Kellie (the owner/operator) has been very responsive to her clientele over time - and as the place became so popular she instituted the "appointments possible but not required on weekdays/no appointments taken on weekends" as a compromise. Works very well if you plan accordingly. Some of the other reviews regarding "rude" staff? I've never seen that once - not even close. The staff is straight up, honest, and kind. Very cold vibes the second we got there, no one smiled no one spoke. It felt like they couldn't push us out fast enough, but as soon as someone they knew showed up, it was all warm and friendly faces! Chose here because it claimed to be LGBTQ+ friendly and my partner said his interactions with the owner and employees always good and they were friendly. Couldn't have been further from the truth. Jerry did not once check my cut from the front to make sure his work was even on my taper (it's not). I specifically asked that he trim the split ends off my budding rat tail and instead he took easily over an inch off and now it is gone. I was polite as I left, but I am devastated, as my hair doesn't grow very quickly. He was also rude about the phone ringing by saying multiple times, "Go to the website, it's 2026" and "I'm gonna let it ring because they should know to just go to the website" (I had called earlier and was spoken to very politely by the other barber that was there, didn't think he was appropriate or funny). The vibe is fun (in a dirty downtown kind of way), but they often fail to communicate wait-times and if you're not careful you can end up like I did today - I was told it was a 45 minute wait and left, frustrated, after waiting for 2-and-a-half hours (and no, I didn't get a haircut). These people cut hair so slowly that you wonder if they're actually trained or just faking it. Several people beside me with appointments had to wait an additional 30-45 mins for a chair... Darcy is amazing I'm glad to see she's still there after a several year hiatus on my part. They make it simple to book online in the same day. All the reviews complaining about wait times? That's what I would expect walking into a well integrated shop without an appointment. You can book same day. Never had any issues. This place has a laid back vibe. I'm not a big talker when it comes to haircuts and it's nice to listen to the staff banter with each other like a tight knit family while also feeling included but not obligated to make small talk. That's a 10/10 in my book oh and a bonus it's worth the extra $5 for the shampoo, I felt like a rich old lady's pampered dog! The product they used was amazing and she used at least 4-5 different things in my hair. Definitely not chemical filled bs it leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and a great smell. They spend a good amount of time on it, not just washing and shuffling you from sink to chair as quick as possible. I literally just chopped off my hair that was halfway down my back into a very short 1/2" fade about two months ago. We must have gone on an off day because we didn't have a very nice experience. When we arrived, 10 minutes after they opened, the closed sign was still up and 2 stylists were sitting inside. They reluctantly let us in and proceeded to not speak to my husband and I for his entire haircut. I tried to bring up a couple topics and even asked a few direct questions and just got silence in response. I had our 1 year old daughter with me and thought that, since it's clearly not a kid's haircut sort of place, perhaps just the mere presence of a child was making them uncomfortable, so I took her outside. My husband reported that they didn't speak to him or any of the other customers even after I took the baby out. There is an interesting wall of rocker/nude/editorial magazine type art to look at, but the silence was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. They seem to be going for a bad ass, attitude, alternative, kind of ambiance, but I think they took it a little too far this morning. read more

From the first time I came in months ago til now, they have never failed to impress with each barber having their own style. I am always greeted when I walk in by at least one barber but sometimes more. There are always conversations stretching between barber's and other clients that are pleasant and vibrant. Chocking my previous experience to a rainy day. After an early afternoon cut with Kellie, my impression of the shop is completely different. She was more than proficient with a straight razor and gave me a spot-on mob cut with a side etch and shaved my sides and nape with a razor that remained joyously blood-free (way more common than you'd think, btw). They have a solid choice in product with big plans on the way as well. New advice? Plan your visit better. There seems to be a pretty dramatic shift in the shop environment depending on which time of day you go. So, it's no small complement when I say that I've been more than satisfied with each and every cut from Kellie (Uptown's owner). After moving back to WA from LA, I was concerned that I'd never be able to replace my former barber (a veteran of Baxter Finley, The Barber Shop Club, & The Cut By). Yet, Kellie's cuts are on par with his - but half the price. I really want to like this place. The stylists here really do a good job with haircuts. The problem is the management, and customer service. My last three times I attempted to get my hair cut here, I was told there were "swamped", and had had a "rough, busy day", and some of the workers had gone home. They turned me away each time. One time prior, I was waiting to get my haircut, and observed all but one of the barbers planning to go out to lunch together, leaving one barber to take care of the waiting customers. It is evident the workers here value "social hour" with each other, instead of running a business and taking care of customers. Truly disappointing. I haven't been back. read more

This is especially so for those of us who keep our hair short, as a bad haircut forces us to look like a broke down Buzz Lightyear with a dumb-ass jigsaw hairline. With that being said, much kudos to Uptown Barbershop for alleviating that fear and turning it into complete satisfaction. After being unable to get my haircut by my usual barber, in a frantic hurry I stumbled into here. First of all, great location; downtown Bremerton, central to everything. Upon walking into the shop, I was greeted by a friendly barber, good music, and a comfortable chill visual atmosphere. I hear this barbershop can be busy, but I lucked out by immediately getting to sit down in a chair and get cut by Kamal (sorry if I didn't spell your name right!). I asked for a number one crew cut, lined up all the way around. Listen up, Kamal is that DUDE. The experience of the cut itself very relaxing and precise, but I was thrown for a loop when he got to the actual line up and asked "Do you want the line up with a straight razor?" Having never experienced this, sure, I'll go for it. I was not disappointed. A few minutes of expert swordsmanship on Kamal's part on my hair,, and I looked in the mirror and was (very) pleasantly, surprised. It was one of the best haircuts I ever got. Shavon (sp?) was my barber. She was professional and attentive to my requests. She did an actual cut, not any of this quick and easy shaving and blending shit. No, she took her time transforming my follicular atrocity into a damn fresh fade. I looked fucking sharp. She was also very easygoing which made the whole experience so much more comfortable. This is one of these neighborhood shops. It's deliberately but naturally laid back and hip. I live in Seattle and I wouldn't mind ferrying my ass to Bremerton to go back. I must say that this was the best experience I've had in a barbershop in a VERY long time! Things to know when you go, and you should! This is NOT a production shop, they take their time, listen to the customer's request and then they pamper... you will not be in and out of the chair in five minutes, so be prepared to relax a bit. There is a black board behind the door, depending on the line, it's probably best to put your name on the board. They do have beer available while you wait... but you will probably need to ask. The give discounts to active duty military. Seating can be tight, making a reservation will be helpful... it may take a bit for them to answer the phone, so be patient. You actually get a razor shave to your neck, after the haircut. They demonstrate genuine concern for your happiness, you will not be disappointed. read more

Since moving to Western Washington in July I have been going to Uptown Barbershop monthly! This is THE barbershop. I have had my hair cut by most of the barbers and They have always been outstanding haircuts. The environment is what one should expect in a barbershop. Fun barbers with a variety of interests from Netflix recommendations to school district discussions to the ever present Seahawks talk. Along with great conversation and excellent haircuts there is a music mix that will hit a rhythmic nerve no matter your genre. I have been exposed to artists and songs I had never heard of but now I know I've been missing out.
