took me in last minute to fix up my nails after going to another salon and them doing a horrendous job. I needed to get my nails fix Right before my maternity shoot and Amy did that! Normally my full set would start lifting and look all bulky but Amy made it look very natural (minus the pointy stiletto since I don't think any normal human being would have claws as their natural nails) and it's been almost two weeks and it still looks flawless! People complain about this nail salon being ghetto and loud but seriously, what do you expect when you're getting your nails done in the hood! Lmao atleast they speak English! I have to be honest. I've only come here to get my eyebrows done. It's really the only girly thing I do. Not really into mani/pedis...I know crazy right? If you're going for eyebrows you will not be disappointed! Heidi, who is the owner of the shop, does the eyebrows and she is the only person alive at this moment who I would let touch mine. I keep them pretty full but she shapes them so well I get so many compliments on them. AND it only costs $8!!! Even though I only get eyebrows done, it's apparent they are good at everything they do because people are always in there getting their hands and feet done. The best time to go is during the week maybe during a lunch break or something because its hardly ever crowed at that time. Beware after those hours though because once people start getting off from work, it gets packed! I would also recommend calling ahead of time if you're going for eyebrows. Since Heidi is the only one who does them well, if she has stepped out for lunch or hasn't come in yet for the day, you might be waiting. I made the mistake of taking the T there once after class without calling and wasted a lot of time because she wasn't due in for a few more hours. I left and came back later. If you call, they always tell you when she is expected to be in and she comes when she says she'll be there. It's never been a huge problem since she's there the majority of the time anyway. I highly recommend this place for eyebrows especially. I've told all my friends and random strangers who ask me where I get my eyebrows done. I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else and have no problem traveling from Allston to Roxbury just to get them done. If you're into manicures and pedicures I would go ahead and just get everything done there as well because you won't be disappointed. read more

I don't know why everyone is giving a horrible review. I always go to Upscale Nail Design and they provide great service and do beautiful work! The owner as well as the other staff does a great job on my nails! I got my prom nails done here and they came out beautiful. I always go here to get my nails done and the result always come out amazing ! I can't say enough about the owner! She is the only person who does eye brows and she is the only person I would allow to touch my eye brows ! She always engage in conversation and makes me feel welcome! This place is in the middle of the hood but let me tell you no matter where i live im driving to get my eye brows done here. Heidi had been doing my sisters eyebrows for more than 15 years (not at same shop) but she has followed her and Hahn has been doing my eyebrows for 10 years now. They slay eye brows and actually listen when i say just clean them up. I haven't gotten my nails done here but my toes are always on point. The shop can be a little loud and we are all adults so swears do come out so if you have small children that you are trying to shelter from life keep them home lol.... Even though people say its a ghetto salon if you are having a bad day you will definitely get a good laugh here and leave still laughing. Honestly best place to get your eyebrows done believe me. The owner of this business is very rude, unprofessional, and careless about the service she should provid as a nail tech and owner. My prior experience with another nail tech that works in the shop was great and provided excellent service. She screams and yells at her employees hence the reason they seen to always leave. I completely agree with all the other low reviewers on here. I've been to this place about 3 times & each time it has been the same. I only tried this place because my eyebrow lady moved & I didn't want to make the long trek to her new place. Before I came here I called trying to book an appointment. The lady on the phone told me that they don't do appointments & they only do walk-ins... super weird. But I guess that was supposed to warn me about the rachetness & disorderly conduct I was about to experience. I walked in as I was told over the phone, the nail ppl saw me walk in, they said nothing until the main person Heidi decided to look up & ask me what I needed done. I said "eyebrows". She told me to have a seat, which i did. I waited 30 minutes & she came & brought me to the back. While I was waiting Heidi & some other employee were talking & laughing pretty loudly. Heidi was cursing up a storm. This was very jarring for me because I had never in life experienced this at an establishment of business where customers were around. But I tried to ignore it. From what I remember, Heidi did a good job waxing my eyebrows, so I was happy when I left. Months later I came here again for my eyebrows, this time I waited almost an hour & a half. I had to walk up to the nail station to remind the lady I was still waiting. She told me she had forgotten about me & hopped up & brought me to the back. This lady didn't do much waxing. She mostly used a razor, which I didn't really care about at that point because I was peeved & just wanted my brows done & to get out of there. Went here out of desperation once again & it was the same old story, long wait, employee forgetting I'm there, loud explicit conversations with a bunch of cursing. This place is ghetto. There's no going around that. Plain & simple. And that's because of Heidi. She seems to be good at what she does, but that doesn't negate the fact that her & the other nail person at the front have filthy mouths & attitudes. I won't be back. For a place called Upscale Nail Design, there is absolutely nothing upscale about it. My advice, start being an actual well put together business & start taking appointments, keep the private conversations private & get rid of the cursing. That's a bad look for business & it's trashy. The only ppl leaving good reviews on this probably come from dysfunctional homes where behavior like this is the norm. I won't be spending my dollars here ever again. I'm good love, enjoy. read more

I'll admit, I only come here to get my eyebrows done. Nothing else. They do my eyebrows the best here! I've tried many places for eyebrows and they just don't touch here. Even my regular nail salon. Been going here on and off for a few years, since their Avenue Blue location in Codman Square. They recently upgraded their tv, chairs, stations, dryers and pedicure seats so Kudos for them. It's still in Roxbury so the outside doesn't look so hot and neither does the back where the eyebrows are done. Never used the bathroom here so I can't speak on that. In terms of services pedicures are okay if you just need your feet to look proper don't expect something out of this world. I was bothered not to see plastic covers used for the customers but when one of the owners sat down for a pedicure the plastic covers made an appearance. I've had both Heidi and Hahn do my nails, acrylics are great and will last the entire two weeks. Never experienced any lifting or breaks. Gel on the other hand lifts after a few days. This is also the only place I've ever been for eyebrows and they do a good job; girls come in frequently only for eyebrows. The prices are fair and I always tip regardless but they never beg or ask for tips. Everything is done in cash, but there is a ATM at the Santander across the street. The employees have a a better attitude than others at other salons. They are conversational with the customers and seem to know a majority of them personally, which is cute. I'm usually to myself during my visits. The language is not always appropriate but they're grown and it's a nail salon. Also expect a the fruit man to come by selling mango or a bootleg guy pawning dvds. The lines sometimes gets long but the wait time is usually 15-20 minutes at most. Overall, it's a decent salon for the area so if your close and need a decent pedi or mani stop by. read more

This is my favorite nail salon. I love the quality job heidi and all her workers do as well as the original and current designs they always have. I get my nails ,feet, and eyebrows done at upscale nails design and i will always go back. This place does not live up to its name at all. It's loud!! The owner curses every 5 seconds & she yells at everyone, which makes the visit unpleasant. A nail salon should be relaxing. Also her prices are inconsistent, she tries to trick people, especially if she thinks you are not a regular. "She" meaning Heidi.
