USUALLY GREAT. Most of the times I have gone here have been good experiences but less than a week ago I went and had gel X add on extensions on - not cheap. Literally broke in half next day. The thumb (see photo). I was in Los Angeles for a huge event - had to go out of my way to pay to have it fixed. My nails were being photographed so not fixing was not an option. I also had had some issues w the glue - felt like glued to my skin? It was a little uncomfortable. So after I got back to Canada I said I just wanted them off. So mind you these nails should have last weeks - but I had them taken off after 5 days. I went in today. Specially said to the girl (different technician) to NOT cut my natural nails underneath as I need them long. Anyway. She cut them all off. I am so annoyed. Look at the pic. I have no nails. I couldn't have been clearer about being careful not to change the length of my natural nails underneath. This will take weeks to grow back out. THEN when she was testing to see if the polish was dry she smooshed the polish. ‍ At checkout they offered 10% off. Which is $2 off. I almost said something bc i was so annoyed - I don't care about the price but my nails grow slowly. Anyway i just paid and left. With my short-ass nails and my polish smooshed. Very disappointed with this last go round. Again. They're normally great. Just not within the last week. read more

I was a walk-in and before I'd even sat down the girl whose nails were just about finished was unhappy with the colour because the tester wasn't an accurate representation and the nail technician had to be convinced to alter it, so I started out slightly hesitant. Then when it's my turn, she cuts me so that I'm bleeding and said it was my fault, and when it's time to put on the acrylics she told me it'll be $25 more than the price advertised on the website, sign, and the paper literally on the table between us, with the excuse of "it's solar" and pointing to the minuscule "prices subject to change" at the very bottom. It's just lucky she told me; I wonder how many people got trapped here with that excuse. Like, that's false advertising. Suffice to say, I walked out and won't be going back. read more

I did mention it did hurt when pushing my cuticles which is unusual as I get my nails done monthly the last 6 years. Studio 16 is a neighborhood treasure. The service/atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, the prices are extremely reasonable and the facilities are always immaculate. I've been going here to get both manicures and pedicures regularly now for over a year, and each time I walk out impressed by the great service and results. I usually get shellac on my hands. The shellac often lasts up to a month, and I've been happy with every color I've tried. There is ample selection of nice, modern shades to choose from. I also get regular (non-shellac) pedicures every couple of months here, and love the remote controlled massage chairs you sit in during the process. (And the two cute resident dogs who waddle about the place are a nice bonus!) *Note - If you are looking for a quick in-and-out solution and don't particularly care about the level of service, this might not be the best place for you. But if you are looking for a chill, comfortable local setting with great prices and people, then I highly recommend Studio 16. I get manicures quite a lot in Vancouver but today was the first time I've tried Studio 16. I happened to be in the area and had some time to kill so I called in for a walk-in appointment. Luckily, they were nice enough to accommodate me on a Saturday afternoon. I still had to wait 20-30 minutes but I totally understood because they were finishing off another customer's pedicure when I arrived. When the lady started working on my nails, I was surprised at how rough she was being. She was hacking away with her cuticle clipper like she was pulling out weeds and not the delicate skin that surrounds your nails. I actually started bleeding slightly on two of my fingers! She noticed me wincing so she sprayed some disinfectant on my hands to prevent the wounds from getting infected. This caused the wounds to sting badly for the rest of the manicure :/ The shellac polish application was fine but there was no real care given to it and she felt constantly distracted as there were other people starting to arrive for their appointments. I feel bad leaving such a poor review of the establishment as her and her daughter were quite nice but considering the large selection of nail salons in Vancouver, I would never return again. I generally think of manicures as relaxing experiences, but this was by far the least relaxing (and most painful) manicure I have ever gotten. read more

Sloppy job! I wasn't even asked what nail shape I wanted, when I mentioned that the sides were uneven the lady tried to convince me that nobody will look that close. I had to ask for a nail polisher and fixed it myself. My shellac came off in 4 days! French manicure from studio 16 looked odd and unfinished... I went in because I had heard great things about their nail extensions. I wanted something a little more natural looking and showed her pictures of some I liked. She wasn't very friendly and when I was choosing a color she seemed super frustrated and over it. They were very thick as well and I wanted to change them but she seemed bothered when I asked. I ended up going with a multicoloured French tip after she told me I was going to take too long to pick all the colors. She charged me $120 for the most average work and I was shocked at the extra $30 for just having a different line on the tip of my nail also: I wanted to know the difference between the different extensions and she didn't even want to explain it to me when we started lol read more

