Had a lovely time yesterday! My friend was the one who arranged the appointment. I didn't ask for the specifics, but it seemed like she either was texting or messaging someone directly, and was able to get us an appointment around the time when they were opening. We walked in at exactly our appointed time, and they had our seats waiting for us. They only had four employees at the time, and two of them were already assisting other customers, so my friend and I hopped into our seats to be assisted next,, while the hubby enjoyed the massage chair while he waited. This ended up being three manis and pedis, plus gels for all nails for the girls, and took around 1.75 hours because my friend was able to get some very cute hearts on top of the gels. Very, very thorough. They were able to clip my toe nails short and round, and did general maintenance on all nails/cuticles. The massages were great, too. Something that I really liked was that they try their best to not have the gel hit your skin; it's literally just a hair away from the skin at all directions. And the products they use were very good, as I haven't had any sort of skin reaction that I've had at other salons. The staff was hands-down amazing. They asked what we wanted, and they delivered every time. My friends' nails came out super-cute, and I'm very happy with mine. And the hubby's mani/pedi were possibly a little bit of a challenge (he has weird nails), but they got through it as much as they could. Would happily come back!! read more

Since my last visit I have returned more than 5 times for manicures and pedicures. While I haven't been sticking to anyone in particular it seems the salon is in working order again. Honestly everyone there is incredibly friendly and good at their jobs. I do not see the lady that massacred my pedicure last winter, working there anymore. They do nails well! I got gel nails and it's been 3 weeks, and still holding good. My visit did start on a fairly unpleasant note but the staff was quick to make it up to me. I had a 4 PM appointment and yet when I showed up, I had to wait for appx. 25 mins - not sure if it always the case or they were simply understaffed that day. I was obviously put off by the time they started service for me because I have a year old baby and anyone with a baby knows how much schedules matter. Anyway, I did mention this and they made sure I got out of there asap. They did my hands and feet at the same time and very kind and gentle all through. I still wish they would call and inform if they are running late in the future but I will go back again since they did realize they are in the wrong and tried their best to fix it, so they deserve a second chance and hey - my nails still rock! read more

We had an appointment but wanted to go a day earlier. They accommodated us no problem. We were a little late to our appointment (I know, we're the worst ‍), but they were still so kind and professional. The woman who did my nails was so quick and efficient! She even made one of the nails matte to see if I liked it since I couldn't decide. She gave me exactly what I wanted! Also, the next day I broke the pointer finger one on accident. Again, last minute, we had to ask if we could come in to fix it. I got the same lady who fixed it in less than 10 minutes and it was no charge!! It was my last night in Canada so I was absolutely grateful to go out with a full set!! This is my go to place for pedicure now after searching for a good nail salon in new west on yelp. I have been here several times and never request for a specific nail technician. So far they are all good. The place is big and bright with seven seats for pedicure. The chairs can be reclined with the massage function and a foot bath. To keep it clean, it is covered with a plastic cover. It is not the most sanitized since the nail equipment is not individually wrapped and sanitized with those approved solutions like in a podiatrist or doctor clinic. It is sanitized the old way with the UV or heat machine. But so far I find it has been ok, plus it is probably the same in many other nail salons. read more

Let's start this with Iv never had a shellac manicure but Iv been told by multiple people that it's supposed to last two weeks. Mine didn't even last a week :( and I was super careful I didn't do dishes I didn't do anything that would ruin them intentionally. They just started to peel off. It sucks so much because my nails looked beautiful and the staff even stayed late to finish my nails because the appointment before mine ran late. The lovely lady that did my nails was very personable and funny. If my nails lasted I would have gone back. It just sucks to pay for a shellac manicure and have it chip and peel as much as if I did them myself. Do not recommend this place. read more

The "Gentle"man who did my nails was quite frankly rude and disrespectful. he asked me to wash my hand without soap, so i went to do so and he aggressively asked me again if i understood that i was not to use soap, in a tone that clearly implied that he thought i was stupid. Which was ironic because when i asked for an almond shape he gave me a squared shape... then my friend grabbed my hand that was not being reshaped at the moment to look at the shape and, this STRANGER, aggressively ripped MY OWN HAND, out of my friends grasp. I've been to April Nails quite a few times. The last time I was there, I was a bit disappointed that my basic acrylic nails were $70+ dollars. They also started coming off in less than 2 weeks. I reached out afterwards and apparently the shiny white colour cost extra which I wasn't aware of at the time. I went here for the first time yesterday after being recommended to by a friend that regularly goes here. To say the least, I was not impressed or satisfied with how my nails turned out. During the time that I was getting my nails done, I would point out things that I didn't like (for example, the acrylic was too far from the cuticle and made it look like my nails have already grown out), but she would just ignore me or say she'll fix it but doesn't. I was late for work so I couldn't explain in detail what I wasn't happy about, but I did mention that I would be back tomorrow to get my nails fixed. I came back today as I said I would and they were kind enough to try and fix the set. I was really clear on what I didn't like, such as the nails being way too thick and far from the base of my nail/cuticle. Again, she ignored me when I would say something about it. And once again, I was not happy with the set and even more upset about it the second time around as she seemed like she just wanted to get it over with and as a result, my set looked worse than it did before. The part that had me most upset was the fact that they assumed I didn't understand their language and were talking about me in Vietnamese. (I understand and speak it fluently by the way). I would have given them a higher rating based on their service alone, as they seemed super kind and friendly to my face, but they were talking about me in a different language assuming that I couldn't understand them. read more

