I have been here a few times and it's been fine. Last time I went was awful. A very rude man did my nails. He barely acknowledged me. His long nails kept poking my skin (to the point I flinched in pain). After he applied polish to my first nail I mentioned the colour applied looked VERY different to the colour I had chosen. He ignored me and kept going. When I mentioned it a few nails later, he spoke in a different language to a coworker and they both laughed. I jokingly said "are you guys talking about me?" He said "yes. I said you don't like the colour and I said it's a bit late now hahaha." Humiliated, I started to cry. As I paid, clearly upset by the experience, I was asked what happened- when I explained I received no apology, and no understanding. I'm naturally blonde. I can take a box of blonding hair dye and it actually doesn't turn my hair orange because the base? Is blonde. This is reinforced by the fact that I have blonde eyebrows that, without routine and regular maintenance, simply do not exist. Well, they exist, but one can not SEE them without a special light. Cue my nice esthetician at Up Town Nails last weekend. Prepped the area, dyed the brows, checked with me to ensure proper shape and thickness, waxed the brows, and sent me on my way with beautifully shaped, thin, and visible brows that I can be proud of. A little more pricey than usual, sure, but worth it. I haven't mani-pedi'd here yet, but I will. Because even though I loved Crystal Nails, they don't tint brows. I like the one-stop-shop. read more

I was able to book two pedicure appointments on the same day. This nail salon is located right next to London Drugs inside the mini mall. We were seated promptly and swatches of the nail polish colours were offered. Service was thorough. The pedicure included soaking, pumice stone exfoliation, scrub, hot stone massage, lotion application, cuticle care, nail shaping and polish application. For $35, I found it very relaxing with the extra steps from my usual expectations (i.e. hot stone massage and two step exfoliation with pumice stone and scrub). The only downside was the full on Vietnamese conversation going on amongst staff. I have experienced this at many nail salons and just tune out their conversations. My nail technician was good at her job, but only spoke to me to tell me when to move my foot. The salon appears well kept and clean. One of the pedicure chairs was broken and staff made it a point to inform us not to sit on that particular chair. read more

I've been coming here for years, and i have to emphasize that the salon ís going downhill and the greedy new owner's young wife is their obvious downfall. People cant stand her dictative, manipulative, conative attitude. I have to put her personality here because I can see the difirent reaction shifting in their employees, and the rapid chane of the ásmosphere when she walks in the door. It changed from a relax, happy mode to depressing. She walk around kicking funitures, yelled and scold at the employees in Vietnamese and ordered them around. I ' d never see a smile from her for the whole time i was there. I could not feel relax at all. the woman who was setting up her tools to work on me left to work on someone else because she's been told by the owner to move. Don't ever go to Uptown Nails, worst service I've ever gotten and they are way over priced, paid way too much for horrible nails worst job i've ever seen, go any where but there. Trust me I would never have gone there if I knew how horrible of nails they did. All the regular girls are neither quitting or only there a couple of days a week because, they look ran down.,overworked, underpaid and constancely put down or insulted by the owner. So one of the employee who had been there the longest whispered. The guy who did my nails does not seem to know what he is doing. He appeared to me as a trainee. He exfoliated my legs as soon as i sat down, then started to madly grate my heels with the cheese grater than proceeded to masage my legs. He than soaked my feet back into the tub with my old nails polish still on and someone else came by half an hour later to finish my pedicure. My polish came off the same day. I had never had such a bad nails and feet jobs done to me like this. I ended up paying $90.00 for both including tips and taxes. I will not recomend this salon to anyone and definately will not be back unless the owner is changed. read more

I desperately needed to get the shellac polish I had on my nails off and I wasn't close to my regular salon. I checked Yelp reviews for salons that were currently around me before I decided on this one. I walked in and said I didn't have an appointment, but I'd like to get the shellac polish off and get a regular manicure done. They were nice enough to squeeze me in fairly quickly. The girl who did my nails commented a few times how brittle my nails are. It's true. My nails are quite brittle and I hear this a lot. She was nice enough to add a strengthening polish to them when painting them. At some point while she was painting them, I managed to smudge a nail. She was nice enough to repaint it and didn't show any signs of being annoyed with me. When it was time to have my nails dry, I was sat near the entrance of the salon, which faces the mall. You can feel a draft from outside as you sit there, which on a cold winter day can be unpleasant for some. I didn't particularly mind it, but the staff were still nice enough to offer wrapping me in my jacket to keep me warm while I waited for my nails to dry. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and wouldn't mind trying this salon again. I just find the location inside the mall to be a bit distracting. I also found the TV was up a bit too high and I had to really strain my neck to look at it. read more

