I will never come back here again. Although she was nice, I do not think the young girl who sorts the clothes is well-versed in high-end brands beyond F21, American Eagle, Gap, Old Navy, etc. She rejected expensive items that I gladly took back. The wait is around 30 minutes to an hour, and they don't have any chairs, so you're either standing or browsing their overpriced pre-loved items. Seriously, just save up $10-$20 more and buy brand new, especially on shoes. I did find a $17 bag that retails for $40. But mostly, their stuff again is overpriced. If you come to think about it, this business model is kinda smart - they buy "nice things" for cheap and then they probably get a tax break for donating the items you leave behind. I wonder how many of those clothes were actually put back in the store to be sold. read more

Brought in two full bags of items and they bought ONE item for $2.00. They said some items were "loved" which on some, I completely understand what they meant but there were some solid items in there. They also mentioned that they don't accept Walmart or Shein (again, reasonable...to an extent). I had a good amount of Target items that were not "loved" that I'm surprised. If you go sell your clothes, I recommend staying in there and having them explain what they are buying/not buying. read more

Every time I visit the American Fork location, I find something I love, and really do need. This store location has amazing selection and quantity too!!! So much to choose from, you are apt to find what you want. The only downfall is that they literally have, every time, only one register open so the wait to check out is unfortunately time consuming and will sometimes prevent me from making any purchases at all. read more

First time here a few months back and I found a handful of gems here. The key thing is patience! Found a pair of jeans, and a light jacket here. My sister found a cute top and hubby found a pair of jeans here as well. They do tend to be picky in the things they buy (I have sold some clothes here) and they only took a handful of the two bags I brought over. They are conveniently located in an accessible plaza right off of State St. They also have a rewards check in program with earning points every time you purchase something. Points equal to dollars off next visit. It can be a bit overwhelming coming here and going thru the racks for good finds - so if you come here, have the patience, time, and leave the littles at home! For those of you who have never been to Uptown Cheapskate, it's basically a nicer version of Plato's Closet. They do have a small section of new items as well. This location is well-organized and very neat, even on busy weekends, which wins major points in my book. They also recently expanded the men's section, which almost doubled the men's inventory. This is a big plus for us since my husband and I are both students, so saving money is always good. Selling here is a pretty easy process, but it can take some time if it is busy. Because they are picky about the product they take in, you're likely to have less items purchased than you would at other stores like Plato's Closet. Last time I sold items, they said they pay you a third of a third of each item's estimated original retail price, which I think equates to like 11%. Employees are hit and miss with this location. None have ever been flat out rude but it can be hard to get their attention sometimes. Keep an eye out for their charity fill-a-bag sales! They usually do them twice a year. They'll provide you with a medium-sized bag that you can stuff with as much clothing as you can fit for $15! If you fold your clothing neatly, you can fit 10-20 pieces in, meaning they end up being about $1 per item! read more