I've been coming here for a couple years now for my monthly Brazilian wax, pedicures and manicures for gel nails. They really do give the best Brazilian waxes! They're fast and efficient which is exactly what you want. They're always able to do any design I bring from Instagram and online. I had a wonderful mani/pedi at this sweet lil' nail salon. It's just down the street from New West Skytrain station and I had no problem getting an appointment for the same day I called. And while I was there, they seemed to get a lot of walk-ins, too. It was tres cheap ($30 for pedi, $20 for mani) and in no way did I feel rushed. In fact, counting the drying period - "OK, sit, relax," the nail tech insisted - I was there for well over an hour and half. I sat in the craziest massage chair ever throughout the whole thing, which included foot and hand massages, a skin softening treatment on my hands, nail and cuticle trimming, and of course, polish. Despite my best efforts, I did muss the polish job on the way home, but for the most part, the colour is still going strong a full week later. Speaking of colour, I love the colour on my toes - OPI number 78! I remember this because while I was drying, another lady came in, saw my colour, and insisted on having it as well. How cool was that? What I liked best about April Nail Spa was the friendly neighbourhood feel, from the sweet nail techs to people in the next chair you could strike up a conversation with. I don't know, but maybe the sunny yellow walls have something to do with it - or maybe it's that they don't have those goofy pictures on the wall like Pure Nail Bar. I was in desperate need to remove some old shellac and get some replacement color. On the way home from the skytrain I googled what was near by the New West station and decided to give this place a try. They were able to fit me in without an appointment on a Sunday afternoon even though they had a few customers already. My manicurist was Hye Jin. She did a great job removing the old shellac (which always seems like such a trial), and shaping and cleaning my nails. She trimmed my cuticles without gouging my skin, which is always appreciated. She applied the polish beautifully, very evenly, no dripping or thick spots. I'm very happy with the end result and the price was very reasonable. read more

As I am want to do on summer days, I decided I needed a spontaneous, emergency pedicure over lunch while at work today. I went to my Trusty Yelp and found this was one of few pedicure places near me, and although the reviews are not stellar "There were streaks, the coats were uneven, there wasn't a proper topcoat,..." etc. I rolled the dice, rolled up my pants, and walked on over. First, I love those massage chairs! I've had a few pedi's in establishments without them and I always feel robbed. I got a bottom coat, 2 colour coats, and a "proper" topcoat as well as a sea-salt exfoliator and a nice foot massage. The lower leg massage was a bit weak, bit I'm sure I could have asked for more pressure, so, My Bad. All this for $30 on a moment's notice, and my toes look fab! I'll see how long it lasts, but I'm a fan already! read more

Tried this salon for the first time a few days ago. Wasn't super impressed but the workers were kind enough...unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros. Pros: Kind and helpful beauty technicians Nice job done on nails and massage was well done too. Cons: - No fan or ventilation inside the salon. Walking in, I was hit with SUCH a strong smell of shellac. I immediately texted my sister and told her I was dying because it was so strong. They kept the door open but it didn't do much. If you're a sensitive person like me, I would avoid this place... - The man at the front desk wasn't very welcoming and seemed confused when I walked in and told him I had an appointment. He pointed to the wall where the nail polish was and told me to pick a colour and then disappeared to the back. I was left just standing there afterwards, not sure where to go or whether to sit and wait. Felt a little foolish standing around the front. - They have a TV set up in the salon and I was positioned right in front of it. They had the news on which was terrible because I came to the salon to relax and not think about stuff going on... It was uncomfortable getting my nails done while being bombarded by terrible stories in the news. - I asked for a specific black flower design on my nails, the woman doing my nails made a white design instead that didn't look anything like the one I picked out. However, while it's mildly annoying to me, it's not that big of a deal so I'm okay with it. However I know there are some people who are very particular about their designs, if you're one of those people, be aware of this. - I made an appointment for a thirty minute pedicure/foot massage and a twenty minute manicure. They were both being done at the same time but somehow I was kept there for an hour and a half. Probably won't go back to this place. read more

I just moved to New West and had to find a local nail salon. I found April Nail Spa via IG and looked at the work and comments, so I decided to give them a try. I booked my first appointment with Mary, a full set of gel nails. It couldn't have gone better. Mary is a doll, she listened to what I wanted and made it happen. She did excellent work and they looked great. I've already been for a fill and it went great. My gel nails aren't thick, even with gel polish on top. She filed and shaped them beautifully and always checks to make sure I'm happy with my nails before I leave. I've already booked my next appointment. read more

I would give this place 2.5 stars but the system in Yelp doesnt work that way. The staff works quickly and my pedicure was average. I suspect that they don't clean the foot baths like they are supposed to. When I was there I watched other ladies getting their nails done and everyone seemed happy with the results. Everyone, that is, until one lady came in unhappy that her shellac polish had peeled off in 3 days. They sat her down and redid the polish and she seemed happy enough when she left. I can truely say that if your in a hurry they will do their best to get you in, but I have had better results at other salons in the past. One thing the staff should work on is the chatter in Viet. I don't get my nails done regularly so I didn't know what would look good. Mandy and Tina were patient and helpful when I wasn't sure about which color or type or nail art to get. OK, so I went here for my first bikini wax ever. I almost died. I am not sure if it's suppose to hurt that bad but getting my tattoos and nose pierced hurt less than getting a bikini wax. The lady was nice though and very informative. Although I did feel like she thought I wasn't taking good enough care of my skin lol. I also got my eyebrows waxed here and she did a good job but again, I felt like it was my fault I have sensitive skin that turns tomatoe red when waxed lol.