Honestly, one of the most efficient and detailed nail technicians in this city. The esthetician Bob is one of the few artists that continuously hone and master their craft. From marble designs to gem-like features, he experiments, explores, and is adventurous yet all within the comfort zone of the client. Besides nails, I have also gotten my eyelashes curled by him in which case I am loyal as he has been one of the very few that meticulously captures each eyelash while ensuring comfort. Conversation-wise, nothing feels contrived nor awkward about this spa. The staff's natural ability to connect with the guests has created a level of comfort that takes years to develop. All of the concerns you would have when receiving treatment from new estheticians would not be met here. Do yourself a favour and give this place a try. read more

Visiting Vancouver for a few days with my friend. On a rainy day after two weeks of camping we decided to go for mani/pedi. Stopped by studio 16 based on Yelp reviews. Our appointment was booked for 5 and we weren't started until about 5:15. Which is cool. Totally understand. The mani was deece. The conversation was friendly and fun. I never do anything crazy w my fingernails just a clean up and some nail envy. The pedicure was a little disappointing. I felt as though she could have spent more time and care on my heels and the balls of my feet and that the massage could have been a longer than the 30 seconds that it was done for. If I came again I would request the services that I was unhappy with before hand just to ensure that the lady did them to my liking. Received my first French pedicure. The lady did very well on the lines and I left fairly pleased with my experience. Would definitely come back UPDATE* After being away from the salon and having a chance to feel the condition of my feet, I'm going to give studio 16 three stars. Not happy at all. The bottom of my feet are still rough and dry. Not a fresh pedicure at all. Very disappointed. read more

I had to take off the shellac nails which I had it done from the place on my last review. I just did a walk in and Vicky was friendly and took me right away. My manicure took about an hour because she was doing her daughter's hair at the same time. I didn't really mind it as I was happy watching Victoria's Secret on TV. :) however She was apologetic about the long manicure time and voluntarily gave me a discount on my nails! I just got the regular polish. I'm happy that after almost ten days( Saturday to Tuesday) my polished nails are still good. Maybe I will give her shellac nails a try. I would definitely go back to Vicky's. She is very experienced and knows how to treat her customers. The price is super reasonable!!! read more

Fantastic little salon! Price - very, very reasonable. Salon - clean, cute and filled with Audrey Hepburn chic. Small and intimate. Owner - is very sweet. English is not her first language, however she is very welcoming and easy going dialogue. Not forced. As mentioned, the price is amazing! And a big factor for ranking it 5 stars. It is small and only the owner is doing the cutting, so best to call and book a time (I showed up 30 min early). Usually a good price means you have to compromise, but not here. You still end up with a great cut. And communication is key. Let her know your thoughts up front. I wanted my hair around 2-3 inches shorter, but we chatted about how it would look and kept it a little bit longer - which was good advice. For those of you who want to go to a salon, where they serve you champagne and chocolates and provide hand massages - go take you $85 haircuts with you to Yaletown. This is not snooty, or pretentious. It is a great little gem of a salon that I will keep coming back to. Plus, they have 3 spots for pedicures and the seats look great. read more

I've been here several times over the past few years. As I'm not that great at making appointments they have often accommodated me as a drop in Ana if that wasn't possible we set a suitable time. My pedicures are always good and if they get bumped before fully drying they always fix it no problem. If i ad for something a little different they oblige if they can. While they are sometimes a little distracted because it's busy they've always been kind to me. Three process are reasonable, the salon is super clean and they have dogs. Vicky is an amazing woman. She is so powerful and personable, and really works hard. However my experience today was unfortunately not the best. I have been at Studio 16 once before for a manicure and bikini wax. Vicky did a phenomenal job for both of these things during my first visit a few months back. However today was not okay. Yesterday (Friday), I had called to book an appointment for a pedicure and bikini wax at 4 pm on Saturday (today). I arrived exactly at 4 pm, and Vicky looked a bit confused when she saw me. She had 3 people including herself, tending to other customers. They were busy of course, but she had me wait in the wax room for about 15-20 minutes before tending to me. She said she thought one of her girls told her I was coming at 3:30, to which I said, "No, I scheduled 4 pm." We laughed it off and all was good. She did my wax and all was ok. She said for me to wait for another 15 minutes so they could get the water ready for my pedicure. I understood she was busy so I of course said no problem. I eventually went to sit down 15 minutes later where the warm water for my feet was waiting for me at the chair. The woman next to me was asking Vicky's daughter how much longer it would be. The woman said to her "If I had known it would be half an hour for her to start my pedicure, I would have left and come back", to which her daughter replied, "Yeah, sorry about that." Yikes. :-/ Eventually her daughter got to her. At this point, I've been waiting for about 35 minutes. One thing I don't like about this place is that they don't offer you tea/coffee/water. I was super thirsty, and it was a pretty nice day out and would have loved a nice cold glass of water, at least. Eventually after roughly waiting 35-40 minutes, I got up after waiting for my feet to dry from the lukewarm water, put on my socks and shoes and told Vicky it was taking too long and that I had to go. She was super apologetic, and said "Ok, maybe next time..." and just charged me for the wax. I want to most definitely come next time, because my first visit was great, but this was pretty atrocious for a salon, especially considering I called a day in advance and still had to wait this long... :/ read more