I have been to Uptown quite a few times over the last few years and have only tried their nail services. If you are looking for a bomb pedi, this is your place! I have never left here unhappy with a pedicure. I keep coming back every time. I have tried several different techs and all were amazing. As far as mani or nail extensions, not so much. I have tried a few different people in the salon and I have never been satisfied. Shaping, thickness, lifting have always left me unhappy, despite my soft feedback during the process. Always book an appointment during pedicure season though! They try to accommodate walkins but I see people leaving unhappy when they say they are fully booked. PSA: People in this industry are humans just like the rest of us. Getting rude and mad when they can't accommodate you on a sunny day is not their fault, it's yours for not planning ahead. read more

I have lived in the burnaby/new west area for years and have come here as a back up salon for a while, when I can't get to my regular place downtown. I never used to understand the negative reviews here, as the shellac manis were ok enough where they would last 2 weeks. My recent experience here was terrible and the straw that broke the camel's back. The staff are especially rude - and my manicurist, who was an older woman (and someone I expected to be more experienced), was very rude. She kept talking to me like I was stupid - as if I did l didn't know how to get my nails done, she yelled at me on at least two occasions. On top of that, she didn't push my cuticles back or trim them before applying the shellac. This ultimately resulted in my shellac beginning to lift after 5 days. This salon it utterly awful, and doesn't deserve anyone's business! 0 stars. read more

Joseph is the best, and the rest dont care at all. I got fungus after a few months of pedis here, my toes went white and she said its fungus like it was nothing.... Last few times i got my nails done they broke after a week. The staff all argue and pass you around, had to explain to one person what i want and they change people 3 times in one visit. I brought my husband, and my daughter separate times, they never said a word to her, shes 10. Very cold customer service. Not good quality unless you get Joseph. NOT clean standards. read more

Disappointed. I saw the mediocre ratings but was desperate to get my nails done and this was the closest option. "How bad could it be?" I thought. While the technician was pleasant, I received the most sloppy service - she dumped almost half the bottle of cuticle oil on my fingers, barely looking at my hands. I asked for french tips which turned out really uneven, and she over filed the nails quite a bit to make this odd shape that wasn't oval or square. Not sure if the nail tools were clean, so I even declined the cuticle cutting. While she massaged my hand I also saw that the lotion bottle already expired a full two years ago. It's been less than 5 hours and my shellac tip has already chipped on my left thumb. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

I adore this place. The Vietnamese people that run this place are the most adorable people I have EVER met. I have had regular manis & pedis here as well as gel nail maintence, when I had them. I had been to a few nail places in New West and Burnaby and they were all crap in one way or another. Either bad service or bad mani's. I had one location cut me badly. At Up Town I have never had an issue. When I had gel nails, they were put on and maintained by Vincent, who is probably the nicest person I have ever met. He also LOVES hockey and there were a few nights that he and I stayed late, after my manicure, to watch the end of the game. Now that I don't have the gel nails I don't get to see him as often but he still remembers me everytime I walk by. Now that's service!!! read more