They had Dollar Days today, where EVERYTHING on the Clearance Rack was literally just ONE DOLLAR! It was amazing!! I ended-up buying 4 shirts, that I love! I also love the idea of this place: being good to our planet by using clothing that others no longer use. Despite having a super busy day, the cashier who checked my clothes was super kind and sweet! I've found so many good finds at Uptown Cheapskate! It can take some digging, but for the most part I usually leave Uptown with at least one solid find. The prices are generally fair and they have sales often enough to make it easy to find a good deal. I just took a bag full of my husband's clothes, and majority of them have barely been worn at all. They were probably anywhere from 40 to 50 items that I brought in, but they only purchased four items from me. Honestly, such a joke. I wasted an hour of my day waiting for a whole $12. The reasoning for declining majority of the clothes was because it was "too worn." I also had some items from my old online business that have never been worn, and they declined them as well. I've sold to uptown twice now & it's been an amazing experience each time! they pay out SO much better than plato's closet (how are they still in business?) & there's no consignment, just cash on the spot (or store credit, but does anyone really ever sell their clothes just for credit?) the first time i came to sell was last September, i needed extra money for my vacation in October & had so many items that i didn't wear/didn't fit anymore. I took in like 5 bags & clothes & 1 bag of shoes & ended up with $186. my last visit was just last week- & it's the same story, I'm trying to save/earn money for my vacation this September. under one year later & i STILL had 4 bags of clothes and a bag of shoes that I knew I'd never wear again. I'm also an online shopaholic, not sure the last time i ventured out of the comfort of my home to buy clothes or shoes. anyways, i brought the bags in on a wednesday morning around 11:30 am. lucky for me i was the only one in there selling. even though I had a lot of stuff, i only waited like 35-40 minutes (not bad at all!). this time around they took almost everything & I was offered $230. I was hoping for at least $200 so I was so pumped! the store itself is clean and organized, & the clothes they sell look like they're in pretty good shape. I went here today and had a weird experience. I came to donate and shop around for a little bit. They looks my clothes and told me it would be a 45 minute wait. I thought that was pretty long but the clothes I donated were really cute, in great condition and from pretty pricey stores and I thought that they would make me a decent deal. After my name was called about an hours later the woman offered me... drum roll please... $3.... $3 for 20 pieces of clothing that weren't cheap at all, were in style and great condition. I went in with a bin full of clothes to try to sell about a week ago. Their check in process was confusing and took much longer then it should have. Once I got checked in, the girl at the counter was talking with me and I could not even hear what she was saying because the music was so loud. That should have been my first red flag. Anyways, once I got finished checking in, I got my receipt and then I browsed around the store while I was waiting for them to finish my buy. Their items were nice and in good quality but I found nothing amazing. My favorite part of the store was their hat wall by the restrooms, I thought that was a really trendy idea. Since I didn't want to keep browsing for another 1.5 hours, I sat down on the chairs they have near the restrooms and just browsed my phone until they finished my buy. I don't like their buying policy at all. While they are looking through your items, you are not aloud to leave their store. Um, what?! So I was stuck in there with their music blaring for an hour and a half. Not the way I had planned on spending my afternoon but whatever. At 6:45 I finally decide I will go check up at the counter and see if they are finished with my buy. (They closed at 7.) Lucky for me I timed that just right, I walked on over and she called out my name. I went over and she told me they could offer me $20 cash for 4 of my items or $25 in store credit. I was SO annoyed that I just took the cash and my bin and left. WHAT A FRICKING JOKE!!! If I could rate this place zero stars I would. Think about this, I had to wash all the clothes, fold them all neatly due to their retarted policy, load them in the bin, drive from Orem to AF, and wait for almost 2 hours for $20?! And not to mention gas money? Again, I repeat. Don't waste your time, it is in no way worth it. This was my first subpar visit there. There's a lady who works at this location who is pretty touchy and gets defensive super easily. I dropped off my stuff and got a text later that night that they were finished with my buy. I'm not sure how much I expected to get but I had a lululemon jacket and three pairs of boots that retail for more than $500 each so I thought I'd get more than $36. I just wanted to see what items they took and how much I got for each item. I thought this wouldn't be too much to ask--surely I can't be the first person who wants to know how much they pay per item. I worked at platos like ten years ago and they were able to print out an itemized list of what they took and how much they paid for each item they accepted. Anyway, I went in and asked for an itemized list and they said they couldn't do it. They were acting like it was impossible to do, which it could've been impossible for them, I know. I mentioned I worked at Platos years back and their system did that. Everyone was pretty apologetic and then the defensive lady jumped in and was like "WE ARE TOTALLY SEPARATE FROM PLATOS CLOSET SO WHATEVER THEY DID WE DONT HAVE" and I was like I KNOW THAT ITS NOT THE SAME. I obviously know they're competitors but they were trying to tell me something like that was impossible and it's not! And I'm assuming I'm not the first person to ask for something like that. And then I saw her eyes rolling behind her masked face and I could tell she was getting rude. So I was like "I KNOW ITS NOT THE SAME, I'm just telling you that it's not out of the ordinary to think that something like this is possible." Anyway it wasn't possible and I walked away with $36 which is like $10 Per pair of boots that I should've sold on Poshmark. Live and learn.