One of the worst experiences I've had. I went to get a manicure, and I am not sure what was happening with the woman but she was extremely rough with my hands, pushing them back rather than just asking me to put them in and out of the light for the gel manicure. Also it seemed like they had no idea what nail polishes they have in stock. Worst of all she trimmed my cuticles so roughly that one of them is infected. Love this place! I was under an incredible amount of stress a while ago, and decided I needed some pampering before I could push on with my work. I called in early on a Tuesday afternoon and they told me I didn't need to make an appointment. I showed up about 30 minutes later and was seated right away. Everyone in the salon was super friendly. I believe it was Vicky, her daughter, and another employee. There were also two friendly dogs cuddling on the chair next to me. The place was clean, neat, and welcoming. I got a shellac pedicure, and Vicky did the majority of the grunt work. My heels were a disaster, super cracked, and Vicky truly did her best. She was honest and said she was afraid to buff too much more this session, and that the cracks were so deep they would take time to buff away gradually. I agree with her, especially since I've had some painful over shaving experiences before. Even so, my heels were much, much better, smooth, with barely visible cracks. Vicky's daughter did the polish portion, and did a great job. It's been over 20 days, and I've only had to trim the nails as they grew. The polish itself is still there, unchipped, no bubbling, clean edges, pretty much perfect. Vicky and her daughter (who is hilarious) both conversed with me and by themselves during the pedicure. I know some people don't like aestheticians talking to each other while they work but I had no problem with it. They were not rude or obnoxious, and it gave me time to do some of the work I had taken with me. All in all, great experience, and reasonable prices, especially considering how long the polish has lasted. I'll definitely be back the next time I want to treat myself. read more

I have never had a full set done but Vicky hooked me up! She did a great job that I am very happy with. Vicky was helpful in the deciding process and a very friendly chatty lady (and like another reviewer said - it wasn't awkward which I was afraid of) I've worked in the setting where appointments never line up - someone is usually late or a walk-in decides that their nails are everyone's number one priority. So I understand when a stylist or technician has to juggle or make things work. I honestly am not picky so I didn't mind it - It's a Sunday and I'm getting my nails done... I am in no rush and as long as they're nice and I'm comfy, It's no big deal. This is a small family run place - don't come expecting and un-flexible. read more

Studio 16 does fantastic pedicures! The salon is on the small side but it's super clean, very well appointed (beautiful chandelier, damask white on the walls - elegant and fresh!). Plus the staff are so friendly and wonderfully attentive. Seriously, never been to any nail salon that was that welcoming. For $28 a pedi, it's just as competitive in pricing as other cheapy nail bars, but you get a real spa treatment! Definitely recommend this gem! read more