I went here to get a basic pedicure. After soaking my feet in tepid water, the woman started working on my feet. As this was happening, a customer came into the store, walked up to the woman working on my feet and said she wants her eyebrows waxed. The woman then GETS UP, STOPS WORKING ON MY FEET, AND WALKS AWAY TO WAX THIS OTHER WOMAN'S EYEBROWS!!!! She said, "I'll be back in 15 minutes." as she walked away with the other customer!!! Came here for a pedicure with mother. Walked right in and was accommodated. Salon looked clean as tidy. The massage chairs were comfortable. The staff lined the pedicure sink bath with disposable plastic covers, a first for me to see. We were given swatches to pick nail polish color. All staff spoke English as a second language. Most were Vietnamese. The lady that I had gave a great massage but was rough along the edges with my pedicure cuticle removing. The customers coming in were steady. was in there getting a pedicure . It did not hurt at first . When the girl was finish she pour a lot of oil on my toe . I didn't notice at first . When I got up to go over to the nail station my flip fop would not stay on my foot . I was thinking it was because my feet were still wet . I had the color taken off my hand , paid and went down the hall to go to the washroom and my flip flop would not stay on my foot . I went into a stall look at my foot and notice the oil on my big toe took some toilet paper and clean off my toe and flip flop and notice my toe was bleeding . I have been cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide for 2 days and bandage with ozonol [ first aid cream ] . I text the salon and told them and sent them a picture they told me to soak it warm salt water and put polysporin on it. I will give it another couple off days and go the doctor if no changes guess I am looking for a new nail salon read more

Came for a set of gel nails with shellac polish. I had a very specific design in mind and showed the technician a picture of what I was looking for, which he said he would be able to do no problem. It wasn't until my toes and base colour on my nails was already done that they told me they didn't have one of the colours I was looking for, obviously much too late to make any changes or choose anything else. On top of that the shape was very uneven, really thickly applied at the bottom with a dip in the middle and then thick again at the tip. They lasted about 2 weeks and then started to lift uncomfortably at the base. Won't come back to this place. read more

I went with my three daughters. One of them was getting a manicure and the tech insisted to do her nails sitting at the pedicure station. My daughter thus spent one hour bent over towards the tech. My other daughter's tech was wonderful to the point that this daughter wants to go back to the salon If she can have her again. My third daughter, who was supposed to get the same service as her sister, only go a pedicure without any massage. For myself, my tech was really rough on my feet. I felt like she did not like working there and took it out on me. At one point, I pulled my foot away because she was pulling the skin on the side of the big toe. It was quite uncomfortable. She pulled my foot back to her and ordered me to let her finish. When I got home, I realized that I was bleeding on a tiny spot under one toe. I had to wear a bandaid for a few days. She was very good at applying the polish. There was no lotion applied to my foot after it had been out of the sink. My skin was left quite dry. I would not recommend this salon unless you have established a good relationship with one of the techs and you return only to her. I will never return. read more

I had a local appointment so popped in to see if they could fit me in for a quick manicure and pedicure, based on their good Yelp reviews. They were personable, clean, quick and friendly and the prices were reasonable with a lot of colour options. The quality left something to be desired however. One fingernail polish began literally peeling off within 2 hours. 24 hours later, 2 toenails are doing the same. The polish was unevenly applied with marks on my cuticles, toes and fingers that I had to remove at home. They used OPI polish as requested (it's the only polish that doesn't chip on me) but the peeling makes me think they used a cheaper base coat. Fine for a quick touch up, but I won't become a regular. read more

I went there last night after work, Joseph did gel nails. He seemed to try and talk me into the acrylic but I wanted gel. It hurt when my hand was under the light, that isn't suppose to happen it felt like it was burning. Some of my nails were also shaped wrong they seems to be going off to one side. He also over charged me it was 67.00 including the tax. It was suppose to be 50 plus tax. That was my second time there the first time I just had a mani and they paint the coats too fast and the nails are gummy when you leave even after being under the dryer. I made an appointment to get a manicure and pedicure combo and As a pregnant, working mom I wanted to take some much needed relax time and I thought it was the perfect place to go. Ive heard good things about the place. This time however, I felt really rushed.I bought a magazine to read and didn't even get the chance to look at it. I was being tugged this way and that by the lady rushing through my nails and the man who did the pedicure was ok.... They just kept rushing and were not gentle at all. I actually felt anxiety about how they were treating me, and wanted to run out of there. I had 30 seconds to pick my polish and they were rushing me to the drying area before the other ladies were even finished their pedi's.. Who by the way were there before I even sat down. No, I did not get an express Mani pedi, it even included hot stones, although I didn't complain when they burnt my skin. All in all a bad experience, and I will not go back... They just wanted to move onto the next customer, I felt very disregarded. And my nails look like crap!!!!!!! So much for my one mani pedi a year! read more