I have had many nail salon experiences and this is by FAR the best. - The owner is genuinely nice - Even though her first language is not english she keeps up a nice conversation that is not awkward - She knows what she's doing! - Her prices are very competitive and great for what she does. Now onto the hair services. I have gotten my clip in extension in by her and have had them curled aswell. She not only put them in nicely, without letting them show or making it uncomfortable for me to have in for a long period, she put them in all the right places and made my hair much fuller. I don't usually write reviews or get acrylic nails done, but I did for my graduation. I had been here before (for acrylics) and had no issues. I had an appointment for 4:00 and rushed to get there on time. I waited for about 20 minutes for the nail person ( I think it's mother and daughter?) and then the mother came to help me. I asked for a rounded square shape and she started working on it. I noticed it was taking a bit long but I was like, okay, it's fine. She put on the gooey stuff on top of the extensions after about 45 minutes. I have bad anxiety and the time it was taking stressed me out! When I had called they said it would take around an hour, so I had made plans for after. Then she started to shape my nails with the grinder and to me I felt like it was taking longer then usual, however I'm socially anxious so tried to not be bothered by how long it was taking. She ended up shaping my nails for a full hour, I had asked for her to make them rounder so I got why it was taking a while. She was really nice talking to me about school and stuff, so I have no complaints about rudeness or anything. She finally finished shaving them down and this is at about 6, 2 hours after when I arrived. Meanwhile a lady who had arrived at the same time as me and got a gel mani pedi had left about a half an hour earlier ( I would think she would have taken longer than me). Finally I asked how long it would be and she said we would be done at 6:30. She ended up being finished at 6:45! I had to cancel my plans. I have never been at a place that took this long. My nails looked bit weird, not the shape I asked for ( they looked rectangular and were very thick!). I left very stressed out and disappointed. My nails looked misshapen ( I actually had a few people comment on how they looked...) and I ended up filling them myself in a shape I liked. Basically 2 hours and 45 minutes is WAY too long for acrylic nails and If I am going to spend 60$ ( I am a student so I splurged to get my nails done) the nails need to actually look like I want. I hate leaving bad reviews ( never written one before) I used to work in customer service so I know it's hard!, as before when the daughter did my nails, they were great but this visit was not . No one was mean just the TIME and THE QUALITY!! I will not be coming here again, and I don't think I will recommend this to anyone. read more

If I could give then -10 I would. Worst experience ever!! Everything was bad: The chairs were uncomfortable and the massage chairs only worked on one setting. The prices were different from those on their website. The older lady was really rough on my cuticles and with the filing. Gel polish was old and too thick so she did 3-4 coats which took forever to dry but still looked uneven. The UV light kept burning my hands. When I told them about it they said it was normal. I've had them done at other salons and never been burned like this. Paid for nail art and not only did she not do what I wanted but the patterns were different so my big toes didn't match. Daughter was obnoxious and rude. When the mother hurt me and I noted that on yelp people had complained she was too rough. The daughter told me i should leave but only half the acrylic nails were done. I pointed that out to her and she just sniffed and repressed herself. The whole package cost me $90. I didn't give them a tip and so they were mad about that. Tips must be earned. NEVER NEVER NEVER GO HERE! read more

Based on the reviews, I really wanted to be happy here. I booked an appointment for a mani/pedi. When I showed up, they got me all set up and let me pick my colours. I had a crack in one of my nails but, didn't want to cut it so, the nail tech very nicely glued it for me and put the shellac polish over top. Had things continued in that direction, I would be giving 5 stars. Unfortunately, things began to unravel. The woman doing my pedicure kept leaving to help other clients and then when she would come back, she was distracted and gossiped to me about the clients! It felt very unprofessional. She was so distracted with gossip and worrying about helping drop ins, that she scrubbed the tops of my toes so hard that I have a cut and they feel raw. I didn't really think that the tops of the toes required scrubbing! I'm also pretty sure that she skipped a base coat on my toes and only did one coat of polish before the top coat. She was in a hurry to finish with me so that she could move on to all the drop in appointments that she kept taking, despite the fact that they seemed under staffed. I also felt that the woman doing my manicure was a little too aggressive when cleaning up my cuticles. She nicked my pinky finger but, put something on it to heal it and it seems to be ok. Overall, I cannot recommend this place. My only regret is in my overwhelming need to play nice, I left giving the impression that I was happy and didn't mind waiting while she took care of other clients. However, I am disappointed and will not be back. read more

Liars, liars liars. How dare you. Your side of the story is a garbage lie. I tried for 3-4 days to get to you. Your store hours are wrong. Sorry I have work, and a life to live rather than spending everyday coming back to your studio to get the nails that should have been done correctly the first time, fixed THREE TIMES. There was only ONCE I went in and there was only one of you working. The day I came to get my refund you had 4 people in the studio. Two people working on pedicures and you and your daughter working on nails. You could have given me a proper refund but you didn't. You gave me $20 which doesn't include the taxes, and you charged me for the removal of your terrible peeling shellac. My bill (which I would screenshot for you if I could. You clearly are unaware of what you charge people but ) (clearly wanted to tip yourselves just because.) was first time $30 straight up, second time I was charged $32, (not including taxes dear) so it came out to $33 something. Unprofessional, ridiculous, liars. It wasn't a week, it was 4 days max. But also, AGAIN. They should have been done correctly in the first place, so I wouldn't have had to come back 3 times for fixes, and a fourth and fifth for a refund. It didn't work out because you have garbage service, and don't know what you are doing. You kept telling me you were doing me a favour. Which is wrong so so wrong.
